*UPDATED!*"Quit lecturing me and show me what you've got!"- The UMvC3 Zero Video Thread

So Evil Toaster put up a video about how certain characters, zero included, can get an extra air action such as a second air dash. How useful do you think this will become? I personally think the ability to call assists from super jump could end up being really good here.

Kusoru showed us that calling assists at superjump height is quite godlike.

I hate being that guy, but isn’t that kind of old news?

I think that with most assist pairings used with Zero won’t do very much for him at superjump height. I haven’t explored Zero/The Coon, but I imagine Log Trap could get pretty ridiculous with two air dashes and Hienkyaku.

I have been trying to incorporate the double airdash thing into my incoming mix-up game recently, it can get kind of dirty with Hidden Missiles covering you. Once they’re in block stun M Hienkyaku can cross fools up in the corner, then they have to keep guessing because you’ve got an air dash or two stocked up.

that air dash thing is really old by now if you’ve been keeping up w/ the forums actually. And caslling the assists in super jump height is old as well. I’ve been incorporating that into my game after seeing kusoru play at final round. It’s quite effective with cold star assist.

Its kinda obvious when you go for the double air dash. I showed a bunch of people ( mostly top players ) at evo and basically they said they’ll see it coming and prepare for an assist punish because zero can’t do much at sj height.

OLD news… I love how someone else may get the Credit for discovering it 0.0… its toaster though and hes an og Zero poster so Not much salt. THE X FACTOR GLITCH I DID discover thanks to Marlinpie Though. He understands the fuck out of the game mechanics lol.

Im gonna start Recording Random stuff btw now so just request random shit lol

Whoever said Zero can’t do much at sj height doesn’t know Zero. Plus having two air doesn’t doesn’t mean you’ll use both of them or that both of them would be forward. No one’s going to challenge air-to-ground Zero and win.

I mainly use it with Sentinel assist and it works wonders that way. You call the drones and dash full screen at super jump height, and just dive down when they’re in the drones, free mixup/pressure.

And like I said in the video, that tech was more “forgotten and unexplored” stuff. I know it’s been done before but no one uses it. Which is sad because it’s very strong, especially for Zero and Spider-Man.

I talked to stone about it, Richard Nguyen, I showed my friend mine, all the Japanese, marlinpie, Fanatiq and others. They all said the same, at the height without buster you have to have a good set up and spaced yourself well and a decent assist to execute anything.

I know I’m a month late, but here goes. I only watched the first archive, so forgive me if you were doing something I listed here in the later archives. Ima just make a bulleted list so it’s easy to read.

Things you should have been doing less of/more of:
[LIST]
[]You should use more lightning xx Buster at super jump height. I didn’t watch all of them, but from what I saw, that was definitely something you should have been doing more.
[
]In my opinion, once you get 3 bars with Zero, you should go for the Lightning loops if you’re going to kill. I didn’t really see you going for loops much.
[]I’d use less dive kicks with Zero and more falling pizza cutter. Easier to combo off of, and it has just as much priority.
[
]I like to use ADF falling j.H when approaching with Ammy, as it stops crossunder mixups easily.
[]You’ve been playing Phoenix longer than I have, but I didn’t see you doing many ADDF j.H/j.S approaches. I tend to play her like Magneto (lots of high/low j.L ADDF cr.L xx overhead), but is playing her with more projectiles better when her hitboxes are so great?
[
]Bass Zero is low tier. Pick a better color scheme for your team like Zero (4)/Ammy (6)/Phoenix (alt or color of choice)

They’re missing the point. Reaching super jump height with extra movement control gives you a better method of setting up an air to ground offense. All the while you retain the ability to call assists. It doesn’t make it harder, it makes it easier.

Hey Ultimator I was getting to your comment but then my computer turned off and my reply erased. I’ll get back to you on your points lol. But yeah played a tourney on campus and had to go through Zero May Cry teams in Winners Finals, losers Final, and Grand Finals. This was the GF match. The very last match which I won got didn’t get recorded because my phone died lol. Enjoy. Sorry for the crappy quality /:

Your Zero looks pretty solid outside of those dropped loops. Could have sworn I was playing most of that set, lol. I liked that you were using Phoenix with cold star too, I might experiment with that later today.

But yeah, that looked very good, just practice dem loops a bit more and it’ll be perfect.

solid as always

Got 3rd at a North Florida tournament. Lost in winners to my demon in florida AD lol made some mistakes like going in on haggar when I shouldn’t have and same as well in losers side against ammy.

Like against Full Schedules team I think the thing w/ me is that I kind of mind fucked myself because I’m so nervous about getting EX seismo’d or EX thunder knuckled w/ an xfactor guard cancel or getting happy bday’d or something so I don’t play as aggressive as I should against viper and it doesn’t help that there is doom beam. Like right now he’s 2-1 in beating me in tourneys so far. But I guess I should have been more aggressive in that matchup.

yoo is this the same trahh that played melee? wuddup. also i think itd be best to just kill zero if you catch him lol. easy one hit and hes still got shit by himself/has a chance of reclaiming point anyway. also last time i checked zero midscreen continuation isnt that hard lol

Just watched the set against RTKO, the reset (or was that improvising on a dropped combo?) you’re doing on him after the backwards pizza cutter can be thrown if the player knows that you can throw Zero out of lightning’s startup.

Your team gets raped by Full Schedule’s team. When Viper snaps back to Phoenix, it’s almost a guaranteed kill unless he drops the confirm for some reason. The only way to get out is to use a phoenix rage, but i’m not sure if he can EX seismo through it.

The Viper matchup is one of Zero’s hardest imo…if she can predict what you’re going to do next reliably, then you’re going to get destroyed by her.

But really solid play from the looks of things. Only other advice I can give is to go for more Lighting Loops instead of burning 2 bars to kill a character.

The one I did against RTKO was a reset lol. And yeah no one has ever thrown me out of it lol. And I actually stole that reset against Tayson haha. He used to do that in vanilla marvel when we played together and I decided to implement that. I don’t use it very often. It’s usually situational though. But that’s good to know that you can throw Zero out of it.

And yeah his team is such an uphill battle to climb for my team especially w/ out some type of beam assist or missles assist to keep viper from moving around alot. And yeah in our previous tourney match I was able to block his incoming snapback mixups w/ phoenix somehow but it’s really hard you know so I either have to get lucky that he’ll mess up or I can guess/react to his high low mixups. And I try not to airdash up w/ phoenix because he can do the seismos on incoming and I can get hit by it but I don’t think he ever did it during our tourney matches this time lol.

And yeah I’m pretty sure EX seismo has enough durability to go through.

Yeah, not a good idea to use Tayson’s “tech”. It might work the first time, but a good player will start punishing it after that.

I don’t really know the Viper matchup that well - which is why I’m tempted to play her on the side, to learn what her weakness are (if she has any…).

I’m not sure how you move backwards but definitely work on backwards plink dashing/backwards crouch cancel dashing, its Zeros only form of quick movement on the ground when trying to make space or get away. Really solid for patient/keepaway Zeros like yours.

I can understand not doing it though against some of those matchups because you can get sniped for it really easy since its hard to react and block against EX TK or Grapples if you’re plink dashing. Also its a bitch to plink dash with Zero due to having to charge buster while doing it, probably a nightmare on pad.

Also would have been nice to see more TK Hienkyaku Ls for instant overheads when you have then pinned with Cold Star, saw a few occasions where you just kept going low and your opponent had no reason not to just low block.

Not gonna knock you for those matches against Full Schedule cause the pressure he was putting out looks pretty rough, but doesn’t proper pushblocking beat that Focus setup? I guess it looked like it was was delaying the setup to catch your airdash or make you miss the pushblock timing, I have Zero experience playing against Viper so I can’t help much there =/. Also in my mind I was wondering why you didn’t Sougenmu to LL Ammy and burned 3 bars instead but I then I remembered i’ve never even practiced that myself haha.

Anyway good stuff either way, I liked some of those side switches you had with Ammy, I gotta work on those myself, my execution is so finnicky on P2 side with loops
