Vega General Discussion 2013-2015 and on!

Whaaaaat?! That’s the funniest thing I’ve seen so far in 2013 lmao. Good job on getting top 8 at Apex! Hopefully Chris King and I do well at SCR this coming weekend.

Goodluck loco and cris! Here is hoping to a good start to the year of the claw

Seriously, couldn’t they just shut down the whole negative edge thing ? Who does uses that, aside Juri ? Who doesnt complain about it ? =p

I learned while playing Rose to keep guilty puttons pressed, but having to think to it while MP into LP-RCF, while karathrowing, and while cMK cMP Ex Izuna is a bitch. That just looks horrible when you get an unwanted MP SHC in the middle of a match… =o

A good Rose can get +0 after a blockstring ending with HK-Spiral ; +1 if done a max range (which blockstrings do not allow). It’s the female side of Bison’s LK-Scissors in fact, but slightly less abusable : provides you advantage as long as you’re in opponent’s mind. =)

About v2013, is it really goint to happen ? 'cause while we’re at it, I would have asked for a cLK who does connects on standing opponents after two cLP: it does whiff on a lot of characters. A shame for an attack meant precisely to catch standing ones. It’s more bug fixing than a buff. Or +1 of hitstun/bockstring while taking away it’s cancelabilty, but make it useful, damn !

(and I’m not saying a thing about giving EX-ST i-frames, do I ? X_X)

Capcom won’t give Vega EX-ST I-Frames for as long as they have the same balance team.

I’m honestly convinced that the reason he gets shafted so hard is that the balance team could never beat him in arcade mode at SF2 when they were younger, so they take it out on him now that they have the power to :stuck_out_tongue:

rofl. I’m sure you may be close from truth.

Character design (weak to jump-ins) may be part of it as well. The thing is 4 I-frames wouldn’t be enough to make it a good aa, since it’s hitbox hits at mid-height at 4 frame, and is only aa a couple of frames after it (where invincibility would have worn off). So it would be for Claw to have a ground reversal, such as El fuerte has only an anti-air reversal.

But I don’t see it happening either. In fact, just making cLK usefull would be quite interesting already. =)

Played HDR some days ago and how good the ST was almost made a tear come out. Then Iwent back to AE with the current ST and became a sad panda. :frowning:

is there goig to be a 2013 revision?

Nothing is known about that yet, if i had to guess 2012 edition is the last sf4, but that is pure speculation on my part.

Quite a few people are being optimistic about a version 2013 but I really doubt they will change it unless they find something that glitches the game really badly.

As it stands, I think Vega is just powerful enough. I don’t want him to be top tier, only played by really good people so that everyone gets mind fucked when some mid-tier-nobody beats them… I love that feeling. Sometimes I like the fact that we don’t have invincible frames or reliable AA.

No, seriously.

Every character has it’s flaws. The « problem » is that some almost do not have (Ryu’s mid range game is his only weakness IMO), and some have a lot. Some characters do not have invincible reversal, some do not have 3 frames moves, some do not have chainable jabs, some do not have good aa, etc. etc.

The only thing is that SFIV’s Claw has a lot of weaknesses, whereas most characters have one or two. Pick Sim, El fuerte, Abel, Gen : they have a least one good reversal. Not fully invincible for some, but good enough to beat normals, or to beat throw, or to beat jumps at wake-up. Pick Blanka : no chainable jab, but he has aa and invincible moves. Our character has been wanted weak vs jumps, that’s OK, but why also weaken his grounded defensive game ? Why also weaken his attack (no chain jab, useless cLK, limited combos into ultra, limited frame advantage, hardly used FADC combos, etc. ) ?

It’s not something which will prevent you having fun, but the day you’ll find yourself in a tournament, facing an opponent as skilled and as smart as you… then you will feel more heavily Claw’s flaws. Just a matter of balance. =)

I’m still hoping a Claw will win a major one day, just as a Gen player did not so long ago. Winning against odds. =)

Meteo why did you switch to stick?

Sim has a reversal? :>

Just because I wanted to try it and leave myself an opportunity to learn new characters such as piano characters properly if I ever wanted to. Also, I wanted to be able to play on legit arcade machines. I figured learning stick would give me a more universal skill that would be easier to transfer over to new systems and not have to rely on a certain kind of pad, and it would also be easier to borrow someone else’s stick if my stick malfunctioned (rather than having to find a pad player).

The strategic differences are minor in my opinion. On pad I was able to plink MP or even MK for some characters (like Ken’s kara-throw) just fine by learning a thumb sliding technique. Dashing on pad seems slightly easier while charging on stick seems slightly easier, but both can be trained to the same level I’m sure. Especially now that you can get reliable universal plug-and-play controller adapters for 360/ps3 the only true drawback of a high-quality pad i think is not being able to play on arcade machines.

One of the reasons I played on pad for so long was mainly because I really loved how quiet they could be. Back when I had family or roommates in close quarters I could play all night on a pad and not bother anyone. Pad’s aren’t really cheaper than a high-quality stick because if you play a lot, pads will wear out and you’ll need to replace them every 400 hours or so (I have a drawer full of pads with a sticky button, sketchy d-pad, or lose control stick!)

Yea I kinda hate moving to stick cuz of how worn out my pad is right now, also Doctor Claw is so good with Vega Sanford gave him a shout out at Battle Circuit 2 saying he was 2nd best Claw in America right now behind Zeus and Doctor Claw doesn’t even play offline.

Were EX Yoga Blast/Super cutted from v2012 ? =p

Well, if they do, I hope they do like the did Anniversary Edition for SF2, and grace us with the glory that was Super Street Fighter 4 Vega.

El Cubao Loco and Chris King are gonna make things happen with Vega today at SCR!

On the topic of Meteo moving to stick. The only reason that I moved to stick was because if I ever had to cross platform (IE moving between 360/PS3), it was a royal pain in the ass as a pad player and I never owned a 360 at the time to learn the pad for it.
So it’s good on that point and if you have to deal with arcades.
Oh and if your stick kills itself at a tournament, you know like 90% of the people going will have one and you have a high chance of finding someone to let you borrow it.
Pad? Not so much.

I know this isn’t the topic for this, but speaking of 2013, new life, why our matchup thread is so disorganized?
Look, it’s not even possible to find necessary information without looking the whole thread. All other characters topics has so organized matchups. Like makoto forum, they have illustrated guides in pdf and explanatory videos with more than an hour.
Why vega players can’t be committed as well? I’m almost creating a new matchup thread based on the information we already have…

I’m sure it would help to gather into a structured thread all the information the MU thread does contains. That would also mean a lot of work, since selecting relevant info for v2012 among older advices would require a lot of reading.

If there is someone willing to help in that way, I’m sure it would improve the Vega forum. At least it should reduce the number of random threads asking already answered question.

This forum lacks a bit of care I think. Between outdated stickies (with broken links in our read first), frequently asked threads (anti-airs, safe-jumps) who could be stickies, and spam WWE ad threads who remains for days before being removed.

But still, any people of goodwill are welcome. =)
