To be honest, it always combo’s really well against akuma, honda, gief etc so this wasn’t the greatest example, BUTTT the difference is clearly noticable against Ryu and some female characters as well. We can truly give it the “stamp of reliability” :joy:

Holy hell. Opponents might now be wise to fear a two stocks and Ultra packed Akuma like they would Ryu for example. Delicious.

The characters to try it on id a crouching fei and crouching Elena

Also can someone try close HP fireball on a crouching Chun? I got a strange suspicion this change might have affected that

Counter hit fierce still makes fireballs whiff against chun. Aside from that everything is about the same.
Can still do s.fiercexxfireball, into rh meterless, the distance doesn’t seem as specific as before, and cs.fiercexxfireball still lets you follow up with sweep. This also applies to Rose too.

Guys I tested it’s punishability some more.
I already confirmed it to be -4 on block from point blank., which is excellent.

HOWEVERRRRR, even if ken FA dashes the c.mk xx fb, Akuma is -3 instead of -4, which he used to be. This MUST mean they completely removed 1 startup frame and thus the hadouken has 1f removed of it’s total framecount.

Ken has a 18 frame dash and his EX dp is 4f. He can only punish with lp/hp dp.

That’s AWESOME against characters that have no 3f reversal and who’s dash isn’t faster than 18 frames (90% of the cast)! :wtf:
They all have to excecute a frame perfect dash and frame perfect light.

There’s new counter hit options if you’re psychic enough.
On Rose cornered crouched, CH cl.HP or far.HP xx lp Ball link to far HK. With the right timing and spacing, but that’s pretty much easy to spot.

And non CH, on Chun crouching in corner this one I haven’t found in v2012 :
cr.MP, cl.HP xx Ball, meaty cr.MP, sweep

How does akuma’s fireball now compare to ryu, Ken and evil ryu with these buff? I definitely feel the speed.

Does this mean we can now use ground fireballs in a similar way to how ryu would?

I muddle around with Ryu now and then and I’m finding Akuma’s new ground fireball game in many ways comparable to Ryu’s in Ultra/2012. I’m loving it. Spend a few games JUST abusing the unholy shit out of fireballs and see the difference it makes. This has been a very left of field buff for Akuma and I really like it. It definitely helps his lacking poke game that’s for sure.

I’m yet to tango with any serious Ryu players since v1.04 came out, so I’m curious as to how Akuma holds up to him in a projectile battle now. We have the variety edge (and certainly the speed to turn them loose) but Ryu now has that monster speed increase on his HP ball that is pretty crazy.

A mate of mine plays Ken and I found myself smothering him with fireballs to the point where he rarely bothered to even try to counter them. It was tough enough as it was before for Ken with respect to fireballs, but now it seems even more difficult. He has to work around them rather than take them on I feel, now more than ever. E.Ryu I have never considered a raw projectile threat to begin with so if anything I suspect we will have gained some more breathing room. The Sagat matchup will be interesting. His were nerfed in Ultra whereas now our standard and EX redball were buffed.

Its kind of interesting to think that Capcom might have given some thought to how badly projectiles were molested in Super onwards and decided to give them a bit of extra sauce. For a while there I was hoping for a 70 dmg fireball like Ken and Ryu, but this improved utility is perhaps better in my opinion.

You should be able to throw it from Akuma’s range AND Ryu’s range now. The buff makes it the best non-EX fireball among Akuma, Ryu, Ken, E. Ryu, and Oni. However, I don’t think you can rely on cr.mk xx FB in the same way that Ryu does, his poke is still superior.

I’m grateful they finally realized that Akuma needed something to compensate for inconsistent oki.

Yep. The reach, block + hitstun of Ryu’s c.mk will always be noticeably better. Though in terms of using the fireball on its own as a poke its certainly up there. I’d been getting decent mileage out of his new EX redball so tossing this new regular fireball into the mix is awesome.

Remember ages ago when Daigo used Akuma? And he was very fireball heavy? You can effectively mimic that style, only its actually far better.

Really enjoying this change in the Dudley matchup. Counter poking with two bars is always a guaranteed far roundhouse against him. Less reliance on far fierce too which means it’s not so much of a rock paper scissors game in neutral.
