Updated SSF4 Akuma Matchup Thread (2011)

Focusing through limbs is way harder than it sounds. Especially if he is using lk/lp versions :frowning: :frowning:
Also his ex upflame stuffs a lot of my shit on wakeup what do i use to beat it?

Fuck it in AE im just gonna learn yun or yang for this douche, if i can’t get a hang of the matchup right now. Such an stupid match online. I dunno how gief players do it.

I’d just like to add that in the Gouken match up you should buffer demon into your c.hp when you see Gouken demon flip. If he does an air parry he won’t recover fast enough to avoid the ultra. I doubt this will work in AE though.

hi guys, anyone can share some info with guile matchup?

i know this matchup been done alot.

but lately i’ve been struggling to get the knockdown happening, and the boom with c.hp really keeps me from jumping at him.

anything i should take note on footsie range?

i search youtube for akuma vs guile vids. majority is guile(aceirin) pwning the akuma’s

just feel that this matchup if i can’t score a knockdown feels insanely irritating to play.

Try moving your focus away from knockdowns and zone the bastard out using lp redballs to bait/confuse and fs.hp to AA at the correct range. Eventually you’ll wear him down and he’ll be forced to attempt to advance. If you can get a read going on his booms, its often easy to score an ex flip grab to begin your wake-up stuff.

You won’t always score an untechable knockdown so maybe try reworking your approach VS Guile to not center around this as much. I know the vortex is effective against Guile once we get the knockdown, but if you’re only trying to score that knockdown perhaps the rest of your game is suffering.

The opponent also might be accustomed to Akuma’s bullshit which means you’ll perhaps need to figure a new approach out. It sounds to me like the Guile’s defense is quite solid.

Knocking Guile down is great, but I totally agree with the above post that says the best strategy against Guile is often to shut down his sonic boom game. A few weeks ago, I was fighting some Guile online, and he beat me a time or two, and then I realized that all he was doing was zoning me out with sonic booms. So I decided, “Ok, I’m going to focus entirely on not letting him zone me out with booms. If he beats me any other way, that’s fine, but I’m not going to let him sonic boom/fierce/air throw me to death.” I went from losing two straight to obliterating him several games in a row simply because I stopped trying to jump over his sonic booms all the time haha. Obviously, you have to be careful not to throw fierce red fireballs too close, but fierce red fireballs are good, as are air fireballs, regular fireballs, and ex ones, too! haha. If you can frustrate Guile, he’ll be forced to get close, and he really doesn’t want that unless you’re in the corner.

Be sure to look out for demoning his jump-ins and attempted air throws. I cannot tell you how many games I’ve won against Guile players by demoning attempted psychic air throws. Also, you can demon in between the two hits of his sweep. Another great way to land demons against Guile is to randomly demon after he throws a sonic boom from up close, because Guiles LOVE to throw out pokes after a close sonic boom and the demon will catch it every time.

New safe jump vs Deejay found by me yesterday lol, this is the easiest and the most effective way to jump on deejay:

Sweep, then just hold uf and do a command divekick. Deejay cannot hit you with anything, even EX upkicks get blocked.

this safejump works because normally, characters with 4F reversals should hit you out of this setup, but as DJ wakeup time is slower than the rest, that allows for the command divekick to act as a perfect safe jump for all his BS

Diveman, sweep, instant jump command divekick works on all characters aside from Adon. Its just very tough on 4 framers due to the fact that you need to hit the command divekick the moment you reach the height requirement.

true, my bad. I didnt know that.

can anyone give some information about ibuki matchup?

i have trouble against the normal kick, kick, sweep move…

  1. KUNAI
  • how to block ? meaty kunai and x-up kunai
  • how to backdash ? meaty kunai and x-up kunai
  • how to focus ? meaty kunai and x-up kunai
  1. her normals to watch out for during close/footsie range.
-her far light pokes. s.lp, f.lk,
    -slide gimmicks

    • backdash, ex dp, c.lk
      -c.mp
  2. her spinning kicks.

i get abused by those spinning kick alot. not sure they way out especially when cornered.
they’ll just throw out spin kick into flk spin kick again…its quite annoying. the most annoying thing though is her slide gimmicks. where she slide’s in and either backdash or ex dp. if done at the right range she might even go for c.lk.

frankly, all the character that have slides move have been annoying me heaps. guy, rose, ibuki for that matter. they’ve been abusing that normal way too much. and rose one is extremely annoying because she might be in range for grab.

Id like to add that your second setup also works against Blanka aswell.

how do you judge really really small pause…

doesn’t normal safejump from sweep beats everything deejay has?

Hey guys, is it possible to safe jump counter ultras?

If you’re talking about a true safe jump, then no. You’ll hit them and get countered. But, since you’re Akuma, go for a safe palm and you’ll break them.

Anyway,

i’m reposting a message that i’ve written months ago and that nobody has commented and i still have the same opinion that i want to share with you guys and get some feedback, lets hear it out:

Just played like 60 games in a row against one of, if not THE, best Sagat here in Brazil.

Nowhere in HELL this matchup is 6-4 Akuma. As for my opinion is definately 5-5.

Vortexes dont give as much damage and stun as in vanilla and, even though Sagat has also been nerfed in Health and Damage, his output is still greater than Akuma’s. Other than that, many times some combos must be stopped to lead to knockdown instead of damage, and your not going to Vortex a good Sagat every day so this knockdown doesnt lead to massive damage always.

That said, c.mk and buffered ultra on a sweep are one of the main keys against him. After the matches i just saw like 20 matches on youtube and i could see that, taking those awesome matches were the Akumas vortex the Sagats to death and it seems Akuma is a god in this matchup, i mean, when Akuma really have to make the game count, a lot of time is spent right in front of Sagat dodging his fireballs with focuses and punishing his attempts to jump-in or what not. The problem is that he has SOOO many tools to deal with this. He can break focuses with ex tiger shots or tiger knees and many times focuses are going to whiff against his long pokes.

If you can vortex him, you’ll win all day and happy.
If you have to play him, it’ll be a boring fireball war until he gets Ultra 2, then everything changes and you have to go in there and suffer to get the knockdown.

Funny thing is, i was just watching some Bonchan matches agains some top Akumas and i could really see them suffering as i just did, haha.

Sagat/Akuma is definitely 6/4 Akuma. Every hit on Sagat lead to UKD and he has a hell of a time punishing vortex. If you put him in the corner and get a UKD it’s free damage from all the wacky corner stuff on Sagat. Plus with the damage nerf Sagat isn’t nearly as scary nor does he have the same comeback potential.

Gotta agree sometimes.

Sarda, that sagat player was probably simply better than you. Gotta play very patient vs sagat

I feel like Sagat is a slight disadvantage too, but his comeback potential is still huge.

If he gets away with a simple Angry Scar the damage off a TU skyrockets. In AE he got +20 damage on every standard Tiger Uppercut too.

I think you’ve forgotten what it was like to fight vanilla Sagat. In that game his comeback potential was huge and from any hit. Now his comeback power is just meh.

To me it’s still huge tbh, it’s not like he doesn’t hit hard anymore. His damage output in Vanilla was just retarded imho.

He sure is better than me but i still disagree.

If you hit all the vortexes options on him of course he’ll get bodied.

But what happens if he blocks or evade your setups?

You beat him in the fireball war. Akuma doesn’t lose a fireball fight.
