@af0 You can c.fp on reaction once you play enough Chun’s.
Edit: I didn’t see the faking cross up part

@af0 Yep, I can’t even get st.hk once in matches against my friend. cr.V.trigger currently should be the best tech against her this move. Another interesting thing which I found in playing against my friend is that it seems that Chun Li’s air lightning kicks is somewhat negative frames on block. It allows me to sneak in c.lps to push her away after blocking it.
Anyway good Chun Li’s probably will not use this move out of nowhere. Most of the time my friend perform the move is when I’m in recovery mode (either getting hit out of air and landing, doing a poke or quick recovery on wakeup) making it impossible to get in position to st.hk/v.skill her kicks.
@RagingStormX c.fp is clawed or clawless?
Played quite a few matches against Chun Li. Some match videos below:
Overall lost more than I won, but the matchup knowledge gained is invaluable. st.mp in claw mode is the key to take this match up. It forces Chun Li to take up unsafe normals like c.hk or st.hp to out range vega in the footsie game which is punishable with c.hk (slide). She also need to keep using her meter for ex.legs just to get some damage in.
What setups or options does Vega have after connecting with a c.hk crush counter?
I was clawless when I c.fp it, claw should work also, air legs are -1 on lk +1 on mk and -6 or so on hk versions.
The chun match in general is pretty hard for Vega. My buddy plays her and just turtles. You can’t really react and punish her fireball without super. The hitbox isn’t big so you have to be super close to ex roll. Her normal are better and b+fp beats any poke that doesnt hit low. You can’t jump in or even do meaty fba on crush counter sweep when you knock her down. Then her VT lets her pressure and Vega has no reversal.
My friend is a 3S guy and very good. He even reset the bracket vs poongko. The match is winnable, but hard. I usually beat aggressive Chuns, but smart calculated turtle is tough.
@RagingStormX thanks for the tips. Is there any tricks on meaty fba on crush counter sweep? What strength of fba to use?
Do you mean he started getting blown up trying to use clawless only?
Chun Li is such a shitty matchup. I don’t really like the fact that a lot of chars seem to easily beat out Vega’s normals in footsies… His range is supposed to be superior to all besides like Dhalsim. I’ve had the tip of my claw kicked many times and it just hurts my soul… I just try to be very unpredictable vs her and use fba on both sides of the screen with a lot of fakes, and once I get close I just try to use so many mixups that she gets overwhelmed. Empty jump low mixups and shimmy punish a lot.
Shimmying is godlike and not very hard. It forces people to be more conservative after waking up or while in blockstun too. It’s useful against the whole cast, even the grapplers/birdie.
Meaty fba after crush sweep is a little tricky. You do any version then hold towards the opponent, then hold back before you cross up, then forward at the last second. Done properly you will beat the reversal and get a combo or whiff and get a crush counter on recovery.
As far as the above post, Vega has bad bad hurtboxes and hit boxes in claw mode. Go look at claw s.mp. Fucking terrible.
Disgusting. I’m gonna choke Combofiend.
How does the site work? It’s not showing me any boxes when i click a move and charcter
Really sad when I see the blue and red boxes. The only normal we have that has the red (hit box) touching the edge of the blue (hurt box) is st.hp (clawless). Even his famed jump hp clawed mode also has a bad hurt box unlike SF4. Sigh.
Don’t really understand why when vega is using 3 ‘skewers’ and punching forwards, opponent can “punch” the ‘skewers’ and vega gets hurt instead. Thought claw mode should extend his hit box range and not his hurt box.
The site uses canvas, check if your browser supports html3 (chrome, firebox, IE10+) are safe bets.
Yeah his clawless normals are better overall and can beat stuff, but claw is range only. Priority pretty bad. Saving grace of s.mp is it’s +6 on hit.
It’s obvious in design it was intentional. They didn’t want Vega having CvS2/ST type pokes when clawless is strong. They don’t want a get good damage then claw stance lame it out the rest of the round.
Started using claw off in the start off matches after days of forcing myself to work with claw on. Claw off feels like god mode in comparison. I feel like online people actually have to respect my buttons. Clawless can confirm into big damage in more situations meaning that popular characters like Karin / Nekali cant spam as much. Claw on is still superior for stuff like Gief where committing to running away is actually a viable and probably correct strategy.
I mean come on, how many members of the cast can you actually reliable run away from?
@RagingStormX Yeah you’re right. I hope they at least give him a LITTLE more range tho, like goddamn… Kicking the claws just seems stupid. If those hurt boxes were just a bit smaller or pulled back more it would be gg for sure lol. I mean I understand why they did it, but I just think they went a little overboard making sure Vega didn’t have too much range considering Dhalsim’s range.
Vega also doesn’t have any easy ways to get in either so its kinda like wtf… One thing I really enjoy tho is making people want to jump in, and AAing them with cr.hp and doing it again before they hit the ground so it pretty much lands meaty. Spacing needs to be good tho or you’ll eat a dropkick.
@kidgogeta I know what you mean. Claw on tho, has ASE which is a nice follow up to a FBA claw knockdown as well as a good pressure ender/mixup that can’t be punished on block. However, I do see the much bigger benefits of playing with claw off against most of the cast rather than trying to play footsies and out poke them.
To me, Gief is so free with the claw, especially when they get too happy with that st HP, you can shove 6hp down their throat. When he gets in that jump in range I use cr.hp and it is super effective. Birdie can be a free match too as long as you stay alert. You can just poke the shit out of him and punish all his jump in chain throws with sweeps and more.
@Nekorin But how do I use it? It didnt work mobile. Now I’m at a desktop, select vega and a move, but nothing happens when I hit play.
The range bonus you get with V-Skill with claw on makes Gief’s st.HP practically suicide for him.
Anyone in here having trouble with r mika or laura? I miss one anti air and I feel like the match is over. Any tips?
s.lk instead of jumping since s.lk with actually beat things and jumping just gets you to die faster. Laura can’t even command grab or s.mp you after a elbow hits if you s.lk. She has to jab or c.mp.
