Vega Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

Ah this is something I’ve actually only tried a few times believe it or not, because when I did try that I caught got so I didn’t make a habit of it in future games. But I’ll certainly keep this in mind from now on and use that tactic if I feel its safe to, thanks :slight_smile:

Haha how typical, this made me laugh. I knew when I typed out my post asking for help the solution would most likely be a simple one lol, like learning how to block properly. I think my main problem though is, its knowing when people are gonna throw. Most the time I honestly cant figure out when its gonna happen. I know this sounds bad but theres been occasions where I’ve been thrown 3/4 times in the space of 10seconds. Because if I’m thrown the once I tell myself “Ah well its not gonna happen again straight away” but then it does.

When I’m in a corner, alot of people just do random stuff then throw. But I will be more patient from now on and block more, and while I’m at it try to be more observant when it comes to being thrown in the middle of mix ups. Thanks man :slight_smile:

Thanks for the info dude :slight_smile: I’ll definitely remember this, or at least try to lol. It’s difficult at first remembering advice people give you when its fresh in the middle of a match. But thats helped alot, at least I’m more wiser :slight_smile:

THIS!!!

Just going to ask something outside the game play…

What button layout do you all choose? I am borrowing a fight stick and pretty much set to practice with it so I can get used to playing with stick (Been using a 360 controller for six months, lol). The default button layouts all feel weird…=\ I can’t find the right one…I tried a bunch of combinations but I feel as they limit me somehow.

What layout is most common for Vega? I hope this is not a silly question…This is the first time I have ever touched a fight stick in my life outside of Arcades. >.>

i use config A on my 6 button pad and custom when i used a ds3… i dont play stick
on my DS3 i used:
square = MP
triangle = HP
circle = HK
X = MK
R1 = LP
R2 = PPP
L1 = LK
L2 = KKK

I’ve recently picked up vega and im having trouble with the cr.mk - cr.mp xxEX FBA. I can hit the mk and mp link consistently but its the EX FBA that either doesnt come out or it comes out late. Any advice on how to do this besides practice

cancel the cMP into the EX FBA it’s almost at a plinking speed that you do the cMPxxEX FBA… just make sure that you either
-hold the MP button down until after you see him glowing
-release the button extremely quickly

otherwise he’ll end up cancelling into MP version SHC

i tried to do this in training mode for an 1 hour …now i do it like nothing after i followed your advice!! sir you are a genius

lol i’m smart but iono about genius. glad i was able to help.

LOL

does vega have any good counter hit combos?

What is a good normal to use during neutral jump and jumping? There’s many times I read something like a dash punch from yun and I neutral jump and whiff a normal that would have lead to close HK, crMK xx ex FBA.

nj.MK has excellent range and its his best nj normal alongside nj.HK
j.HK and HP are your forward jump normals (j.LK is also good against a few characters), j.MP and j.MK are for jumping back and countering stuff like dives and jumpy online fags.

@Killah:
not that i know of, in super you could do c.MK>c.MK on CH, and c.MK>U2, in AE however c.MK>c.MK combos without CH and U2 is too slow now for the combo to work.

Thanks. I’ll get that drilled in my head.

I’ve had good success air throwing the twins out of dive kicks. Though I have to adjust for jump differences between Fuerte and Vega.

If you’re talking counterhit, something that may be useful is CH. Far st. LK>Cr.MK>Cr.MPxxEX.FBA. Which previously wasn’t possible to my knowledge.

Vega’s normal combo links are pretty tricky enough, counterhits will make them easier to connect so still attempt to get hit-confirm combos in the normal way. Probably the most important link that will connect only as a meaty or a counterhit is cr.LK into cr.LP, so in certain situations you should try following a cr.LK crouch tech with cr.LP cr.MP because theres a chance you might get a full combo off of a counterhit during your crouch tech.

cMK, cMK, cMP is the best one imo

sorry if this has been asked before but how do you guys play with vega when you have no meter? when ever i see that i have no meter to play with i tend to panic

I’m no pro, so I play the same way with or without meter lol. I use meter as part of my combo’s or to punish people with ex FBA when they whiff moves, do stupid things or decide to walk towards me too casually.

I build meter all the time, even if I have a bar or not. lk.st at the end of the screen where your safe. Or walk backwards and do a lp.rcf (make sure its a meaty attack, catches loads of people because they decide to react to it thinking its slow; the roll is, the claw isn’t). And finally, hug the wall and empty wall dive (character specific; some can punish you full screen). Those help build meter.

Some other risky things you could do is, during a block string, put in a lk.st then throw.
example lp, lp, mp, lk.st or mk.st (goes over any whiffed punches/kicks), land and throw. Very risky though, if they don’t try and counter poke, prepare to get punished. Just realised this has nothing to do with no meter play, nor is it particularly good, but i wrote it so it shall remain xD

Finally, after all your attacks, do extra moves to build meter. It also helps with the shenanigans set ups, mentioned in other posts. Like, if you hit someone with, hk.st, immediately follow up with mk.st. That will build meter, and also sets you up for a cross up FBA.

stick to poking until I get to meters or I get one bar and a crMP xx EX FBA chance. whichever comes first.

I play exactly like a matador with The Beautiful One. Poke poke poke dodge dodge block, punish something stupid you did, continue poking to make’em nice and desperate and that’s where I finish them.

How is the Geif matchup for Claw? I’m looking for a good alt for my Fei.
