Vega Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

One of FLAs best Giefs and he keep saying Claw vs Gief is one of his worst match ups. When ever i play him though I see different :frowning:

5-5 or maby 6-4 gief if you ask me. it’s all a matter of who gets life lead first. if gief gets life lead it’s pretty much over. if claw gets life lead it’s pretty much over but it’s easier for gief to come back than for vega.

Exactly how I feel, he’s a better player than me plus I HATE defensive turtling, it’s very hard for me to get the life lead and sit on it.

i usually start it out with an lp version RCF just to get the chip life lead and then run away forcing a mistake. 99% of giefs fall for it. 1% dont. the 1% that dont… i have no idea how to beat. (Vangief is one of the 1%)

i do however make excellent use of cancelling a blocked cMP, or cMK into FBA a good run away tool. no ex meter needed just to run away.

Also S.MK is one of your best pokes to use in the Gief matchup to keep him out

loses to sMP from gief tho

Been awhile since I actually really played SF4. What are Vega safejumps?

Great Guideand tidy! With an extra safe jump category.

Edit: I see there are safe jumps but no definition. In short: safe jumps are jump-ins that either hit your opponent or leave you blocking any reversal they may be throwing out.
An almost foolproof one is after a back-throw to jump immediately forward and do a late MP while holding down-back.
In the ā€œAE Changesā€ thread there is a set up for an SRK-proof safejump after a Izuna Drop but this one is more difficult.

the one I like to use is cl.mp > cr.lp , cr.mp xx EX FBA.

cl.mp beats throw attempts on wakeup so you can see why it would be good to use.

Ah so that helped me a bit. I was trying to safe jump Cammy’s DP with a late Fierce after kara throw and I was still getting DP’d. I figured I was doing something wrong.

I’m burning to know:

How does Vega rank in SSFIV:AE? Is he still low end 3rd/4th tier?

I haven’t played since original SFIV and he was possibly the worst character in the game at that time…

Hes definantly better than Vanilla SFIV. Some argue that hes just as good if not better in AE than in SSFIV. I’m witholding judgment for now.

Yea does AE Vega have a advantage over AE Sagat?

uh…no, but Sagat’s TU got it’s teeth back

I never thought Vega did well against Sagat, but then again I can never do the izuna vortex on anyone :frowning:

Did yall see the Makoto fight against that Sagat at shadowloo he’s the #1 sagat in the arcades in Japan right now the point is in that vid one of the commentators Massive weapons who mains Sagat and was beat by Makoto in the same tourney said Vega have an advantage over sagat so basically he said Sagat vs Vega is in Vega favor.

Do you agree, or do you just think that Makoto just so good it seems that way?

I don’t agree. I wanted other Vega opinions on that match-up.

When I see who my opponent picks I mentaly go through a list of things I need to be careful of and things I can exploit. However there are a few match ups, Sagat for example, where the first thing that goes through my mind is ā€œshit, I cant make any mistakesā€.

It’s not the matchup that scares me the most, and I think its winable, but its not great because of his damage output

I dunno how I can be helped with my problem, but at least I can say I’ve asked lol.

Teching…Jesus it’s such a damn wind up. I’m so crap with judging when somebody is gonna throw me. If I knew the majority of the time when somebody is gonna grapple me I’d win many more games to. No matter how many times I’ve seen the generic jump in HK/HP in to grapple, or a few shorts after the jump in HK/HP in to grapple I still get fooled. I don’t react in time

So when I play my Vega, my main objective is to make sure I stay on my feet under all costs >_>
