If you didnt have to be proficient at hayate cancelling to play mak id pick her up. I just cant get behind abel. Every time i go into training room with him it just doesnt feel right. But hey at least you got rico suave and haitani holding it down.

You don’t have to Hayate cancel to be able to play mak. It’s a nice bonus but you can get really really far just with sMP - sMP hayate or sHP - hayate. You don’t need hayate cancels to do well. The only really remotely executionally difficult thing you NEED to do with Makoto is IAAxe Kicks. Especially practicing doing NJ IA Axe kicks as well as Forward jump since if you only do FJ there are some characters you’re likely to jump over them when they crouch if you are close to them.

Oh yeah I forgot about those, same deal with adon yeah? his instant air jaguar kicks are a thing he needs to be competitive. I thought i read somewhere that doing her max punishes and resetting into command grab cleaner requires cancelling, but oh well my memories been bad lately.

I’ve been playing Mak for years and I still can’t HC for shit. Can do just about everything else I wanna do with her though.

You can shortcut the hayate cancel though. I learned this on day -4 super, did no one else?

Hayate cancels are so easy, what the hell are you doing people.
It’s literally doing a qcf while holding LP and LK. There’s no timing required. The hard part is just that the main HC combo, stHP HC stMP is a 1 framers, and doing the HC can make plinking it a bit awkward on your fingers.

O yeah, F+LK kara karakusa cancel is pretty tough too. But you don’t have to do it, you can do blockakusa with sLK or even just do a sLK kara karakusa but it’s slightly less range.

Overall though, Makoto isn’t super complex in terms of executional requirements. The hard part is remembering all of her setups, executing all of her setups (like her F+HK feint stuff) and positioning yourself properly in neutral with her terrible walk speed and super far dashes.

Honestly all I want for Abel is for EX Falling Sky to have a slightly better hitbox and more upper body invincibility so it doesn’t trade/get beat so often.

Maybe special cancelable fst.mp with a lower hitbox, but thats just so he can have cr.lk, cr.lp, fst.mp xx COD as a BnB.

Easiest way to do this (at least for me) is to do dp+lk then just back+k. It makes it so that you can immediately go from forward to back without having to tread through the down inputs, which is slower and may cause the karakusa to not come out.

What about this solution: adjust damage on COD MP/HP then make LP 13F so it combos from lights?

E.G.

LP COD 1st = 30 damage 50stun. Maybe make it -4F on block if needed.
2nd Mid = 30 damage 50stun (Previously 40 damage 50stun)
2nd Low = 40 damage 50stun (previously 50 damage 50stun)

MP COD 1st = 45 damage 50stun no other changes (Previously 35 damage 50stun)
HP COD 1st = 50 damage 50stun no other changes (Previously 40 damage 50stun)

You lose 10 damage on 2nd but gain 10 damage on 1st. Makes overall damage higher for MP/HP CODs (due to scaling) but lower for LP COD to make up for the fact he can do it from lights.

Ups Abel’s BnB damage without making it WAY higher like yours would.

crLK - crLP - far MP - COD would be what, 213 damage? I mean that’s reasonable but on the high side for this games average damage output from a hit confirm, especially a crLK. Also it gives him a really really good poke from mid range as sMP is 5F startup but 6F active and 80 damage.

Not against the idea. Just proposing an alternate way to change him that doesn’t change his options quite as drastically overall.

All I want is Ken’s target combo from eternals mod added in ultra. But the fs.MP to be changed to B+MP

Making abels far st.mp cancel would be too good , that button eats everything. He’s always had fucked up boxes. I play against a good Abel quite regularly, making his mid range even better would just destroy any type of zoning character. He could just OS cancel from it like Fei long. Big stun, damage etc …

Abels tough, he just straight up shits all over some characters but has a few real hard ones.

The sMP change I think would be fine if you view it from the angle of “other characters might get similarly strong changes” but if it’s viewed from the “everyone remains the same but Abel get this change” angle then yeah you’re totally right.

I think that is one of the harder parts about discussing significant changes to the game and why we got so few of them. When you are only able to view an idea based on it’s own merit instead of having the ability to stack them up against everyone else it’s going to result in a lot more negative views from those who don’t play said character. When Capcom did location tests often only 1/4th of the cast would have significant changes / buffs at any one time. So you’d have these 8 strong characters for everyone to bitch about because the remaining members of the cast didn’t get a similar strength change to offset it. Then Capcom adds said change the another set of characters while reverting the original buffs and the cycle repeats. Of course some characters NEVER got changes worthwhile at location tests.

If you had a buff list for Sagat in front of you and it had something of equivalent strength like far LK is 4F startup now and 2nd hit is special cancelable. You’d be a lot less worried about Abel’s far MP buff I imagine.

That ship has sailed. I doubt we are seeing any balance patches now.

The original kara-karakusa with st.lk has more range than the SF4 one with f.lk, the main reason you don’t see the first that often is because blockakusa is too good where touching your opponent with st.lk is required . In 3s was good on opponent wakeup (no backdash inv.,tight reversal window). F.lk kara-Kara has less range, but it’s more easy to land in mixups situations than st.lk kara-Kara. However blockakusa is better than both kara’s and is easy to land.

They already fixed some bugs in the latest patch i think, I doubt they care that much, once they’ve cashed in I see no reason for them to spend anymore resources for some bitchy gamers.
