Smug DESTROYED Fillipinoman. It felt so good watching that
Did Smug have some kind of beef with Filipinoman?
The way he insisted on ending the first game was kind of weird.
I’d only do that to people I hate.
IDK if Filipinoman’s style is a good match for Smug, or if Smug just practiced the fuck out of the Rose matchup recently. AFAIK that is considered a good matchup for Rose, and Luffy made Smug look pretty free earlier in the year at Topanga World.
Its like Dhalsim vs Zangief. If Rose doesn’t play perfectly she gets rekd.
Luffy is a better player than Smug. Character match up in that case was mostly irrelevant. It also appears Luffy did his homework on the match up.
Smug is an amazing player and all, but I feel other players let him get away with murder. People let the name get into their head, before the match even starts. Players do not punish ex ducking like they should and not challenging his knock down offense. Look at how Daigo, Kaz, Snake Eyez and Bonchan handle that matchup.
This is actually one thing about Momochi I noticed happens as well, he gets mindfucked by mixup characters relatively easy… he’s gotten beaten by weaker players how many times?
Not true at all. Rose doesn’t need to place her pokes and space herself as precisely due to her fast-recovering pokes and mobility, she isn’t nearly as helpless on defense as Dhalsim is and she can actually go on the aggressive in this matchup. It’s generally smart for Rose to play defensively and zone against Dudley simply because her pokes are so effective, but she can switch gears and rushdown if need be, something Dhalsim could never do against Gief.
EDIT: Just watched the sets. Filipinoman basically played the matchup terribly. In the first set he gave up a lot of ground to throw full screen fireballs, didn’t hold down the neutal enough and spaced his pokes poorly and predictably when he tried to, gave up pressure in situations where Dudley had no meter, and refused to block. Second set was barely worth watching because he was mentally guardbroken and did so much worse, even when he abandoned the fireball game (and rightfully so).
I didn’t see Smug bring out any tech or tactics against FIlipinoman that he didn’t use against Luffy, except for FA fishing when Rose had no meter (a no-brainer, really) and EX Short Swing Blow to counter Spiral blockstring, which blew up in Smug’s face the one time he tried it because he did it as a read instead of a reaction.
Character knowledge goes a long way in matchups. Smug gets to play MasterMike and Arturo almost every week, who are solid Roses themselves. MasterMike has gotten the better of Smug a few times, but I wouldn’t say he’s a stronger Rose than Filipinoman, just more experienced in this MU. It was painfully obvious that Filipinoman doesn’t have comparable experience in this MU.

Anyone watch Infiltration vs Nemo at the chinese cup? Infiltration went for the hard counterpick and he couldn’t get the job done.

Great performance by Nuckle Du. The footsies, reads, reactions and adaptation from both players were very entertaining. Really hope that we’re going to see matches in SFV where players can express themselves through their characters and overcome bad matchups like this.

I’m only watching it now and I already love how Knuckledu goes for a dash throw to punish a blocked EX DP but of course that whiffs due to hitboxes.

ChrisG is on Best of III stating that he mas made an “example of” by being DQed outright for USFIV in KIT, while other players were allowed to hold up the bracket. Also says that he thought he could have made top 8 at the tournament if he wasn’t DQed.
