Utah is considering cutting the 12th Grade

But there are already tons of high school students applying for college.

12th grade was pretty damn useless because everyone with hopes of going to college already handled that shit at the end of junior year. However, since school is such a joke, they should create a much more intensive learning environment for students. Then they could pull this off.

but yet, he has 3 periods in his post. strange anomaly, indeed.

did you go to school in Utah? puahah

Those assclown who never pick up a book are the majority of the population unfortunately, so if you think things are going to be better by taking LESS time to attempt to educate them then you’re crazy. Its just going to be a bunch of stupid 17 and 188yr olds unqualified for modern jobs with a bunch of free time on their hands. What could go wrong there?

whats grade 12?

In germany you can graudate at year 10 and year 11-12 is optional. So why is what Utah proposing such a bad idea?

Changing shit is always a bad idea, there’s always some ignorant fucktards who won’t adapt and some genuine retards who can’t adapt.

That being said, over here we can leave school once we hit 16 regardless of the grade we’re in at the time and most people (like myself) stuck around for the last two years for no reason other than we were being bribed by the local council to do so, once that dried up I got myself a tasty 350/month in bursaries for university which I spent on booze, a wii, a new pc and a helluva lot of chinese food. I miss those times, they were the bright point in my otherwise gloomy existence :’(.

So yeah um, let this descend into another Obama-bashing healthcare bill debate. Gogo!

how does your argument for removing the 12th grade make any logical sense

they don’t have anywhere near the same school system the us does

He would know that…if he attended the 12th grade.

As far as I’m concerned, their college system is superior. Their college system doesn’t butt rape you with student loans. Also, my friend on here Tondashocka’s wife who is from Germany graduated over there, no student loans required, and she has a degree equivalent to a masters here in the states. System over here sucks major.

yeah our system sucks. I learned about a few different systems from other students while I was studying abroad. Europe has it awesome, from what I hear in France you can walk into any school in the country after you get out of high school. It doesn’t matter, you’re in but it’s up to you to keep up with the work. My friend said he paid about $500 USD total for a years worth of school. In the UK I hear their system is something like they take a percentage of your wage to pay back your loan (which isn’t too much) but if for some reason you’re not done paying by the time you turn 50, your remaining debt is just forgiven.

At my high school there was a program where top students could go to college after 11th grade and have it count as their 12th grade year. even though they were never there and they still graduated at the end of the year with their class.

Going through school with the option to get out early when you know you are going to college and have financial access to higher education is totally different than what Utah is trying to do. Yes i agree if you are already college level at 10th grade you should be able to say fuck and just apply for colleges.
But Utah isn’t saying anything about college they aren’t giving kids the option because they don’t need the extra year they’re doing it because it will save money. This isn’t about people too smart to be wasting time in classes where they aren’t learning anything they don’t already know, its about a state trading a years worth of education for 100 million dollars.

But the problem I see is how can people with 3 years of high school compete with students who have 4? More years mean more classes and most likely tougher ones. Would you rather accept a student who took 2-3 AP classes, or took 4-5? Considering they all passed the tests.

What is Utah going to do with an education anyway?

They’ve got like.
Grass.
Guns.
…Mormonism?

Like most people have been saying, 12th grade is fucking worthless. It’s a complete waste of money to keep students there who aren’t doing anything anyway, and like all businesses (yes our education system IS a business, especially our university system) you cut out the unnecessary fat.

While they are at it they should cut out all pre-kindergarten grades completely. All it is is publicly funded daycare. Pay for that shit yourself.

But iirc, isn’t the kicker that you have one shot at an entrance exam and that’s it?

Why are people still saying it like the 12th year is something special, people goof off because its the LAST year not the 12th year, if school was 10 year or 15 years. People would still not do shit in their last year. That argument is completely retarded.

NO MATTER HOW MANY YEARS YOU CUT OFF THERE WILL ALWAYS BE A LAST YEAR AND IN THAT YEAR PEOPLE WILL SLACK OFF, IT DOESN’T JUSTIFY GETTING RID OF THAT YEAR, BECAUSE THAT ONLY SHIFTS THE PROBLEM TO THE NEW LAST YEAR.

Most 12th grade students are always trying to cut their classes anyway. :looney:

the fact that europeans can go to school without taking out massive loans is a function of their socialist economies and the fact that they have significantly fewer universities in the first place. there are 2618 colleges in the country if we consolidated that to ~330 completely state funded universities (think every D1 school) we’d have a comparable system to europe…we’d also have an even more rigidly stratified class structure than we do now, in addition to the same high school suicide issues that japan and korea have.

Doesn’t seem like a bad idea. All the douchebags who don’t want to go to class leave and the remaining kids do something with themselves. I’ve made the most of my senior year so far, I can’t complain
