Urien questions

Hello. I’m fairly new to using Urien and playing 3S. Right now, I’m trying to get Urien to a level where he can be played competitively. I hope it’s OK to ask some questions from you guys.

  1. How do I make my opponents duck? Crouching MK/Forward is a good move, but I find that it lacks combo ability. What do I do if in case it’s blocked or if it hits?

  2. When my anti-air sphere gets parried, can I still “catch” my opponent w/ a crouching forward or a crouching short (for a possible cr. Short, Short Tackle combo)

  3. What should I do if say, a Ken user is rushing me down when I’m cornered? I find that cr. Fierce is too risky. The headbutt also doesn’t do it for me most of the time. Is parrying the only solution?

  4. After a particular unblockable set-up (ie: throw, Jab Aegis, FP Headbutt to the other side then low Jab to guard break), what particular “sequence” should I use to be able to time my cr. Fierce to relaunch my opponent again after the reflector disappears? I can’t seem to gauge when I need to input the cr. Fierce after a couple of cr. Jabs in order to relauch my opponents.

Thanks.

dont do cr. jab, use forward+mk, then just c.fierce to juggle them, works like a charm

Jab headbutt is a pretty safe wakeup, as it goes over low pokes, beats throws, has quick recovery, and (if you’re really in a pinch) can be combo’d afterward (SA1, UpwardAegis -> tackle).

The throw unblockable setup is pretty ghetto. I’d learn the other ones in a hurry, were I you. http://www.shoryuken.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17888

If they parry your air sphere, you have a few options. You can standing strong xx jab sphere, you could standing jab them until they go away, you could throw out a 3p/Upward Aegis. All sorts of things are possible.

Crouching MK is just a poke. If it hits, yay. Do something else afterward. If they start to parry it, switch between that and standing fierce. Both are quick, and must be parried different ways.

Thanks.

A few more questions though…if you guys don’t mind.

  1. What does the term “meaty” mean? I always see this term used in 3S terminology, but I have no idea what it means.

  2. W/c chars can punish my cr. Roundhouse at its max range?

  3. Are there any “frame traps” for Urien? Like, for example, I hit them w/ a cr. Forward and they’re forced to guess between a grab, a tackle or another low poke from me?

Thanks a lot.

  1. Meaty means to time an attack against an opponent who’s waking up so that it is impossible to interrupt with say, a shoryu.

  2. At MAX MAX range, probably rushing supers like Chun SA2, maybe Elena’s Brave Dance. Cr. Rh shouldn’t be used too much anyway, so don’t worry about it.

  3. I don’t know of any “frame traps”.
