There is no point other than to combo into v.trigger. You won’t ever pull off FBA loop ala ST since tech knock down destroys that. They’d be up and AA you in no time. FBA not knocking down is not a big deal, at all. You’ll get way more damage with a combo off it than ever trying to get a loop going.
Being able to do damage like every other character without having to spend meter makes him way better all by itself. I still don’t understand his design choice for IV.
Truth! However, he lands instantly now and you’re able to combo attacks off it. We’ve only seen this during hit though, so I have no idea how this will be for empty FBA. Right now, FBA looks to be very similar to how the dive kick is in Omega when he is clawless. Clawed is completely different, but he still lands immediately.
Probably dodge the move as it is about to hit, they’ll whiff because no hit stun, land, and you’ll probably hit them or at least force them into a blocking situation.
I wish they found a move to incorporate into his style that had Shoryuken-like properties. He needs a solid DP, because once Vega is pressured, he struggles more than 85% of the cast in SFIV.
Nice! That breakdown was awesome, haven’t seen anything like that for a SFV Trailer thus far
I used his Alt 2 a lot in Super Street Fighter IV, but switched to Alt 4 in Ultra. I personally love it; it’d still be nice to get his classic fit as an alt costume though. They also still need to work on his face, as well as Ken’s. I’m indifferent about his hair, haha, I think either looks cool.
What visually shocked me at first, and still does shock me is his purple eyes; how come no one has commented on that? Haha
A “Solid DP” would be too much for Claw. I am talking from a SF4 point of view here. You give that character an invincible DP and he will shit on half the cast.
I know Vega has unique tools that already set him aside from the cast, but unless you main Vega, or at least use him to a certain degree, you won’t understand how difficult it is for him to deal with rushdown. Especially when his moves have little priority over most of the cast in SFIV to begin with.
If you hit early enough or under the opponent enough, it is. For deep AA, no it’s pretty terrible.
He doesn’t need a DP in this game. He has every tool he needs. Good buttons, lots of combo, new specials tailored to his play style instead of stuff that worked in old games with old mechanics, evasive moves and moves that evade and punish.
In this game? Probably. I don’t think this game is going to have the same type of reversal as SF4. In SF4, he actually could really use such an attack. Why light ST does not hit low and whiffs through people at point blank is beyond me, and why it’s not invincible on start up is also beyond me. He’s so free on wake up it isn’t funny. Having to deal with jab jab or jab throw pressure because you don’t know which is going to come out and have no answer for either sucks. It may shift some of the match ups to his favor a good deal, but for the match ups where people get to literally walk all over him for free he needs it.
Definitely agree with everyone saying he has the best design out of every SF character. Very simple, yet completely original and still not stale even now after years of seeing him. I’m actually really looking forward to seeing him SF5 now he looks like he can put up a fight when close to the opponent, I’m really not a fan of staying back and so I never got a chance to use Vega, if he has even the slightest ability to rushdown in this game, I’ll give him a try. I liked him in SF4 but he just felt way too passive and always had to stay at that mid-range point and had no options when close.
Oh, and can he not drop his mask any more or what? It wouldn’t be Vega without mask drops and claw drops, I’ve heard in the thread that his claw is gone for good once you lose it though which is definitely going to be annoying.
