Vega (Claw) Thread

I end up knocking someone down and then going for a meaty wall dive. I then continue to do that and just cross them up. It works pretty well. Other than that I just punish fireballs. But that requires a lot of guessing.

I can get wall grabs on SOME Hondas, Dhalsim is dead, SOME Bisons and yes mainly to Punish Shoto Balls.

But that is like 10 percent, tops…I dunno deadontime101 and King have seen me in action (well King saw me play early on)

Yeah, wall dives are scarce from me too. I only do them when I’m almost positive I won’t get punished for it, or near the end of the match when I have my super. I almost always go for the izuna drop when I do wall dive, since I wait until it’s safe to do so anyway.

cr.strong alllllll dayyyyyyyyy

Really? I’m always doing wall tricks. I haven’t really been punished for a blocked wall dive. The mind games are too much…are you going to claw from their side, cross up, throw, fake dive, do the dive right off the wall…mix it up mostly whether you crossing up. Once your set above their head, if they can’t aa you, they’re set for a pure mix up in blocking either which way.

As far as Blanka crossing up and just stay standing and block and then wait and see and try to react. I’ve never really thought of doing backflips…just felt risky, but I’ll definitely try it next time and see how that goes.

Effective wall dives require very precise timing and positioning; they work against everyone in the cast in certain situations, no exceptions. I wouldn’t mind proving all this to those who need to see it for themselves.

However, since they don’t knock down in normal circumstances, their potential damage in certain matchups has been drastically reduced in STHD. In addition, being that close to characters after a hit or blocked wall dive is oftentimes not to claw’s advantage.

In real matches, non-okizeme wall diving is:

-an effective poke
-a tricky baiting technique
-a good horizontal charge disperser
-a useful predictive punishment against slow moves (e.g. projectiles)

Wall dives are still generally as risky as jumping so they can’t be spammed in most cases. This iteration greatly rewards claw players who know his ground game (or more accurately, punishes those who focused on wall dives) so anyone relying on his pokes haven’t been missing out on much.

The thing that makes me mad is that I really think Vega’s Fake Wall Dives are really, really, really good… but it’s almost impossible for me to tell because the game de-syncs so much on me when I play him online. It’s very frustrating, and I cannot get a good bead on how effective it is because I’m never sure when my matches are truly legit.

This desync issue has GOT to be fixed.

I totally agree that fake dives are really good…not sure about 3x really, but it adds SO much more depth to his wall dive mind games. Everyone here is so much on ground claw’s nuts. He lost knockdown wall dive…which absolutely sucks, but he wall dives mix ups are still there. The main thing is using on hit we don’t get a wakeup mix up.

I agree, especially for someone like me who uses Vega a lot. It’s not right.

The fake wall dive should also lead to a lot of good run away tactics too. See, even though they took out his knockdown claw dive, he got another useful tool. Way to go!

Agreed on the fake dive stuff. You can really mess with someone’s head with this move.

So is it something specific that Vega does to cause a desync? Cause I’ve played about 50 matches so far with him and I can only remember a match ending prematurely once, and I’m pretty sure it was just the guy quitting.

The one thing to note about Vega’s desync is that it DOESN’T ALWAYS DISCONNECT YOU. In fact, you can have a desync that gets synced up again later on, next round.

Just when you play Vega, notice if your oppoennt starts to play likea vegatable for no reason or starts doing things he hadn’t been doing alllll game. It’s because on his screen, he sees you doing one thing but on your screen you’re doing something else. OR on his screen, you’ve died and on your screen you’re still living. So he starts to stand there like an idiot and you kill him for free.

Next round, things seem to reconnect sometimes, but not always. So keep in mind that a desync isn’t a disconnect, it’s jus that the two screens have gone completely out of sync, so players are playing against different things but the controller inputs are still registering on both games, causing characters to do wildly different things.

Out of curiosity, who gets the win?

Claw only needs to empty jump throw against shotos all day. Nobody wall dives against Honda or Sim. Or a good Dictator, for that matter.

What is vega’s answer to his wall jump stuff? Jump neutral fierce? Kick flip? I have had kick flip hit quite a few times, or grabbed from behind, might be doing it early though. Jump neutral seems spotty for me, and trades or back and forths are not usually in my favor. sometimes K flip works well, although it kinda leaves us at neutral.

Just jump up and hit him with mp or hp…

flip kick or jump back fp/mp like deadontime said. I’ve actually had some luck with a his his lp flying claw

Is there any point to do the normal off the wall motion instead of the super motion once you get a super charge ?

Nope, pretty much never. If you’re doing a wall dive, doing the super motion is always worth it…it only gets used if you actually connect the throw. So if you fake wall dive or get teh claw dive, it won’t burn your super.

Anyone have any tips to fight Gief? He gives me shit with his lariats and his splash. How can I keep him away

yes, gief is annoying as fuck, (especially online) but in the end, vega still wins.

lariats, u gotta hit him after the first rotation. standing hp, standing mp and slide works the best.

as for the splash. if thats all gief goes for, you can sac throw him, because most gief just spam this shit thinking they can just get away with it. just dont eat too much of it or you’ll get dizzied quick. if you have a charge, you can always flip kick it, but giefs jump ins have crazy range that can hit outside of your flip kick range like his j.hk.

wall dives are to be used sparingly as its very easy for him to lariat you out of it now and it doesnt knock down anymore. sky high claw is really good as gief can’t do shit if blocked and it will stuff almost anything he do. obviously, don’t abuse this move, especially when hes in range to drop kick you out of it.

sometimes its just good to walk up and throw his slow russian ass.
