Utah Thread: Arcade Edition @ GameGrid

you ass

I really don’t care who plays who or how far I make it…I’m just here to play, have fun, and play SF like it was in the old days.

Matty…you’re an ass!

Hey, I’ll just give an early GG to everyone at Ranbat 1.5 along with some early thanks to Andy for being the doctor/tournament director. To all that help with the match recording, setup, take-down, and general awesomeness, many thanks.

Everyone bring their “A” game and don’t pull a LeBron…shake hands, bump fists, whatever…win or lose. You don’t have to like it, of course, but it’s good form.

Tru dat guys.

Sometimes you guys have to remember, some ppl never win a fucking match b/c they are always playing Andrew/Brian/Kelly/Jacob etc in the first round. I guess this is fair if this is the NBA playoffs or NCAA tourney. However this is UTAH SF4; it’s a competitive game but it’s a game; it’s about having a good time. I want some of the novice players having a chance to actually face someone of their caliber early on instead of getting youtubed.com 33 hit comboed on.

Please 5 bucks ain’t that much, if you are that deftly serious that you want a ranbat that’s seeded EXACTLY TO SKILL b/c you want to get the most out of your 5 bucks then I’ll do you a favor and pay for you. No big deal.

Whether I make top 5 or 2 and done; it doesn’t matter to me b/c I know I’m hellah good. j/k. I helped build this scene with the other guys to make a competitive scene but more importantly to have fun.

This ranbat 1.5 I’m gonna have ppl of the same location away from each other. But from there, it’s a coin flip most likely.

Number is 801 556 5356 if you need help with location:

Additional info:

  1. Someone to runout and grab pizzas at around 3:30. Means you’ll miss some casuals, but your entry fee will be free. I’ll give you some cash and shit to get it.
  2. Rudy thanks for stepping up and recording the matches.
  3. Remember guys, SF3 lasted for nearly 10 years b/c it was competitive and fun. I see SF4 with alot of staying potential as long as you guys practice and get better, and two, you just relax and enjoy it. WINNING IS HELLAH FUN. But really it’s a video game

had

P.S. Remember the first time you watched Old School or Superbad. Well The Hangover just fucked those experience in the ass. “Hey look Carlos is jacking off.”

lol i told u dood that ish is hella funny ill go run and get those pizzas cause im broke right now lol…damn dood now that i think about it were all one big wolf pack LOL

I guess I missed some sore losers at the last ranbat? Hahahaha… Personally, I think it’s kinda funny to see somebody lose, get mad, curse the game, and break their controller.

That reminds me… Dana, bring your stress ball.

I broke a TV once because of some bs that happened while playing Tekken. I am “Zen” now

GG’s to everyone i played on Thursday night.
Im not sure if im going to be able to make it tonight, i just had a friend get in a long boarding accident, i’ll try and show up if i hear anything.

ROFLOL, gonna pick up some shit at radioshack then have DIM SUM. Then i’ll head over to the Secret Garden.

had

Sheeit. Dim sum FTMFW!

10:00am - 10:00pm dim sum SF. Andy does all the cooking. Who else is down?

The odds of running up against someone “good” early on is pretty high now, random or no. No method of seeding can prevent that now.

To anyone: could any of these people knock you to losers early on?
Brian Andrew Jacob Kelly Dana Mike Andy Gustavo Phil Renzo TL John Matty

Everyone else

The point isn’t just winning. A scene like this ends up with some consistent winners. The fun is improving, changing. It happens slowly but many people have gotten better, and I don’t take just winning as my motivation but improvement.

That said, this is why I suggested that post-EVO we slow it down and do some team exhibitions and some hardcore casuals with a couple of king-of-the-hill stations where you get the chance to take on the people you’ve been gunning for.
It’d be a little easier for Andy, I’d hope.

Also, last time I played Brian, it had been over a month since I’d played him! I did a lot better against him than I ever had. And Andrew…I like haven’t played him in two months, not even casuals. Same with Jacob, I’m sure.

Random would be funner so I don’t have to keep losing to Dana and Kelly! I’d like to lose to someone else like Phil or Andrew this time = P

lets get this shit hyped and stop cryin peeps come on!!!

Im gonna make a prediction of top 10 this ranbat… Imma use GUILE this ranbat

Can’t improve much when you never get to fight almost any of the top placers. I fight Ryu and Sagat all day online. And none of those sagats play like Andrew. I never even get to fight brian anymore because he never comes to casuals except maybe the one time I’m not there.

honestly i dont see the problem with playing the top people early ive been dying to play andrew since our match at the first ranbat i like playing against sagat until he takes away half of my life bar with one tiger knee :frowning: oh and off topic question how much does an octa-gate cost??? i dont want a cheap one either i want a brand new good one

lol i cant even count how many xbox s controllers ive broken while playing halo 2 effing online host

I mostly just get sick of repetition in general so I bitch about things. Every single time someone says they’re going to take out Brian or Andrew but… It never happens. And I play all the time, so clearly I’m not going to get top placement because with the amount of effort I put into this game, if I had the skill I would be in top placement all the time. So clearly the only option for me now, is to either practice against the actual people I’m going to be playing or be forced to switch to a character that doesn’t blow ass. Gen’s all flash. Sure there are some good one’s, but its the same story as Cammy or Fei Long, there’s maybe one or two in the world, and they all have to work twice as hard as a top tier character would.

Maybe when they add T hawk, he’ll be like the new gief and I’ll main him.

And Andy got me an octa for 10 bucks.

I like T Hawk, he was one of my favorites in the past street fighters.

THAT’S THE RIGHT ATTITUDE. Exactly, why are ppl scared to play someone good first round. I rather lose 2 right off the back to hellah good ppl rather than play some novice until semis.

I understand Dana’s complaint of playing in the tourney against someone you play in casuals all the time though

But also Dana, you need to get your ass down to SLC more for casuals. I have casuals 2-3 times a week and they are always different ppl there so it never gets too bland. I know you got work and family but you should try to get here if the wife permits at least once a month. It’s really fun.

I’ll bring an octo for you if you are serious, but I recommend you try out Rudy/Nico’s stick first before you buy it. All myocto’s are new. . .

P.S. Thomas, you’re a nice guy, but you choose to play with Gen. No one makes you. Gen is low tier, no doubt. However, you don’t need to play someone high tier at our level right now to be good at our ranbats. You can play someone mid tier and still do well. Look at guile, chun, abel, el fuerte, and rose. They do fine at our ranbats and aren’t Balrog, Sagat, Gief, Ryu (no diss to anyone who uses those characters, b/c I’ve played my share of shitty rogs/gats/giefs/etc).

I know you understand all this and are not bitching at others but just ranting. Andrew/Brian doing so well b/c they are just at a higher level of play. But the gap will close as ppl practice. Remember Andrew is seasoned man, dude has been playing fighting games (like real arcades in california) for a long time.

If you get good with Gouken, who I believe is mid-tier you can do well.

I mean, it’s not as if the Provo peeps are always going to avoid each other…it’s inevitable that we’ll play each other at some point. Thanks for taking it into consideration, though. And yes, I miss the Sugarhouse casuals…(sigh). Getting to SLC for the Ranbats twice a month is just a little more than the wife likes, so until Ranbat season is over, that’s where I’m at. I do miss them, though…just like I miss Danny and Dylan. :frowning:

As for Gen…I go through the same thing with Rose. “If only I liked Ryu/Sagat…” but I don’t. Or the classic “If only I could juggle with (move) into ultra…” but she can’t. I guess that I don’t “play to win” I play to win with a character that I like. Take THAT, Sirlin. That being said, sometimes a change is good…Rose is my second switch (from Guile to Blanka to Rose) and I’m still enjoying the game, but it is feeling a little stale so I may end up going with someone else. C. Viper? E. Honda? It’ll freshen up the game, and make me appreciate it more.

You’ve gone from Abel to Gen to Gouken? That could be fun. He can be hard to use well, but at least now you’ll have a projectile.

Guys, that ranbat was off the chain. Mad props to Andy for hookin’ that shit up. I think we all did a good job keeping the place clean, too.

Kelly, thanks for bringing those sticks, man. All those old-school games I brought got more attention than I had anticipated. Would’ve sucked balls without your sticks, mayne.
