Vega Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

Can you give me some tips about performing Vega’s motions for Rolling Crystal, Scarlet Terror, and Bloody High Claw for a square gate (TE fightstick).

I just got a stick myself, and the RCF and ST were indeed the hardest moves to execute properly at first (SHC and FBA kept coming out instead). Keep practicing every day, and sleep on it if you’ve practiced a lot for the day and are only making slow progress.

For me, changing the way I thought about the movements helped:
For RCF and ST, I charge downback, and try to hit just above the down-forward corner. its better to hit a little too low than too high because it still seems to work
For the BHC ultra, I charge downback and go strait to the corners: downforward, downback, and upback/upforward depending on what wall you want to ultra off of

Okay thanks, I’ll try those out.

I use the same motion for BHC as well, however, it comes out as an EX barcelona sometimes. I guess my KKK input is off or something.

When should i press KKK for BHC? Should I do it when I am at the corner of the last motion (up right or up left), or should I make the stick neutral, then press it?

Just started using stick myself, and while i can do all the moves and combos just fine i mess up dashes to no end and have an overall slow execution.

Well, if an EX FBA is coming out, you probably ARE pushing KKK at the right time (at the same time the stick reaches the final corner). It’s the movement you most likely have to get down. Remember to charge downback for at least two full seconds (its easy to not charge enough if you quickly try it over and over). Try to make the input quick and precise, but there’s no need do do it super duper fast for now.

Personally it took me pretty damn long to get down. Another way to think about it (in terms of circular motion) is to charge downback, do a quarter-circle to downforward, and then loop backwards all the way until you hit close to strait up and hit KKK.

Well, I just to the standard Down-back charge, then i go to the down-forward corner, down-back corner, top-back (or top-forward) corner.

I move my stick all the way to the corner of the square gate.

Quick question. I was playing at an arcade in Yokohama and noticed that my opponent, Akuma, was destroying me in the corner.

When he knocked me down, he would fly at me and grab me. If I jumped, I got SRKed. If I stood there, I got grabbed. I died before I could try to dash, but I’m sure I would get SRK’ed as well.

I’m pretty sure he was option selecting his command grab with a shoryuken.

Any advice for this? Am I missing something here…

Would a triangle jump have worked? Or does Akuma have too good of a hitbox on his SRK?

Akuma has some nasty nasty strings and pressure games vs Vega. Chritorisu, I know exactly what you are talking about, but I dont know the best counter.
Patience, good timing, good execution, and specific knowledge of the properties of Akuma’s moves are all needed at once. If you play online and run into a similar Akuma, I suggest asking that Akuma to fight you more in player match so you can get more practice. You could even learn to play a little Akuma yourself in order to get a better feel for how it works. Also, you could friend the guy and look up his latest replay. Maybe the last person he fought will show you where a weak point is in Akuma’s attack!

Fast triangle jump out of the corner? Either that, KKK back flip and hope he continues the option select without paying attention () or eat a portion of the shoryu by jumping and mess up his mix-up timing so you can try to escape during the next assault. I’ve never experienced that specific mix-up, but I have an idea of what’s going on within it…

:wonder:

Here’s a question for the top vegas:

When you spend time in training, what specifically do you practice? (and I mean be very specific)

view and meteo - Thanks a lot. I didn’t even think about “triangle jumping” out of the corner. Those words remind me of marvel… hahaha

I don’t have the system… I am in Japan right now so there are arcades left and right (I happen to be a few minutes from Shibuya where Kikanbou MAX plays)

When I did jump, I did eat a portion, but he continued the little mix up. It was really embarrassing because I was actually winning up until that point.

I’ll try all that out…thanks guys.

edit: I am gonna try to jump forward and see if that works too

I doubt that I qualify as a “top” Vega, but I practice:

  1. General BnB execution (cr. :lp: links into round-house/cr. :mp:/ EX FBA/ :lp: RCF)
  2. Punishment option execution (mainly cl. :hp: -> cr. :lp:/cr. :mp: xx EX FBA and CH -> :hk: ST)
  3. Wake-up strategies (e.g. pressure set-ups after a successful ST/slide/throw)
  4. Mix-up scenarios (e.g. practicing tick throw/crouching :lp: mix-up options, options off of a blocked RCF/hit RCF, options off of a CH from different effective distances)
  5. Character-specific moves/options that I want to study/have problems with.

That’s about it for my training regime. Sometimes, I just look for attack/defend options that I’ve never thought of for use in a match, like ways to effectively set-up for claw toss opportunities, more effective pressure strings and whatever else crosses my mind.

I was wondering what are some good option selects for Vega? not sure if he has any good ones, but any little bit would help.

Jammo, He can option select sweep to punish back dashes.

THREE THINGS:

  1. Sasaki and Joz, I’m still waiting for some specifics of what you guys do while in training mode. (What links, combos, etc.?)

  2. What should our preferred method of punishment be when we block Guile’s sweep?

  3. How to initiate offense on Honda?

  1. FA on reaction.
I’ll leave the other two for somebody else to answer.
    <_<
  1. Idk what these 2 do but this is stuff u can / should practice :

blockstrings :

c.lp > c.lp > c.mp xx lp Roll [ can be extended by FA Lvl 2 backdash > df hk ]

s.lk > s.lk > c.lp > c.mp [ can be extended ex Shc from opposite wall or Lp Roll ]

s.lk > s.lk > df Hk

s.lk > s.lk > s. Hk

Combos :

df Hk > Hk Scarlet

df Hk > c.mp xx EX shc from other wall [ not an actual combo but its good for mix up ]

j. Hp > close Hp ( 1 hit ) xx Hp Roll [ Fadc c.lp > c.lp > c.mp xx EX fba for extra unneeded flashiness ]

j. Hp > close Hp > c.mp xx EX fba

c. mk > c. lp xx EX fba [ u can use c.mp instead of c.lp on some characters but on others the ex fba will whiff if u use c.mp ]

j. Hk > c.lp > c.lk xx Hk Scarlet [ xx to super near corner for extra unneeded flashiness ]

c. lp > c.lk xx Lk Scarlet > EX scarlet

Other stuff to practice :

Izuna Vortex and its setups [ eg : FA to airthrow ]

c.lp or s.lk > kara throw

FA lvl 2 backdash Ultra

  1. c.mp xx EX fba between the two kicks , or FA the 2nd kick and punish with whatever

  2. basically Bait and Punish him , mix up your game a lot and play smart
Honda does massive damage so any mistake is really costly .
dont try to walldive on him coz EX Sumo arse and neutral J. Hp will stuff it
Safe jump him to bait Sumo Arse and punish accordingly
outpoke him with c.mp , s.mk . s. hk , s. Hp etc and force him to either jump into your Scarlet / airthrow / neutral j. Hk , or do a panic special and punish him

thats my 2 cents about the match up , keep in mind that i havent fought any extraordinary Honda for a while

when I’m in training I don’t really have any sort of regimen i just practice whatever i feel i should be doing

normally links but every once in a while i’ll come across some sort of new shenanigan and i’ll start practicing. then i usually spend some time practicing ultra dashes, focus combos, mixing up after scarlet terrors, FBA target practice… pretty much it

practicing the links is the most part of it, at other times i put cpu on random block and practice capitalizing on jump ins

some times i just sort of “Beat down” the cpu just using everything in vega’s arsenal so i can practice everything

So here’s a question for you Vega pros: I’ve noticed on videos Vega has the ability to wall dive and do two hits with his claw when he’s above the opponent. Is this simply a property of the ex version and is it activated simply by hitting punch above the opponent?
