Normal pokes? Not really. Just Counter Assualt (6A+B).
Yea Bang is a nightmare for Nu if he gets inside, plus he can teleport from your D swords. Any other tips
Well Bang’s advantages is extreme close range which is Nu’s disadvantage.
I play Bang as you see.
Lets see here. The opposite side of the rainbow.
Nu player wants to keep bang out of close range obviously. But when Bang applies his pressure, Nu doesn’t have much to counter it as her moves are too slow. (2C is too slow)
So play the keep away game with her swords and 2C, etc…
Then when bang close, you can try counter assault or Burst. I will also suggest trying 2A when the opportunity arises. Be careful with the burst tho. If you have no or low meter, you already bursted, and Bang closes in for his close ranged assault then it could be big trouble. I know I try my best to close in when a Nu already bursted as a Bang player.
Also you can try to predict Bang teleport D move and possibly counter attack.
Vivace seems to get stuffed by 3C pretty effectively. I haven’t had it miss yet anyways.
Do you guys ever use Nu’s Counter Assault?
Yes I do. It’s saved my ass plenty of times and turned the battle into my favor. It’s a very good “GET OFF ME” tool especially for characters like Noel, Ragna, Bang, and Litchi who all have excellent corner pressure. It’s also good for preventing guard breaks and preventing being chipped to death when you don’t have Burst. Never ever underestimate the Counter Assault.
How do you guys deal with Bang once he gets his momentum going? Seems like once he closes in, it’s like trying to climb a cliff face to get him back out, and his nails make it so it isn’t too hard to do. And then once he gets in seems like it’s either burst, counter assault, or pray for them to make a bad jump in or command throw attempt, and none of those are really things I want to be forced to rely on.
I have some luck with swatting Bang out of the air when he attempts to throw nails from higher up, but TK’d drive nails don’t seem to give me any real options to discourage him moving in.
Anyone have any pointers for dealing with Bang?
anyone have any pointers against arakune? i played an incredibly good one online today that didn’t let me do anything the first round, and i only got him to half on the second. it seemed as though i couldn’t do anything once i had the curse on me. i’d barely let go of the stick and he’d already have me in a combo. just wondering what your best take on this is.
For Arakune, they like to keep in the air for crossup attempts and the like when they don’t have curse. Threaten with 6D or 2D and backdash a lot. This is where keepaway Nu comes in handy. They will try to crossup and fly until you get cursed and then they’ll rush you down. When you are curse, you just have to wait for an opening and attack, burst, or Counter Assault. You want to keep Arakune in the air.
I’m also seconding any tips for dealing with Bang. I just got my ass handed to me by a Bang player at a tournament. I got second place but it was the bang who sent me to losers in the winners finals and got me second place in the grand finals.
Bang can be a very hard match up with his mix ups. This is a match where you need to play as aggressive as possible. Know that 6D will unlikely hit. Most Bang’s will always high jump and use their extra air dash to close in distance and use a cross up kick. 2D is your best friend for stopping Bang’s approach in most cases. When they learn that that path is shut down (if they’re good enough to realize it…) then they may start using the giant Nail set ups. This can be a pain. Your best option becomes 6D if he does this, but remember he moves fast and 6D has a pretty good recovery time. You may want to learn to use 6A > 2C > combo in this case.
Let’s look at Bang’s mix ups. He has multiple overheads and low breakers. Not to mention large hit box cross overs. Bang’s corner game is very nasty. Remember he even has a command throw, so you’ll have to know whether to jump, low guard, or high guard against Bang if you’re put into a corner.
Never use your burst against a Bang unless you’re on your last 20% and in a corner.
If you haven’t, watch Arcade Fire87 vs TheDarkWall on youtube.

I have a lot more tips for Bangs, but Arcade Fire87 pretty much plays just like I do in a lot of situations. Study up.
Thanks for posting that. The advice and video were very helpful.
This is a tip for any match up. Use your C attacks like crazy, a IAD j2C > land 2C > 6C or 3C is an easy 1.5 bars of the guard libra. If you keep this up in your pressure game, they will become very cautious about approaching you, which leads to them screwing up and you punishing.
Either way, most matches end with them using burst and having around 2 bars left on their guard libra. Meaning, I almost have a free combo coming up while they’re taking 50% more damage.
Be EXTREMELY careful when using the said combo against Hakumen. He can use his counter inbetween the 2C > 6C/3C and get his own on you. In this case, IAD j2C > 2C > Act Pulsar > start some Ds
While I’m thinking of it, here’s another fun trick incase you come across people who go full screen and jump like a tard, waiting for you to come at them. At full screen, use 4DD at the proper timing, you can then Act Pulsar foward and catch them with 2C > jC > j2C > jC > j2C > j214D, and they’re likely automatically put into a corner for further mix up fun times.
