I’ll try and make it even though I don’t really play SF4 at all, if only to support the effort you guys put forth. Too bad you can’t postpone it for a few weeks to get a bigger turn out, then you could have promoted it as the last big tournament before school starts for those around that age.
I’ll get in touch with the Ottawa guys and let them know about it as well.
I will always be straight up and honest with the community, I have no secretes to hide.
your math is correct it only 60% of the prize pool is going to cash, the TV is worth almost 2k when you factor in taxes and shipping (if you bought it online). which even if you sold it that day and walked into a pawn shop you would probably walk away with more than you would from a regular Pownz Tournament.
I weighted it and I thought it wouldn’t be too outlandish for Pownz to generate some revenue for the event from the prize pool because even though Toshiba has provided the prizes they arn’t covering the cost its going to take to market this event in such little time.
But I am a gamer like everyone here; if the community thinks that what I did was sleazy and unreasonable then tell me and though its far too late to change it , I won’t make that mistake twice.
Nah, the grand prize is a freakin’ 42 inch TV. I’m pretty sure the value of the TV itself makes it fine that you want to take 40 percent of the prize pool.
Chris; honestly don’t even give a second though about the prize money. People are fucking out of their minds if they want to bitch about a few bucks when there’s a 42" LCD on the line. They’ve got no perspective or they’re just fucking greedy. The cut POWNZ is getting is perfectly fine, don’t let people tell you otherwise. If they hate it that much they can sit at home and not watch the big TV people with a little perspective will get to enjoy.
BTW if you have to be 18 to win this thing I think Mosh just got owned.
you have to be 18 to claim the prize, if your under 18 you have have to get a guardian to sign a wavier into their custody. Legal stuff x.x
Also you have to be the minimum age of the ESRB Rating of the game to be able to participate (got to be full legit on this lol…) . The game is rated T for Teen which is ages 13+.
Kymah’s a dickhead, what you are doing is helping the community by hooking us up with INSANE deals, that TV is one of the few lagless HDTVs out there on the market!
I think the majority of us appreciate the fact that you will take 40% of the pot just to break even or help pay off for the TV since, its not exactly a cheap TV.
omg; you losers really will speak shit of anything, wont you? Chris (Drekken) has done so F***ing much to get this deal. Where the hell else do you see such a good grand prize? Sure, he’s taking a little money for POWNZ, but so what? You still get as better deal, and you shouldnt dss Drekken anyway. Dude has done SO much to aid this community. He secured the busines that got the TV. He has to keep a business mind as well. Anyone in any other business makes a wicked deal, they get some of the dough, so why the hell shouldnt Drekken?
End of the day, youre being disrepectful, so shut your ignorant faces. Those whoe dont like the deal, dont come - we dont need such cocks anyway. Mad respect for Drekken. Dude is a legend.
Here is the bottom line. Drekken and I are trying to bring the best to the SF community. There are VERY few people willing to stick their necks out for the community and give an honest effort to make things happen.
I understand there will always be gripes and disappointments when everyone doesn’t get what they want, but you have to look at the big picture. Does everyone want to have the SF community stay where it is, or do we want to innovate and go places?
Guys like Gootecks, Mr Wizard, Seth Killian and Ono-san are all testaments to people who have a TRUE passion for the game and what they do, and take every chance to show it to everyone. However they can’t do what they do with out the support of the community.
When Street Fighter IV came out I made a personal decision to change the face of the Street Fighter Community in Canada. To show the world that Street fighter/fighting games/video games are no joke and really are the future of competitive entertainment. I think deep down inside the majority of us have that inside of us.
All we’re asking is for your full and complete support for this event. The success of this event is going to open SO many doors for all of us. EVO is the living breathing epitome of this. We can make things like this happen more often and keep making them better, but with out community support this can not happen.
So Please if it is in your schedule, if you can travel. PLEASE support this tournament so we can bring you more in the future. POWNZ/Drekken and crew are doing things I never thought were possible for our community. They deserve your utmost respect and full support.
THIS IS THE FUTURE OF STREET FIGHTER. THIS IS OUR FUTURE.
