oni/cammy easy

Nevermind it’s definitely Elena. Just crouch and 60% of jump normals whiff.

Cody and Oni’s AAs are def better than Rose.

IMO with only normals:

Sakura, Makoto, Oni, Juri, Cody, Gouken, Cammy, Dudley, Balrog in that order. Only reason Cammy is near bottom is that while her close HP AA is godly it requires proximity. Her crHP is also really good but very specific distances. Her walk speed makes her AA much stronger.

With normals and specials:

Oni, Cammy, Hugo, Makoto, Sakura, Gouken, Dudley, Ryu, Juri, Balrog

The weakest thing about Guy is the community’s general interest in him (as you can see from the flood of responses to your question).

One thing I also tend to notice is the characters who have the best air mobility tend to also have some of the best air normals as well.

I didn’t count command normals otherwise I would’ve put Dhalsim’s B+HK in there as well. But I like your ranking as well.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Dhalsim (as I assume most people did). His aa game by itself is really strong thanks to st.mk, st.hk, b.hk, b.mp, cr.lk slide, and EX Yoga blast all being pretty fantastic aa moves. However, he falls apart because his other tools don’t really allow him to abuse his aa options to the extent that would make him have one of the best aa games.

I think Gief’s Lariat coupled with LP SPD, cr.MP and close LP amounts to a really good AA game, tbh, haven’t seen anyone here mention him.

Overall I’d say Cammy has the best AA game though.

I’d have gief top 5 easy

Really? I always thought gief had some blind spots, specially with downards angled jump normals. Plus lariat tends to trade a lot (which is ok since he’s a grappler, but I dunno, in general not a good thing for aas). Oh and he lacks a AA > ultra.

I think you would also have to put Evil Ryu in this category if you’re going to put Ryu there. He has nearly the same exact anti-airs as Ryu. Biggest difference is that while his cr. HP is a little slower, it beats cross ups better than Ryu’s cr. HP does. Their are other minor differences but the most used buttons and specials for both characters to anti-air are practically the same.

I don’t know if AA normals are effective against air specials like T.Hawk’s Condor Dive or Juri’s dive kick, frankly i’ve never played a character with solid AA normals. And let’s not forget that Gouken has an air focus so multi hit dps are effective there.

Ryu’s DP is better IMO. EX DP fully invincible 1-16F and Ryu tends to get more damage on DPs since Evil Ryu’s are multi hit.

The one time ever that Cody’s HK Ruffian breaking armor is useful :stuck_out_tongue:

No mention of Sagat? He has an uppercut that trades in his favor, also has a kara uppercut and F.HK for long range jump ins. You watch a pro Sagat player playing against T.Hawk and it’s impossible for Hawk to leave the ground.

Sagat I feel has a strong AA game at mid - long range but I don’t put him that high because I feel his blind spot is right in front of him (no pun intended). He has trouble with jumping attacks that are too close for sHK or TU but to far for clsMP. I like to exploit that spot with Cody’s NJ HP/MK whenever I can.

Sagat should be up there.

Oni is probably the best though. He doesn’t have the range of sim or kara-uppers, but what he wants to anti-air gets anti-aired.

While it’s true that he’ll tend to get a little bit more damage when they’re not timed correctly both Ryu’s are still practically in the same boat when it comes to options and effectiveness, correct? Damage does matter, but the difference between the two is very small. 20 more for the MP version and 10 more for the HP version. Evil Ryu does get 50 more for the EX version though which I’ve never seen trade as a anti-air. Besides, if you anti-air correctly you get the same damage with both characters using their MP and HP versions(except for those far jump ins where ERyu would get 100 compared to 160 for Ryu). Just saying that I don’t think that’s a big enough difference to not list them in the same tier in that category.

Fair enough, I suppose they are equal then. I don’t think you could call Evil Ryu “better” but I think you make a fair point that they are different but equal.

hitbox on ryu’s dp is a little more horizontal right? or he moves farther.

I have a setup that beats e.ryu dps but not ryu’s hp dp, and he feels like he’s harder to empty jump

Lp Tiger Upper, not a lot of Gats use it though since their finger is fused to Hp. It’s useful for the likes of Sakura’s copter which makes the Hp whiff due to it moving forward so much and operates at that range you’re talking about. Gat also has some of the best neutral jumping normals in the game in mk and fierce. I agree though he’s not THE best but definitely has the most options out of everyone.

I’m not sure about Gouken on the list, his buttons seem to be highly situational, especially the cr. fierce. Fei long has one of the best AA’s in the game purely because of the motion of his Dp, also st.hk is a great normal.

If i had to give it to one character though maybe it would be Cammy. Cammy’s Dp can actually do a whole host of things that the others can’t whilst her small box and walk speed supplement it even further.
