Vega ABSOLUTE ESSENTIALS

OH HAY GUYZ!!!

long time no talk…

Im a fellow Vega player that is loving SSF4…

although i havent been able to really play that much (real life).

Anyway im rusty right now and last night i had the pleasure to play against the #1 Vega of XBOX that is our very own, Jozhear…

So i lost both matches, and probably he didnt even realized he was playing me but, i noticed that there are a ton of things that are essential for Vegas gameplay.

Things that must be done in every match for you to be safe or win.

Tools that are should be used by every Vega.

So after my match against Joz i learned a couple of new things about Vega, how should he move, what is he capable of and other stuff.

I play other characters (as many of you may also do) to help me understand how to play against them with Vega.

So in short.

I would like this to be a different kind of thread, not one that list a match up against certain characters, but one that answer us some questions like how do you win?, why you do that?, how do you run away?, do you use lk instead of mk after cr.mp?

Give us details, we are trying to figure out the core game of Vega.

So as an example, i will tell you what i learned last night.

As i mentioned before im a little bit rusty, but i play every now and then.
I played Vega vs Jozhear, he used Vega too, As the match started i convinced myself to try an aggresive approach, it didnt work, i was getting caught up in the cr. mp every time i tried to do something, also i was being locked up by the insane waves of st.lk - cr.lp that Jozhear uses.

so i ended up dying.

But i was using the same character, what happened? well he did locked me up in a corner, opening up the gates to mind games and mix ups.

Main confusing link.

Cr. lk, cr. lp, st. lk… wait… cr.mp

I fell for the mix up link, i did block the entire string but the problem was at the end of it, he A) waited to see if i would try to jump, or B) waited to see if i would try a reversal or C) i would do nothing so he could start all over or grab me.

So maybe its just part of Jozhear’s game but he played a more dinamic Vega.

He did a lot of cross ups with df + hk, so it seems that nothing is happening but SSF4 is a game with strange speed, those cross ups end up killing your wake up game.

And those are things that i dont see in other Vega’s, i played against Pedoviejo too, and (sorry for the comparison) he didnt use a lot of stuff that Joz’s uses (different styles) but that really made an impact on the match, it was an easier match (although i lost too) because i didnt fell the pressure, it was more of a wainting match against Pedo.

so i hope you guys understood what im trying to accomplish here.

This doesnt have to be an analisys for when you play vs a Vega… its a general CORE GAME ANALISYS not strategy.

No problem. I just dont like to push buttons. And that is what kills me, because it makes it easy for my opponent. A lack aggression outside of the corner. Im either poking you to keep you out or to pressure you, or I go bat shit crazy once i have you in the corner. I really dont do “mix ups”, or other things like that.

Maybe we should follow the example of the Ibuki community and start to upload some of our matches so we can make a constructive critique out of them… we can start with our replays that are already saved… Ill try to start today.

u 4got u plyed against me too HECROB lolz

??

Really… Yesterday???
Well i dont remember sorry…

But i do remember having played against you but like 10 days ago

no not yesterrday but yess 10daysz ago.

One of vega’s essentials is learning how to delay your attacks at specific intervals. It really helps alot in giving vega advantage in mind games.
This is where his hp version of RCF come in handy too, due to its long startup frames, it helps in punishing counter poke happy opponents.

eg. If you are facing a ryu who likes to c.mk to counter poke your pokes. A cancelled hp.rcf from a far blocked c.mp will help alot as the long startup will make ryu’s c.mk whiff at a distance while hitting ryu on his c.mk recovery frames.

One of his essentials is comboing properly. Look for the hit confirms and combo. Knowing the ranges is important too.

  1. Cr mk -> cr mp -> ex FBA - around 285 dmg (Most range)

  2. cr lp -> cr mp-> ex fba - around 265 dmg (third best range)

and the four main combos that you can do without any pre charge time.

  1. Cl FP -> cr mp -> ex FBA. - 315 dmg (worst range)

  2. Cr mk - cr lp- cr mp -> ex FBA - around 285 dmg (fifth best range)

  3. st lk -> cr lp -> cr mp -> ex FBA - 251 dmg ( either tied with the other or the second most range)

  4. Cr lp -> cr lp-> cr mp -> Ex FBA - 241 dmg (forth best range)

Also if you haven’t already, then you should take a look at my thread here

I talk about alot of Vega essentials although I label them tips.

I needed a new regimen to practice now that I’m starting to play around on stick properly and I think I just found one. Useful post as usual Alex <3

Vega absolute essential #1 - kara throw

as long as they’re not Srk happy, or else you’ll eat it every time.

It is pretty amazing. Get this in your game if you haven’t already. Kara throwing people to death in Endless is pretty amusing.

#1 - Learn to Block / Late Tech
