Blanka’s still the worst match-up for Hawk, but all of his others feel improved.
Vs. Elena I feel it comes down to Poke-Fest 2014. Whoever can get in the best ones will win the match. Her floaty jump does make her an easy target for Spires & Tomahawks, though. Againts Gouken it’s all about pressure, and resisting the urge to Condor Dive. Haven’t really faced top-levels yet, but the Gouken’s I have face tend to fire off angled Hadokens, making it a little easier for me to get in.
I think hawk wins vs elena, her dp move loses to hawks cross up if you know the timing…
Blanka is a turtle match but still in Blanka favor…, use c.lp to shield from roll attacks and slowly close in and footsie, get the life lead and turtle and make blanka come to you and punish.
Dudley I think hawk wins… I had a high level dud player tell me hawk is a bad match up for dud after we had a couple of matches… hawk can just out footsie dud… c.mk from shoto’s is dud weakness and hawk has the same move, keeps dud back.
Rolento it depends, Rolento’s s.mp is not a good AA vs hawk. remember ex spire is good vs pokes. do hawk dives vs Rolento roll back attempts to escape.
Those are the same words I told combofiend about my thought on fadc tomahawk. Anyway it may not always land into the corner if the dive is early or an crossup.
A cr.mk fadc dash to ultra is cheaper than a toma dash to ultra. Also the opponent might thought it might be an EX spire and try to block. And I seen this been use on a couple of video. Never try myself though because I use ultra 2.
Anyway, I think this is added because there were lot of people wanted tomahawk fadc. So that they can say they “listen to the players”.
Using 3 bars for a Red Focus combo isn’t great with hawk though. Ex Spire is ridiculously good for mobility in this game so having meter for it is important. If you need red focus, then doing the raw one is worthwhile, especially if you land the level 3 version.
KOG is just too ridiculous for words. He definitely brought the hype but even he couldn’t get past Hawks bad mu’s in the end. First time out of Japan and first EVO ever and the guy almost gets in top 8 with Hawk. He deserves crazy props guys. Hopefully he gets to play a lot of casuals that will be recorded. America really needs to step their Hawk game up, we’re not even close.
Now that I’ve released my video, I can share the stuff I found. Poison is by far the best dummy for post LK Spire combos. cl.LP, cl.MP xx LK Spire, or jump-in to cl.MPx2 to LK Spire will allow you to combo into cl.LP into LP or EX Tomahawk, or another LK Spire IIRC.
No, you won’t be able to follow up the 2nd one. Only cl.MP has enough hitstun for LK Spire to hit meaty enough to allow for combos afterwards IIRC. Maybe the other mediums as well, but needing to combo into a medium prevents any risks of infinites.
Hey guys, just started learning some THAWK, because of his “gun.”
I’m trying to incorporate it more, so when is the best time to be using it? Frame traps?
Is it always better to cancel it from a cr. MK?
When I’m trying to use it, it never seems to be as fast as I’m watching it on stream/videos. Is it just me or is there a trick to get spires out faster?
