I have never seen the mook before. So im hoping there will be some good info in there. Ill just have to get my japanese friend to translate it for me.

Im crossing my fingers for alot of framedata.

good sir,

I was eyeing that, but didn’t have the funds. …too good that you got it.

please one day be gracious to transpose missing frame data to the wiki, or scan pages. ^_^(should there br frame data of course)

Keeping it in the family.

I will do my best to scan the whole book and creat a PDF document set so it can help all of us.

Hey, VS newbie here…I picked up Talbain because I think he looks really cool. :stuck_out_tongue: What do you guys think of this basic strategy? I’ve looked around and no one even talks about doing this…it seems good, but I’m ready to be told I’m wrong  Here’s what I do (tweaked slightly if I must):

  • Build meter as much as I can (Usually to about 2 or 3, but I’ll go as long as I’m unattended to)…Btw, I really think the best way to farm for meter with Tailbain is to spam the Short Flash Kick; I do Short Flash Kick x3, Backdash with Roundhouse xN. Two reps of this gives you a bar in like, five seconds. I realize you don’t get to just DO that all the time, though.

  • Get in on my opponent using as little meter as possible (I’m assuming that I only have 2 or 3 levels here; if for some reason I have more, no big deal)

  • Activate Dark Force and do combos like:

  1. J.Hp -> J.Hk / ES Nunchakus (Standing opponents Cornered.)

  2. J.Hp / ES Nunchakus (Crouching Opponents Cornered)

  3. Dashing Hp / ES Nunchakus OR S.Mk/C.Mk -> S.Hk (Dash/Overhead Option.)

  4. C.Mk XX ES Nunchakus (For use when using DF Startup Invulnerability to dodge a move, or when acting DF to punish a blocked attack.)

  5. J.Hp -> J.Hk / S.Mk/C.Mk -> S.Hk (No meter option vs Standing opponents; also, more effective midscreen than Nunchaku Combos.)

  6. J.Hp / S.Mk/C.Mk -> S.Hk (No meter option vs Crouching opponents; also, more effective midscreen than Nunchaku Combos)

All these combos do about 65-80/144 damage (some up to 80-90 in the corner), which means if you land about two of these combos, your opponent will probably lose a life.

I’m new to this game, I’ve played it like maybe four or five times, so please excuse me if this isn’t a very viable start…but please, tell me why it isn’t! I’ve got Darkstarlkers Collection for PS2 in my possession for a whole week, and I’d like to figure this game out. Thanks!

I’ve had that happen a few times… always cracks me up. The opponent practically gets sent into orbit.

Vitality rankings and Character heights.

Nevermind…I answered my own question…that strategy is too meter dependant, requires him to be too reckless, and Talbain sucks at turtling anyways. :stuck_out_tongue: Still, I think that the Shot Climb Razor makes for the fastest way to build bar.

Anyways, because I don’t see it documented anywhere in this thread, I thought I’d take the opportunity to list Vitality rankings and character heights. I tested these all by using Talbain stuff against them…namely, for vitality, I checked out much a full ES Beast Cannon did against them, and for height, I saw if I could land J.Fierce -> J.Roundhouse while they were standing. Here’s what I got:

Vitality Rankings (Note: One life bar = 144 points of damage)

VTier 1 (60 Damage)

Victor

VTier 2 (64 Damage)

Bishamon
Sasquatch

Vtier3 (65 Damage - This is average vitality)

Demitri
Anakaris
Felicia (wtf)
B.B Hood
Jedah
Rikuo

Vtier4 (67 Damage)

Q. Bee
J. Talbain
Lord Raptor

Vtier5 (72 damage, holy shit)

Hsien Ko
Lilith
Morrigan

Character Heights

Tall (When crouching, these characters are slightly taller than other crouching characters)

Victor
Anakaris
Bishamon
Jedah

Normal

Demitri
B.B. Hood
Q. Bee
Lilith
Lord Raptor
Sasquatch
Morrican

Short

Felicia
Hsien Ko
J. Talbain
Rikuo (again, wtf)

Vampire Collection has a pretty extensive training mode. I’m not sure I’m the only one who has it, but if I am, is there anything someone would like me to check? I’ve got this until next Monday.

I hope you dont mind me throwing this on the wiki.

& aubath and bb both go under projectiles when dashing.
qbee crouches under almost everything(including quite a few gc’s)

I don’t mind at all. Glad to help.

Anything you’d like me to test out? I’ve got it for a few more days…

footspeed if possible… I dunno how to do it w/out two monitors though.

I’m 90% positive that characters have different forward and reverse footspeeds.

hell though, it may not even be necessary, since the game has dashes.

and I’m wondering about character widths, but I dunno how that would be tested. we may halfto wait for a mook for that. ty nonethaless

Characters definitely have different speeds going foward than backwards. In the Vampire Collection Training, you can hold select, and any key you press will make both you and the dummy do the same thing…so for example. if you’re on the 1P side, and you hold select and walk forward (Right on the D-Pad), the dummy will walk backwards (since it’s also Right on the D-Pad). When you do this, the person walking forward catches up much, much faster. I’ve only looked at this with one or two people though, but the general thing I see is that they clearly go a lot faster moving forwards.

also, what directions do you use for the 5 hits of your ES bc combo?

do you do it differently for an AA ES bc? ya right?

i’m so lazy w/ gallon

I think I do it really weird, but there are lots of different ways…generally I zigzag in a forward/backward - up xN motion, and I make corrections based on what happens. In the corner, I just do an Up - Down xN zigzag. A few things I stick to are:

  • Get under your opponent before switching to Up

  • Cancel Ups into Foward/Backward quickly

  • If you reach the corner during the BCs, switch your Fwd/Bck with Down (so you’ll be going Up - Down xN instead of Up - Fwd/Back xN)

  • For Air ES, it seems like you need to mash to get the second one to come out…maybe I just suck. :stuck_out_tongue:

  • If you mess up your timing on Forward/Backwards, your opponent will wind up behind you; you can correct this by doing Up - Down and then switching directions (it’s hard to explain… like say I’m doing Fwd. - Up xN and I cancel the Fwd too late, you need to just do Up - Down and then start going Backwards. I hope that makes sense…)

For the actual directions, they generally go like this:

Ground ES: Fwd - Up - Fwd - Up - Fwd

Anti-Air ES (if your opponent is in the air): UpFwd - Up - Fwd - Up - Fwd

Anti-Air ES (if your opponent is on the ground): UpFwd - DnBck - Up - Back - Up

Air ES (if your opponent is on the ground): DnFwd - Fwd - Up - Fwd - Up

Air ES (if your opponent is in the air) DnFwd - Up - Fwd - Up - Fwd or DnFwd - Fwd - Up - Fwd - Up*

  • This situation occurs more often than you might think; there’s really no particular one that works all the time…the general rule is if you hit them really early, do the first one, and if you hit them kind of late, do the second one, and know how to make error corrections by doing Up - Downs, cos you’ll probly need it.

Corner Combo (any version ES): (Starting direction) - Up - Down - Up - Fwd*

  • You gotta let the first one take you kinda deep into the corner, or else not all the hits will connect. You just gotta get a feel for it, I guess.

That’s generally it. You’ll notice that it’s mostly logical; they’re all mostly the same with different startups.

…Oh! Another random thing about Talbain…His Air Throw activation frames (for lack of a better term?) are above him. You’ll notice that it’s kind of hard to do an air throw when you meet someone mid-air, but it’s considerably easier when you catch them on the upward arc of your jump.

omg… its so simple, it pisses me off…lol

& i always option select throw w/ j.mk-j.rk when i use gallon. i never thought about where the active frames were for the throw.

good shit.

the edit system on srk pisses me off…

I got the Japanese PS2 collection a few days ago and I’m trying to learn it. Are there any major differences between the PS2 versions and the arcade versions of the Vampire games?

Is there a site or could anyone explain the dipswitch method of making EVERY game on the collection disc Arcade perfect?
