I think the stream at UFGT helped big time. Mar winning with Anakaris I think REALLY helped the feelings. Everyone in the stream was pretty hype.
No doubt. Someone winning with “the worst character in the game” is bound to make people take notice. It’s a testament to VS’s balance, in this game it’s more about the player than the character than in most any other fighter.
Ironic that O.Hawk also took ST the same weekend…
That was insanely hype as well.
VSav? In my WNF? It’s more likely than you think.
This is cool. I foresee good things in the future of this wonderful little game.
Darkstalkers has been suffering from a bit of an identity crisis. Back in its day, it was a pretty mainstream series (in Japan, at least) with about the same amount of fanservice as any other at the time. Savior upped it a bit with 3 of the 4 new characters being female, and the previous ones being portrayed slightly cuter than they had been previously. But once the brand more or less died after Savior 2/Hunter 2, Capcom seems to have decided that token fanservice is really all it’s good for, hence Morrigan, Felicia, etc. showing up in crossovers and increasingly having the cuteness, sex appeal and other such fanservicey traits played up to the detriment of their other traits. That in turn colors peoples perception of the franchise. Even with the recent rise in interest and talks of an actual sequel and such, Capcom might think that they have to continue on this route because it’s what people have come to expect.
So I’m guessing there was no VSav showing at WNF last night? It seemed to be all AE before I left.
And at above me: I can see that progression, and unfortunately, it’s fairly true. But whatever. That’s Capcom’s decision with their series. I just don’t want to see Darkstalkers portrayed as yet another fanservice-y fighter with some guys thrown in for good measure, because that’s what seems to be the perception as of now. It’s too unique for it to go the “expected” route.
I still haven’t gotten GGPO to work. I’ve always had issues when I was in a lobby since it wouldn’t let me play games, watch matches, and a bunch of other stuff. It’s been months though, so I’ll give it another shot. I really want to play VS with people.
o.hawk is no where NEAR the worst character in the game though.
it’s sick but there’s no comparison between o.hawk and anakaris in terms of character strengths.
I’m fine with Darkstalkers being cutesy and bubbly as long as they keep in the violence too. I like the disparity of cute lil Lillith SLICING YOU THE FUCK IN HALF.
WTF?? The keyboard feels great to use. I hate controllers… I seriously have to start playing VS again.
Would you be willing to teach a scrub like me? I need a training partner.
Yeah, isn’t O. Hawk like mid-high tier (his pokes are insane), while N. Hawk is like bottom tier.
Ha, I’m just now getting back into this game after years away so I’m incredibly rusty. I’ve essentially reverted back to just pressing buttons lol.
I think I have an pretty skill level, I will get back at you when I get a new Laptop.Summer jobs about, i’ll see.
But until then, there is always shoultzula you can learn from. He is the top ranked Q-bee in America I believe
Thanks, I’ll see you GGPO then.
I’ll take that back. The odd thing is that I’ll initially feel great on a keyboard, but after a while, my fingers will get all stiff on my left hand and fumble around so I fumble Tenrai Ha’s and the like. But maybe it’s just me and my need to get my fingers stronger lol.
Anyway, about the characters, I don’t mind them being cute. But what I’m concerned about is that they’ll become more animé stereotypes (i.e., Felicia becomes really stupid). But then again, Ono said at E3 that there isn’t any DS stuff going on at Capcom other than trying to get the game pushed through, so there’s not much point in predicting the future now.
So I’m guessing there was no VSav stuff on last night? They talked about it on the stream a bit.
Keyboards are good to an extent.
I can’t for the life of me do an SRK, 360, or a basic MvC2 reset on a keyboard.
I can get SRKs, but I can’t get half circles or 360s like at all on keyboard.
I’ve been playing RTS and FPS for years, so it’s pretty easy for me.
I change my control scheme to:
1 = left (ring finger?)
2 = down (middle)
3 = right (index)
c = up (thumb)
That way I’m using all my strong fingers (and thumb), so 360 motions are quite easy once you can coordinate all your fingers. A SRK is basically index finger (lift), middle finger (hold), then index finger.
That’s pretty ingenious for 360’s. I may actually try grapplers now.
Even odder is that I don’t have any of these problems with FPS’. It’s mostly just doing repeated motions and strings that get me sometimes. But I think that’s just a matter of getting the combos memorized.
SRK’s aren’t that bad for me (though I do fumble them sometimes when I get tired, at which point they come out as cr. Whatevers), nor are HC’s. IAD’s take a bit of practice to get right on a keyboard.
In short, I should probably save up money for a stick.
So is Sako still down for VS, if so when does it start because I don’t want to be late for some VS action.
