Yeah, I got sludded on lol. Good stuff to Slud-Boy for winning the tournament. Makes me hungry for the next one!
Results were
1st place: Slud Boy (Demitri), Milanea (Bishamon)
2nd place: Korey (Aulbath), TSF (Raptor)
Good stuff everyone!
Grand Finals were intense!
Nice to see a lot of newer players throwing their hats in. Remember, pushblock can save your life!
Well, I’m on day 2 on improving in this game. I’ve been using talbain’s OS RH a lot. I finally got a good chance to look at the wiki on mizumi.net and found out he had a command throw that also uses the OS RH :amazed:, I don’t know why I didn’t use it earlier. Guess right now I really need to improve on using meter, so I’ll try to learn how to land moment slice. Oh and defense, I suck at that too.
I don’t see a lot of players use wolfs command throw. I think its because the meter is saved for the EX hadoken move which does incredible life also, it doesn’t throw them into the corner like regular RH throw. IIRC after cmmd throw, wolf loses his pressure where as the regular RH throw will constantly give you pressure cause it throws them 75% screen. Moment slice NEVER gets used, stay away from it.
The best mixup game wolf can do is tick, throw then next time tick, c.mk EX hadoken. Even dumping EX hadoken randomly here or there is still incredibly good since that move can be made safe or @ the least safer.
as you learn more of his jump game, start working on his short hop game. You can short hop attack, land and combo or short hop attack, throw.
His command throw is fast and stays active for a month, no reason not to OS it with cl.rh, definitely a solid move… never never ES Command throw though. It’s ass.
Moment slice is good against players who can sustain pressure for a long time or run away really well, crossup j.lk c.lp c.mp slice does a ton of red damage, like… twice the permament damage of cr.mk xx es cannon. And he doesn’t need to save the meter for positioning or anything, he just uses it for his ridic combos.
Oh yeah, never ES flicker…
There actually is going to be a VS side tournament at this event. And it will get stream time.
We’re having another VS tournament in Vegas 11/13. Last time was six man round robin, will probably be the same again. Cool to see this game picking up some steam. Maybe my shitty Demitri and shitty BB Hood will say a major some day.
bump!!!
top tier japan has been showing up lately. If you really wanna beef up your skill set for any game, playing against japan in the morning helps a lot.
gg’s to all the new players, keep practicing.
I haven’t been on a few days because of work piling up. I’m interested in picking up demetri. I fought a few last week and I see the bite super is a huge part of his game and stuff like his drill being used a good amount. Though I tried him out against the computer just to test his moves, I’ll probably try to hop on ggpo when I have the free time to really learn him.
Fixed some of the clutter in the front page. * Added all the basic character combo videos to the front page of this thread check them out. Will work some more on anak wiki today. Sorry for the lack of updates and such. I have caught a case of the flu.
VS seems like an amazingly fun game. The fast-paced nature just looks like so much fun, I really want to learn and watch more, maybe not to be some gdlk player haha but to at least learn the game to have an intelligent understanding of it worthy of the respect it deserves.
Cool initiative you guys got going here, and it’s even picking up steam, very impressive. I wish the best of luck and I’ll see you all on GGPO.
Family Fun Arcade in SoCal is starting to run bi-weekly VS tournaments along side BB and GG. Today we had 12 entrants and everyone played a different character. It was awesome. Hopefully we can keep this going.
VERY good news, would be even better if more tournaments began streaming it too.
just picked this up last night, lei lei is so much fun. i’ll keep playing this on the side and see if interest picks up. this game owns tho
I didnt notice it on the front page, and I’m sure it’s not arcade perfect by any means but is Darkstalkers 3 playable at all?
Just picked up VS rom. Can anyone walk me through the ggpo installation processes and how to get games compatable with it? Seems a bit hard to set up.
First character I played was Demetri. Didn’t like him much so now i am playing Morrigan. Having trouble linking combos together though.
Depends, which version did you get and what console? The perfect DS3 is the one in the DS/Vampire Collection for PS2, it’s a near perfect port with all the characters. Either that or just get GGPO.
The PSX version suffers from loss of frames making everything much slower.
Go into your C: or wherever you installed GGPO and make a seperate folder called ROMS. Put all the games in that, then go into GGPO and adjust the rom directory to the ROMS folder you just made.
Some games require extra files to play but you’re given a warning in the room once you enter with the DL links ready. Just download those and paste them into the ROMS folder as well.
This game takes time to learn, you’re not gonna get it right off the bat. In my personal opinion the best choice for beginners is probably either Morrigan Lilith Demitri and Talbain. Also once you decide on a character, stick with them until you’ve got them down. Best rule to set for yourself is to stay dedicated to one character at a time.

Refer to this thread for a run down on every character/shit they can do, it’s extremely helpful. Search GamFAQS or some shit for the moves if you don’t know them too.
Darkstalkers has always been my favorite series but I’ve never been particularly good at it. I planned on importing the collection disc for PS2 to get more hands on with VS but other then that I’m pretty sure I’m the only one in my province interested in getting into the game. Looks like I’ll have to embarrass myself on GGPO.
Gotta start somewhere, and don’t worry, everyone gets their shit kicked in in GGPO. The skill level in the room is a pretty thin line. You have new people and then the pros all in one room, nothing really in between because most of them end up giving up after awhile.
Basically this shit will get you salty more than once, but at the same time it’s the quickest way to learn/get better because of that exposure.
