Utah Thread: Arcade Edition @ GameGrid

Yeah, teams may be fun, but they’re not going to be the main focus because we don’t have enough people or competition. Should be a side thing imo.

I think I’m going to miss the next ranbat… not going to be able to represent the Losers bracket

There’s a few issues I need to resolve. I’ll get back to this in a few days.

had

No full-on team tournaments, eh? That’s okay, too; I don’t want any foregone conclusions.

Maybe just exhibition-type material…like the girls tournament we had during 1.4 or something to rev people up for the main show. An 8-seed single elimination event…8-4-2-1, boom, done, 45 min-1 hour at the most. We use that much time getting everyone there and getting set up, anyways. 2-3 person teams, every member has to be from a separate region (Provo, Ogden, SLC or something) if possible, or just random draw.

No money, just fun. Top people get beat, just so everyone knows…or did people not see what happened at the last ranbat?

i dont see why no one wants to do full team money tournies i think they would be great have a draft like i said before with the top 5 people picking andrew would be picking last of course 2 man teams would be sick too i think the last ranbat showed that everyone is pretty equal and anyone can beat anyone after the regular ranbat season of course

Teams would be awesome imo… just like renzo said… everyone keeps improving so much(except for me) any1 can upset any1 so it would be really interesting to see the outcome!

We only have two more Ranbats to finish out the season. There’s still that leftover pot money to be dealt with, and to see who gets third place in that regard.

I think most people want to try teams, it’s just the details that are hairy. I think most people want them to start out as casual. Do something really light, then go from there to see what happens. Single elim. Have a draft, Andrew goes last, 5th or 6th or whatever place goes first, everyone hopes he’s not the digital fat kid, and so on.

The details are hairy. My suggestion? Next meet after EVO, do a team tourney on the projector. Have tons and tons of casuals. Record each official match and then no one feels compelled to watch them except for when they’re starting to get awesome. People can pause the game when the official match gets good. Dunno, just tossing stuff out.

But again: lot of it’s Andy, and it needs to wait a few weeks. One thing I think would be important is to get working on setting up a good structure in place for other people to take over should Andy die/get pissed/get sick/go out of town/want to not be in charge of every single damn detail for a change.
We’re not a business, and only one group is going to be in favor with P42. Something more group-oriented and well-structured is what I think would work.

Anyway, all on backburner. All of it.

I wish I could help more honestly. I would be glad to set things up to take some lift off an already busy doctor. The only problem is, I don’t have any or own the equipment so I just feel like all I can do is what andy tells me. I’d be happy to figure out how we could set up teams in a reasonably fair fashion. Hell, we could probably even use our top rankings we have now for the ranbats to be team leaders.

The problem is, I wouldn’t want to be all setting something up when its someone else’s place/equipment. I honestly wish I could help more. The only thing I can’t really help with is money and equipment. I’d even be happy to run a little mini blazblue tourney at our meets when thats out, KoF too even though its gay and will have like 2 people that even care.

Having some kind of draft and forcing teams, or doing it elementary school dodgeball style sounds even worse IMHO. But then if you don’t do that you potentially get really stacked teams because we really don’t have that many players compared to other areas, or you get people left out because they might be new and don’t know a lot of the people blah etc. We can try it if there is demand, but I don’t think it will last. Plus the ranbats are finally becoming awesome now that we have a venue and have aquired a lot of the hardware we lacked for the first couple of tournaments.

Very good points Matty. I don’t think it’s got longevity to it.

It’s just that after EVO, people will want a break for a sec.

I think for teams to really work, we’d need to get to know each other better and play better and have a lot more people. That is a ways away. May never happen.

I think that teams would probably be best suited for random events. Trying to do a season’s worth of team tourneys would be a bitch. Most of us work and even have family obligations that would keep us from being able to attend every single tourney, which would pretty much screw the rest of the team out of a placing.

As far as team line-ups, I’m starting to think that it should just be a matter of three of us getting together and saying, “okay, we’re a team”. I doubt our top players would really want to form ‘Team Unstoppable’ and just walk through everyone else. I’m sure that would be kinda boring for them. After all, they are top players because of the excitement of a challenge.

I agree on the postpone then we can have the whole gang and we can all cuddle

I don’t mind it being postponed. I need to get used to the game a little more.

Team tourney isn’t a season, it’s just a one tourney deal. We set it up, choose our teams (no andrew/brian/kelly teams lol) and meet up like we do now for ranbats then play.

Kick ass. Anyone wanna be on my team? You ogden players have seen my Ryu. Decide if it’s good enough for your team.

He’s right. Teams is a one time thing, not a whole season. People end up liking to pair one/two ppl they like for the most paart.

Also, seems Bobby/Johnny couldn’t get a car for Devastation. I don’t want to go alone, so I’ll be in town next week.

We will still be holding ranbat 1.6 on 6/20; I still kinda wanted to do it on 6/27 but that’s impossible b/c protocol42 is holding their monthly lan party the weekend of 6/27.

Ranbat 1.6 is goiong to be on 6/20. Good night folks.

had

We can have 2 man teams like the SBO qualifier. Makes it so we wouldn’t need as many people.

Yeah, if we do this 2 man teams is the best idea.

Run what? Also, I’m a pad warrior, biatch.

I’ve been getting pretty beat up in SF4 lately. Getting pounded online. Haven’t learned anything new. Combos still miss, bread and butters still not established with Dictator.

It’s depressing me enough I almost canceled my hotel reservation at the Rio for Evo.

I really need some kind of casuals or something. I need some real training. Competition is fine, it helps you improve. But nobody wants to really help you get better in a competitive environment. When I played my fighters back in the day, I always had an arcade to go to. Someone to point out my stupid mistakes, someone to show me how they get their timing down for basic stuff.

I don’t know, but I haven’t even visited the forum as much as I used to. I just feel like I’ve hit a wall, and no amount of running in the training room is going to help. :frowning:

Oh, and I don’t know why people think nobody is going to be interested in KOF XII. KOF wasn’t big in the US because arcades were floundering, nobody had MVS machines with the yearly KOF titles and the PS2 had laggy, nowhere near arcade perfect ports.

This here is going to be a solid fighter, bringing pure 2d HD goodness with solid, old school play to the next gen. There’s zero reason why this game would flop for SF fans. It’s fast paced, with absolutely amazing mindgames and less turtle friendly, which means = exciting matches.

I mean this shit looks amazing.

PS - If anyone just wants to do casuals, or help me get better at SF4 and would let me chill over for some games I would appreciate it huge. I’ll even get pizza.
