I rarely land a clean jump in with Vega but if i do is jHK>st HP>swich stance> cmp>mp roll for 280 dmg meterless it doesn’t knock down but you end up at +2…from there you have opened up a mix up like it has been already mentioned…you can walk up throw…walk a bit command throw or press cmp or st mp to counterhit button mashers…if you think the guy likes to reversal you can walk a bit and inmediatly block for a delicious punish and most likely stun…you can also jump and cross up right away…if you want to just knock down and land the most damage out of a jump or a blocked reversal just go with jHK>st HP> swich stances> cmp> EX FBA for 330 dmg or jHK>st HP>swich stance > cmp> EX roll for 308 dmg (i go with this one cause i suck at doing the Z motion…plus it puts your opp near the corner)
Guys i find the Laura and R.Mika matchups as extremely hard for Vega. Once they are in it can easily be game over for Vega and the other player can be a brainless *** and still beat you. How do you deal with them, (pls dont tell me spam claw on standing m.punch because it doesnt work eternally and those characters have armored attacks to get in); is there any video footage of Nemo or Flashmetroid dealing with those characters? what is the strategy… im not quite sure if Vega has to zone or go all in, or when to equip/unequip claw…
i was actively looking for good vega vs laura videos last night although I couldn’t find very good ones featuring flash metroid. that said here is nekonekodog vs a good laura player
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQxLwehURes&feature=youtu.be
things i’ve noticed from my experiences playing the matchup (although i’m only 3k rated)
[] her kicks are all negative except standing lk
[] bolt charge is not plus on block, at best it’s -2 so u should at least st lk after
[] ex bolt charge beats meaties on wake up. so i like to do a cr lp or st lk and then if i see the ex animation i just grab to beat it
[] clawless feels much quicker in this matchup. once I have the knockdown I try my best to pressure

the fireball thing can trade with slide and u get knockdown so i like that, also if laura tries to be cute with fireballs from distance, you can always v trigger
I keep hearing Bison players say he has bad AA or even the worst in the game. Is there a trick to jump timing? It seems like he can air to air Vegas jump on reaction pretty free.
bison does have the worst anti air in the game. that said, his air to air j mp still has to be respected. good way to expose this is to close the distance into bison just within sweep range and bait out pokes. then jump and aim for a cross up. these are much harder for a bison to neutral jump and react to and he has no viable anti air on the ground to cover that range.
the thing with bison is that this isn’t his weakest part. His defense is his weakest facet of his game. if you can get any knockdown you should try your best to maintain that pressure as he has no answer outside of v reversal. no invincible wake up option no 3 frame jab, nothing.
if bison gets you in a tight spot know that you can poke stmp > cr mp block string with your st lk, and try to keep an eye out or the purple flash of his dash. when that happens you want to stick out a meaty attack like cr mp clawless or something to catch the recovery. I believe his dash is 22 frames or something.
also, respect most of his frame traps but know that if he does psycho axe (the lunging heavy punch thing) that you can st lk and at worst trade since it is only +1 on block and he has only 4 frame lights. SAme thing with Nash’s lk moonsault.
Bison’s cr.HP looks really good when looking at the hitbox data. It moves from front to back ,catching even cross-ups, whilist maintaining high priority. It’s not the fastest so if people are trading or losing, it means they’re using it too late. It’s still excellent.
It’s only real weakness is that it can be baited by empty jumps just out of range
What do i do against Gief’s clp?..it seems to have around the same range than vega’s cmp but faster meaby…clawed st mp loses do to its terrible hurtbox…buster claw gets stuffed…can’t jump either cause Gief st lp beats anything vega can throw in the air and than leaves you in a really bad spot to get command throwed…i seriesly feel like Gief could just walk fordward pressing lp and clp and win the match…can’t even try to jump cross up cause st lp hits me in the air…luckily not a lot of Gief players seem to realize this most of the Giefs i come across seem to be stuck in the “why can’t i jump on him” phase)…i really miss cosmic heel when i see them mashing c jab in front of me and can’t punish them for shit
Mashing a light normal in neutral? Crush counter it. I see giefs do this a lot because it stuffs st.mp and f.hp if you time your normal wrong. If you sweep at the right range it’ll win and you’ll get a crush counter.
So about Kens run. Am I correct in thinking that the safest way to blow it up is ST. LK into target combo? It should combo due to counter hit .
That’s a brilliant punish buddy
I really hate fighting Bison and Mika. They just make me feel so fuckin free…my god.
Not knowing what to do is the worst feeling in the world.
Mika and Laura make me feel hopeless after they get in, as for Bison, Rushdown without hesitation and when he gets in good blocking should be enough, dont push any buttons when he is plus and watchout for his teleports/dashes. Wait for a chance to get out of his pressure, breath a little a go back to relentless rushdown. Really, bison is not that hard to fight imo… when he has to wakeup he is extremely free, more so than Vega due to the lack of a decent wakeup option or fast normal and his VReversal is meh.
I know Scissors is plus on block, but what else should I be looking for that’s also plus on block? Also besides Sweep what’s neg on block for Bison? So I can punish that shit when I see it.
EDIT: I just lost to a Zangief online. It wasn’t even SPD’s he just kept me out with crouching and standing jabs. I couldn’t even jump in I didn’t know Zangief could AA with his st.LP
It was embarrassing because I couldn’t figure my way around his LP spam. I ended up losing pretty badly. I had no idea what to do to counter it. Should I have used st.LK more? Every other button I was pressing was just getting stuffed. Shit left me with the biggest WTF? look on my face. I know there’s gotta be a way to deal with Zangief’s jabs.
Well, according to the Prima guide, if two buttons clash at the same time, the higher one wins. So your cr.MP and s.MP should definitely beat his jab spam. The key is you have to time it right.
Keep in mind you can zone out Zangief pretty hard. His jump in is awful so you can anti air with cr.HP and s.HK. The matchup feels 65-35 to me, Vega’s lead. But if Zangief gets in, you can’t get out because of your lack of defensive options.
As someone else mentioned if he as literally spamming jab, you can CC sweep him. If he wasn’t spamming it and used a plethora of other moves to deal with your other buttons, he just played well! Haha
@“Spinning Beat”
Scissors are NOT plus on block, only EX. They are safe, but if you block them his turn is over, especially considering he lacks a 3 frame normal. EX is listed as +1(V-Trigger it’s +3), but seeing as his fastest option is only 4 frames you can force a trade with one of Vega’s 3f buttons.
All versions of Inferno are at least -10, except EX which is -1(In V-Trigger they are all -5, except EX which is +4). The push back can make them hard to punish though. I haven’t tested any of this yet, but you should be able to get free EX FBA, CA, V-Trigger (has to be frame perfect on blocked heavy inferno), and sweep. His Target combo is -5 and c.hp is -11 lol. I would also like to point out his cr.mp is 0 on block, so st.lk should beat anything he tries clean.
I can’t find data on his dashes anywhere but I know his forward dash is reactable, especially if you’re are looking for it. Damn near every Bison loves to dash into throw at around the same range, so you can try to tag him in his recovery. If he tries dash behind EX blast you can EX Roll through it to turn the tables.
Nope dude def trolled me with crouching and standing jab.
I’m going to start recording all my matches and watch the ones where I lose…so I can get a better understanding as to what’s wrong. I tried to v-reversal bisons scissors kicks. But every time I did I just stopped blocking and ate a combo.
V-reversal is ->+PPP right?
EDIT: @Vhozon Thanks for the info. Not just for telling me data, but actually telling me what I can do against Bison. It starting to get a little more clear. Is st.Lk Vega’s only 3 frame normal? I know crouch LP comes out in 4 frames claw on or off.
Some Karin stuff after running tons of games.
- Claw off asap
-ST. MP is a given but make sure you also use ST. Heavy Punch and Neutral Jump MK to control horizontal space.
- CR. HP owns her jump. Don’t get greedy and try ST. HK it’s risky vs her limbs.
-Spam Jab after her elbow strike. Watch for fraudulent EX Ressenha though.
-Resist the urge to stand after eating her overheard. She gets nothing after. Most Karins want to hit you with CR. forward/ sweep immediately after so just crouch jab or strong after.
-Don’t wait for follow up on her Mujinkyaku. Once you block the two upward kicks immediately Hit CR. Strong.
-DO NOT let her get away a low forward. If you block you can even stick out a ST. Heavy and it will counter hit just about anything she presses.
-
Her spaced sweep is safe. Don’t get blown up trying to sweep back.
-
Optimal punish against Karin and Rashid Reversals is ST . HP > SC > ST .HP > SC > ST. LP > CR. MP > EX Roll / EX FBA.
Claw off immediately? Her st.MK will blow him up.
I find claw useful to throw out random ASE to catch her dashing in. Useful to also contend with her st.MK (cr.MP or st.MP) and cancel into V-trigger.
Her cr.HK is -11 at best - Vega’s starts in 9 frames…I’d be surprised if it’s ever safe…mainly cos hurtboxes stick out a lot after sweeps.
I think claw has its merits in this MU too, mainly for ASE. That attack’s active frames and hitbox are so amazing. And beating her in footsies.
How do you handle her jump crossup? Can you cr.HP it on reaction? Or will it whiff while she gets a punish?
In fact, just generally speaking, is there any way for Vega to anti air characters in crossup range? I tend to sweep under to reset to neutral.
