Vanguard Princess: Happy 5th anniversary!/eigoManga SUCKS - Now on Steam

I think he meant the assist is playable. As far as I know there’s no random select for the main characters.

You sure know a lot about this game without actually playing it. :))

Actually, I am playing this, despite the fact that it’s too anime even for me.

Unfortunately this game doesn’t have online, so competitive play is going to be hard to come by until that’s fixed.

I’ve taken a liking to Kurumi (or “Croomy Mirrormatch,” as I like to call her). She seems to be the most combo-friendly character in the game without the need of an assist, even if it is just short chains with her normals.

This is what I’ve learned after experimenting with Kurumi’s combo chains a bit:

A can combo into 6A.
2A can combo into 6A.
A and 6A can combo into B.
A and 6A can combo into C.
B can combo into 2C.
B can combo into 6B.
A and 6A can cancel into 6B, but it won’t combo because the opponent will recover too quickly from the hitstun of A/6A.

I wish I could say that 2A combos into 2B, but I’ve tried it and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Further investigation may be required.

Potentially you can do 4-hit chains with A/2A -> 6A -> B -> 6B/2C. But this is really tricky because you have to have the stick at neutral or hold it down for the 1st hit, then hold forward for the 2nd hit, then go neutral again (or alternatively, hold back) for the 3rd hit, and then hold either forward or down for the 4th hit. Doing this at the speed required for such a chain takes a lot of practice and timing, and it’s very easy to mess up. One of the attacks in the chain will either come out too slowly, or you’ll perform the 6B instead of the B for the 3rd attack (and it won’t combo).

I find A -> 6A -> C to be a far more practical chain in actual play. You don’t have to worry about timing this chain too much because 6C is the same as C (in this combo, at least). But 6A -> B -> 6B may be better in some situations. For instance, if the opponent likes to crouch under your A or your C, or if you just want to keep the pressure up by moving forward with 6B.

Yes I like Kurumi too. She really starts to shine when you begin using assists to suppliment her already fast normals and attack chains. The only real problem she has is that she kind of has poor range off her combo starters and has to rely on jump ins and assist cover to get in close.

This is also not so bad because she has 22 in the air, which makes her invulnerable until she touches the ground, so she can advance with that.

Her gattai super can combo from jump.5C on landing and it does quite a lot of damage, but I don’t think people will be using it very often because her loli needs to be on level 5 for it to work.

Testing the stuff:

yeah,i’m able to rip stuff now.PM me for how i get the ripper.

I usually save my assist gauge for Kurumi’s super. I find that using assists messes up my rhythm when I play as Kurumi. I don’t have much trouble with getting in close; I just poke with C or 6B or 2B if the opponent wants to play keep-away.

Some other stuff I found in Practice Mode:

A and 6A can combo into 2C. (That’s one fast sweep move.)

If you hold forward and press C during a chain when you’re within throw range, the attack will not come out. That’s why, if you’re up close and you try to do 6A -> 6C, the 6C will do nothing. Same goes for A -> 6C, because you’re still within throw range. However, A -> 6A -> 6C will work, because the first two attacks together will push you or your opponent far away enough that you’re no longer within throw range. Also, if you put a bit of distance between you and your opponent in the beginning, A/6A -> 6C will work.
Remember: in a combo, 6C is the same as C. So performing A/6A -> C will still work.

Played with my friend again and I used these chains.

236c c b a a 2d(mecha or the boxing girl) 236b (delay) a (delay) c for corner. This one is very close to stunning the opponent, maybe if I improve it further, it’ll stun.

236c c b 6d(mecha) b 6(to return to neutral) 236c c b b 6d ?+?+? for midscreen, but I managed not to drop this one only once, or twice in three hours, because I must input 6d immediately after b, during the shot’s animation. This way Luna won’t change her stance.

Also, Luna can be thrown out of her super.

The whole point of Kurumi is to use assists regularly to make up for her lack of specials and attacking options. Kurumi’s assist guage charges much faster than anybody else’s.

How do I use Lilith’s supers? I can’t seem to figure out her moves, like the one where she gets bat wings and then does a piledriver.

Her piledriver is done by 360 A/B/C. Her lone super is done by 360 + BC and is a combination of all her command grabs (the 360, anti-air DP, HCF and HCB throws).

She also has a Flame Breath ala Doppel Nanase from EFZ, done by mashing any attack button (preferably C).

Ah yep I just figured this out that I’d forgotten to try 360 motions. >.<

By the way, some characters have ‘powered up’ versions of their standing Cs that can be done by pressing B and C at the same time.

There obviously isn’t a move list when you start arcade mode or on the guy’s website

No, no, I made sure, checked all colors, it’s clearly a nipple shot, thought you’ll NEVER see it in game because it goes by so freaking fast…Thank god for sprite ripping!

I’ll upload the image later I guess…maybe…if I can w/o getting smite by a higher up or something ( not like it get’s shown on the board outright anyway, but still ).

If anything though I’ve now got all of the music as .Wav’s on my little music player so I can have it when I go out or something, it’s really good stuff.

…and yeah only the boss as a loli assist is usable…you can’t PLAY as the boss AFAIK…thought it does seem like she’s set up to be able to…

Yeah, and how do I know what ‘360 motion’ is in japanese? All I saw was a jumble of foreign characters with no direction inputs telling me what to do. He obviously chose to say “full rotation” or something instead of using direction arrows like he did for the rest of the commands.

After playing this for a while is it just me or does this game give off a kind of Phantasy Star Online feel with the graphics?

Vanguard Princess invades Kotaku!

Lol, has anybody experienced a “CALCIUM BREAK!” yet?

Probably the most hilarious thing in this game.

you mean gaia online dood

Always a few days too late with them IMO but I guess it shows the news about the game’s getting around.

A few of the outfits kinda do…But otherwise not really.

Not yet, what is it and how do I do it? I’ve seen the sprite for it but otherwise yeah.

“???1??” means one 360.
"???2??" means 720.

Even if you don’t know what the kanji mean, if you could read the first bit you might be able to guess that it’s some kind of shorthand for “revo(lution)”. It’s a notation that isn’t actually that uncommon. You might’ve seen it in places like Arcana Heart…

… or Gleam of Force.
