Hmm I’m certain my button presses are not frantic, and if I was clipping MK or HK, I assume the button inputs indicator would surely display this (instead it displays forward+LP (or MP depending on which I am using) even though Vega has done a Scarlett Terror on screen).
I know my post could come accross as a simple “newbie-ish” mistake, but it’s not really. If you (or anyone) have your Xbox near you, go onto Training mode with Vega and try it 10 times (with button inputs on), tell me what you find.
maybe it’s not frantic, but it could still be negative edge. Are you holding down the MK when you do it? If so, then just tap it and let it go immediately.
As others have said, you’re probably negative edging. What that means is that when you go from downback to forward (for the RCF), you’re still holding down the mk for a fraction of a second too long. When you release mk, it uses that for the input, giving you a ST.
Okay, I’m a total novice at Vega and want to play with him sheer 'cos he’s a badass. A special move that cuts his range in half? How cool is that? Anywho, how can you decide which wall you jump off from with the Barcelona?
Edit: I did some thinking and it’s quite obvious. You just point your stick towards the wall you want to jump off from…
I encountered somethign similar. A Zangief was winning, so he was turtling from fullscreen, spamming the focus attacks in the corner. I did the ultra at one oppurtunity to hit while he was doing the focus, and it went right through him.
I later realized he did a backdash off the focus and gave him invincibility. Since Ultra is only 1 frame, it should theoretically be possible for opp to back dash it on reaction with a little bit of timing, and have it go through the invincibility frames.
I’m 100% sure he didn’t plan it because he was scrubby, especially if he’s spamming focus attacks; It just happened to work out for him. It’s someone I usually beat.
With Balrog, you can:
charge then df+PP ~ f
to execute an “ex slide punch” (not sure about the name) and karacancel it into an “ex dash straight”, this is useful when you want to absorb an ex fireball for example (more details in the Balrog forum).
Anyway, could this kara-cancel also benefit Vega?
Examples:
Kara Cancel an EX RCF or EX Scarlet Terror into an EX FBA?
The purpose here would be to benefit from the “goes-through-fireball-property” of the EX moves and then connect an EX FBA to Izuna Drop.
Command would be:
charge down-back, then f+KK (or PP) ~ up/up+forward (+KK?)
Actually, Balrog can kara his charge, down-forward + PP into charge, forward + PP (or up+PP). The question is to know if this kara-cancel is related to Super Armor or not?

Combo that works on standing blanka and crouching characters
C.mk -> MP rolling crystal flash works on standing blanka and all crouching char. [except blanka].
does 220 dmg. which is not bad for a non ex vega combo.
since its a combo it works nice for a block string aswell.
also for fireball users. once u jump over the fireballs u can connect j.mp -> c.mp -> ex walldive.
does 285 dmg and is good considering the range on j.mp. was doing this against a good sagat player and it works wonders. just make sure they are throwing fireballs.
Quoted for truth. I’ve been using rolls a LOT during my block strings and lockdowns, and everyone I fight just sits there as I keep them blocking all day, waiting to make my move with a throw (too bad he doesn’t have an overhead, then this would become WAY more worthwhile). Just watch out for certain characters that can break out.
