Last beta it was pretty safe on block as well (not sure about that cuz you know nobody tries to punish anything in these betas) so it was a great follow up to a jump-in giving you plenty of time to hit-confirm and it would also stand the opponent up.
Has lots of startup frames though, so you’d have to hit pretty deep on medium kick jump-ins to make it combo.
I’ve also anti-aired with it, but that was more of an execution error. Uppercut, standing HK and crouching HP are probably better anti-airs in almost every situation.

Its purpose it that similar of the sf4 version, as an AA specifically for xup range jumpins where cr.hp or dp will whiff, also using it as an antiair it knocks them down rather than air resets but i would assume worst damage of the punch, used primarily as a very open frame trap and for big damage punishes.
I can’t give you a straight answer. But from what I remember, bare-handed FBA is safer and might not have that bounce recovery animation on whiff that claw FBA does.
In general gameplay that b+hk move is pretty questionable though. It’s worse than his close s. rh in other games imo just as far as hitboxes go. This isn’t like walk up axe kick in other games by any means.
Whether you think the damaging combos that are easily hit confirmable from it make the move worth throwing out in non punish situations is up to you. Works pretty well as a meaty at least.
Jesus his st.lk cancel is one of the most interesting he had even ultradavid liked it as well. Problem is Thats not even half of it, here some rumor changes:
St.mk, St.hp, St.hk, Cr.hk are V-trigger cancelable * Its more universal mechanic though*
Slightly range increase cr.mk * Not sure still doesn’t look too good yet*
Cr.mp, Sweep combos * haven’t seen footage of this though might be true*

I forgot the other changes. Think i know capcom reason behind these changes but i definitely don’t think ryu deserve some of these changes. I would like to think they just experimenting which i’m 90% sure but if he stay like this will be seeing way less interesting/solid ryu than he was in the beta.
