I don’t think he was in the right mindset this tournament, except for the Daigo match which he obviously got himself up for since he demolished him 3-0.
But I’m pretty happy he’s been regulated to the b league, that means we’ll get a lot of footage on whoever his new character is for Ultra whenever they do the b league for ultra, likewise for Mago and Haitani, of course if they switch.
Haitani is a fucking beast. Win or lose he comes with everything but the kitchen sink. The guy is unbelievable. Now reset the bracket against Xian with a perfect!
Haitani is starting to convince me with Ultra2
He’s abusing wake up focus backdash, and once people start OS it, you wake up Ultra2, the OS of the ennemy come out, and he eats a 500+ damage Ultra. You can even visual confirm the OS coming out.
It doesn’t take much to make the most out of Dan, he sucks but he is an easy character to play. There is very little about him to master, the rest is fundamentals.
Extended sets just make it that much harder to win as Makoto. She’s definitely a momentum based character like Cammy and Sakura. So asking him to beat Xian 10 times in a row was a lot. That said, Haitani showed what 3rd Strike Makoto was like. She didn’t go for any fancy SF4 mechanics, just in your face rush down with high priority frame traps along with sick stun combos. Seriously, that round where he Perfected Xian in 15 seconds was some serious WTF moment.
Was Impressed with Xian’s mental fortitude (something he lacked in previous sets), any normal player could have broken down after Haitani reset with that 6th perfect. Instead he went back to the basics of punishing dash punch, OS sweeps and good meter management. I’ll even forgive him relying on sketchy Oga setups for such strong fundamental plays. I just wish the 3v3 format was first to 3 in GF.
PS: Is there anything more terrifying than getting put to the corner by Haitani 5 sec into the match? When his yomi is on point Haitani just makes you his bit*.
PPS: In before Emil says Infiltration is done.
Infiltration just seems mentally blocked against Makoto.
Seriously, it’s not a match up you should feel the need to counter pick in if you’re an Akuma main.
I think Oni is a sane choice, though. More durable, more active frames on moves for stop sign use, good ability to convert stray hits into serious damage. Better coverage of that nasty divekick angle Akuma has problems with. Basically, regardless of matchup scores, Oni’s traits help contain Makoto’s volatility which is a huge asset against Akuma’s glass jaw.
WCG is such a garbage e-sports event and always has been.
Usually terrible conditions for the players, the casters are almost always ass and have no fucking clue about the game they’re commentating and the whole nations stuff trying to mimic the Olympics is just sad.
