Problem is that if you buff fireballs more in this game then they’ll be unbeatable. Currently they’re pretty weak overall, any tinkering and they’ll be too good. Capcom has often settled for the conservative route instead of the dynamic one (ex. nerfing Rolento, not giving Vega invincibility on EX ST).
IMO, focus attack is what screws everything up. Giving characters ultra and the ability to move forward without having to jump is huge.
idk if they will be that good…there are way too much moves with projectile invincibility for this to be really a concern or to even think how much impact this will do. It all depends how they are tweaked in the end
That is true. But Vega and Balrog are just an exception to the rule. Any character that has a fireball in ST can zone effectively and dominate almost the whole cast. In SF4, for example, many characters have fireballs but can’t actually control space that well (Dee-Jay, Ken, Sakura, Oni, etc…). You want to make fireballs better? Remove focus attacks or alter the amount of dead zones. Too many spots where you can jump forward without falling into an AA.
If you instead decide to, let’s say, decrease Ryu’s recovery frames on his fireball, characters might never be able to jump in on him again. It would be along the lines of vanilla SF4 with the broken fireball-super-ultra traps that he and Seth had.
I actually think Eternal summed up everything quite well a few pages back.
I wouldn’t even nerf evil Ryu. Just buff regular Ryu. There’s so many things they could have done with him and they decide they should buff his j.mp. Ryu players should have jumped off ship in 2012.
I think a lot of them wanted Joudan and that suggestion was pretty clear. If that were armor break and functioned kind of like Axe kick armor break and safe pressure (safest one -2 so it wouldn’t be obnoxious vs grapplers, I would think some of the complaints would be mitigated, especially if EX wall bounced or lead to big damage.
So give him something. J.mp xx tatsu isnt something. Donkeykick seemed like the obvious choice. Ive also seen suggestions like fake fireball, red fireball, hop kick. Not once did I see j.mp xx tatsu on that list.
The worst thing is listening to what players want. Balance changes should be made based on what makes sense for the game, not some stream monsters who come from a Call of Duty background. If it were up to me I’d consult strictly with the pros and nobody else.
I’m having fun with USF4 but its definitely a cluster-fuck of a game.
I think the fact that i can reaction slide a lot of fireballs with decapre’s 16f slide says a lot about how bad fireballs are in this game, and that they probably should be better.
You shouldn’t be able to jump at Ryu and have the risk/reward be in your favor.
Daigo makes close to $200k per year playing this game. He wrote a book about his life in fighting games and SF4. He jokes that he has so many different practice routines that he could write a book on that alone. He plays this game 364 days per year; 4-10 hours each day. He’s won 2 Evos, top 8 5 consecutive years. Most, if not all, the top players in Japan publicly state he is the best.
You don’t think he has done a scientific breakdown of his character? Are you crazy?
I think the problem with Donkey Kick is that you give him a midscreen hitconfirm into Ultra for 1 meter. Could be the biggest culprit for why they didn’t add it.
I honestly don’t think it would be that bad if he had it, tbh.
I think what he meant is that there are 2 types of players (and types of people in general) those who play off of feeling and the analytical type of person and Daigo is the former type of player. That’s not to say he doesn’t know some things, but not every player knows exact frame data or scientifically break down tools.
But going as far to mention his book…I picked this video out just for you.
I think only ex moves should have invincibility to fireballs and then characters should find other means to get around.
As for the donkey kick that was brought up early. Maybe they could change it so that it would send the opponent sliding across the floor instead of flying in the air which would eliminate the possibility to combo into ultra 1. It would just be a tool to reset the situation.
If you actually read the interview with Daigo, his reasoning on not playing Ryu seemed very reasonable.
He has a great feel, but he’s also highly technical. Have you ever seen him block? Dude knows what side every freaking setup is going to hit, and is great at blocking unblockables. I mean seriously.
