USF4 | Tier List Thread (updated October 2015)

Hugo is booty at low and mid levels of play, but far better than Dan at higher levels of play. That’s how I feel about it at least.

I feel like that directly translates to “much better rewards for good reads” and/or " ‘situational tools’

which kind of leads to high risk\high reward (hugo) to low risk/low reward (dan)

but hugo I feel isn’t really high risk exactly, just in a bad position on neutral for a lot of matchups. Can’t say I can articulate my impressions of Hugo very well.

Hugo isn’t as bad as some people think. The character suffers from grappler syndrome where he has a few ugly match ups, but I think he has more tools to work with than people give him credit for.

Juri, Gouken, Chun, Sagat, Poison feels impossible for Hugo. Also I have a hard time against Zangief… dat s.hk.

Hugo has some nasty OS setups that can mess up Zangief hard, though.

And you can switch it up with a MP claps that whiff but looks like it hits and do a grab after it.

Is it a Vanilla Akuma vs Balrog type of free on wakeup? If so, then thats pretty sick and I would like to see this in a real match.

You can block the clap and be -a billion. Balrog was just screwed cause demonflip throw is unblockable.

Akuma vs Balrog became free because of U2. Back in Vanilla Akuma had a strong vortex against him, but he didn’t have a one OS beats all.

cr.mk os is universal against balrog actually.

Every time I play Gouken, Sagat or Poison it turns into a meter race, just so I can punish poorly timed fireballs with EX Lariat. He really doesn’t have any other tools against characters that are zone heavy. Juri on the other hand I, think can be dealt with easily by just inching yourself forward and using the splash crossup often since it snuffs out most of her moves. Can’t really see why you have much of a problem with Chun, though.

I’ve played against decent Juri’s with my not so good Hugo, and it definitely doesn’t feel like an unwinnable matchup. Hard, yes…unwinnable, not at all. Then again, maybe they were just playing the matchup wrong.

Gouken on the other hand, have fun getting around the MP Hado, NJ.Fierce, EX Tatsu pattern. Only way Hugo is getting in is if the Gouken player straight up sucks at throwing well timed fireballs.

You are so right, gouken just simply can’t lose this if it’s a serious match anyway. I feel almost bad for hugo cuz that mu for my main is the easiest mu I think ever lol it’s literally fun to know you can’t be touched.

Well, Chun mostly just because her buttons are so good. Her S.HK & S.HP are a nightmare to deal with as Hugo. I try to bait it and use the armor on S.HP, but it’s a losing battle.

Speaking of Chun, where does she place in the tier list? Top 10, top 15? She has the footsies, Lightling legs loops and good ultra; at least, it seems to me she has a consistently good matchup against all shotos. Which are her weaknesses besides the floaty jump and which are her current bad matchups?

We’ve been playing Ultra for close to 3 months now.

There isn’t anything resembling a tier list.
