Vampire Savior: What did the game need to balance it better?

It always seemed too rushdown-heavy for me, like there isn’t a character who can win with pure keepaway. Same problem I always had with KOF.

Hunter looked more interesting to me although I haven’t played it.

Yeah, well, someone had the genius idea of making Turbo 3 be the tournament standard. :looney: Considering how keen people are on settling with default (or close to it) settings, playing it two or three speed levels above that is kinda weird.
What’s the story on that anyway, slower speeds made it too easy?

hmm, i thought from the start VS was supposed to be a fighting game for a fighting game player? It’s not a casual game for players are willing to spend a few minutes here or there with friends. It actually takes practice to get @ a decent level.

how would you make it more player friendly w\o dumbing down the technical aspects of the game?

IMO, a re-release on 360\ps3 would make the game popular again since players now have sticks for those systems.

for the exact reasons players may not want to play it, I actually prefer games to be fast and VERY technical.

I love the game. Only issue I would change is Zabel’s j.sk unblockable (and im a zabel player too). Otherwise the game is gold.

p.s. Changing the execution requirements would be one of the worst things you could do for me, I love the pace and technicality of the game.

a lot of those combos in that video are not possible in the accepted version of the game. Bulleta’s lp dash link infinite is VERY hard to pull off, not many can pull it off consistently in a match. VS is one of my most favorite fighters and i think it is capcom’s best fighter. If they make an HD remix for this game i’d like to see it remain intact with only minor changes like taking away the unblockable frame on zabels j.lk, and maybe changing the frames on the command grabs. even if they don’t make those changes the game is near perfect IMHO. oh yeah PLEASE DON’T CHANGE ADVANCE GUARDING!!! that shit is mad fun to do…

Fixed to make it a bit more true. Doesn’t matter where the player hails from, a REALLY good Sas or Zabel will mess you up, either way.

Also agreed, though I think that, after getting (re-)introduced to Vampire Hunter, I think I prefer Hunter just a bit more than Savior. But that’s like saying I would prefer to get $25 bucks over just $20, it’s all good either way! :woot:

Yeah, it only needs two stocks. Now you just have to find someone retarded enough to let you pull that combo off on them. I remember the very first day I played Vampire Savior, I thought his Dark Force was bad-ass, but now I realize that it’s probably the most worthless, most dangerous Dark Force to use in the whole game…not to mention that any combo ending with the nunchucks is unsafe.

Anyways, I think the game is really well-balanced, but like most games, there’s always room to make it better.

If someone honestly tells me that there are certain low tier characters that couldn’t use ANYTHING else (Anakaris not having push blocks? Jedah having no way of knocking down besides throw or Guard Cancel?), and top tier characters are also just fine (Sas’s crazy high/low game, Rapter’s crazy everything, Talbain’s braindead game)…well, I’d have to respectfully disagree. …Entirely.

Sure, the game is very well-balanced. But, like most well-balanced games, there’s always room for improvement. Sure, ST is probably one of the most balanced games of all time…but try and tell me that you feel great about playing Fei Long vs E.Honda. Good luck.

In my experience, if anything is the problem with Vampire Savior, it’s that it’s surprisingly uncomplex when you reach the higher levels of play. The only thing really crazy about the game is the speed and execution (which you can supercede almost entirely by playing Talbain - that’s what I did!), and a lot less about mindgames.

Don’t get the wrong idea - I love the game - but it’s more flawed than people make it out to be, I think.

Actually Bulleta, Rikuo, and turtling Talbains could do this. If not Anakaris as well. It can be played as both. But of course it is way more offensive than it is defensive.

Anyhow it dont need any changes to it at all. All it needs is a graphical makeover and we are solid.

As everyone already said, the game is already fairly balanced but if you NEEDED any changes:

–Fix Bishamon’s unblockable glitch
–Make Tech Hit easier…less inputs needed to activate, push block should be farther. Thus the game keeps its speed without balls-out rushdown being too good.

Nerfs:
–Sasquatch’s dashes and crouching normals should be slightly slower
–Raptor and Talbain slightly less damage on all normals
–Increase the height required for Q-Bee’s airdash
–SLIGHTLY increase pushback on BB Hood’s standing jab just enough to eliminate infinite.

Buffs:
–Hellhole Super for Anakaris is Level 1 (hey, it’s a decent super aside from the meter cost and most Anakaris masters do well with him anyway so why give him anything else? He’s SUPPOSED to be hard as fuck to play)
–Less start-up and slightly more range for Victor’s command/super grabs
–Less start-up for Lilith’s Soul Reflect and standing RH overhead
–A super for Morrigan that’s not useless, less recovery on Air Soul Fist
–Less recovery on Jedah’s Saw Wheel
–More range on Felicia’s DP+P, give her back the Litterbox Kick (just cuz)

When you have a game this close to perfect balance in the first place you can’t tweak too much or you’ll ruin everything.
Obviously I’m not a top player and I won’t claim to be a VS master so I’d like to hear some thoughts on this list.

Shiki, everything you said was spot on except Sasquatch…leave em the way he is.

bishamon’s unblockable glitch is part of his mixup game as he doesnt have much high/low game(some matchups where he can’t use them (q-bee/talbain) are extremely hard for him).

tech hit isn’t hard already, infact making it easier would only make the characters who need pressure to mixup and deal damage worse and the ones with godly high/low even better(and they are already top).

Sasquatch’s low hitting moves are fine already, u can’t link 2 of them together unlike almost every other character.

About raptor and talbain damage, i agree that comboing into ES BC and raptors specials does too much damage.

b.b.hood’s infinite is fine, its hard enough that people won’t do more than a few reps of it.

anakaris HCF+KK super already costs one meter only.

victor grabs are already 1 frame startup(yes the range is short but in this game grabs are used to mixup, not because of good priority/range.)

jedah’s wheel can be used defensively and offensively already so why change it.

really, the game is fine, maybe nerfing raptor a bit would balance it more but its already quite good in terms of balance.

Dunno why people are saying this shit is balanced.Too many 7-3 match ups for that.Only Game that’s pretty balanced is VF4(dunno know about 5 and 5r).
