Updated HELLBOY

I did this a while ago, and just found it again today.
there’s something about this one i love. Everyone else seems to love it as well. Something is lost in the scan, but i still thought i would share it with you all.
It was actually a scrap paper that i was using to dap off brushes while working on another watercolr…but then i went with it.
Unlike my other stuff there’s no pen here.
Crits welcome.

ok last one for today…

Wow, those are awesome!

I can’t watercolor like that [i.e. detailed, not runny] for beans. Good show.

very cool

This is a good time to tell my story on how I once tried waterpainting during the days of my early youth and ended up creating the most distusting cesspool of shit that I have ever seen.
yeah, good job.

How did you do the first two? Watercolor first and ink later?

no ink on the first one but the second two were watercolor then ink.

Very awesome idea I dunno why Ive never thought of that. Ever watercolor any SF characters?

Thanks for the tip. How long have you been working on watercolor?

i’ve dabbled in it for a few years, but wouldn’t consider myself pro level. i’ve done a dirty mbison.

Yes Yes!

haha no offense he looks so happy and nice great job. definitely post the others up, if i had the time id make this my new art style. cool to see that not everything posted up these days are done in photoshop.

Just wondering about the years because Id like to get decent in it.

i really just messed around you could be better than this in weeks/months if you go at it.

Ah cool. Forgot to ask, did you ink the Bison first or watercolor?

Damn is anyone else interested in the ink + watercolor idea or is it just me? I usually hate plain watercolor, and plain ink has been done. The combo together is nice, outlining the randomness of the watercolor blotches.

i pretty much always ink last
here are others i have posted before.

Ah damn, then the dark coloring of

  • Bison’s crease mark by the mouth
  • Nostril
  • Shading of the collar

Was done pretty concisely. I wonder if thats hard to do since most watercolors I see dont use such dark colors and for such concentrated dark colors the watercolorings bleeds. Must be the amount of water you use then.

just mix a neutral gray (never use black) and use less water and more paint. also use more than one layer. Dry your water colors quickly using a blow dryer. just make sure you don’t have full drops or it will blow around the paper and streak…like the blood on captain america up there. I actually got that effect on purpose dropping water down and blowing it with a straw. it’s like a controlled chaos… you have some control doing that but not tons…but the out come can be awesome.

cool watercolor tips! thanks RabidWombat.

Love the kuma bear. Anyway thanks for the tips. Ive heard controlled chaos talking about watercolors before as well. Must be a popular phrase.

I love you guys for loving Hellboy as much as I do! Awesome water color! 07/11/08!!!

7/11/08? huh?
hellboy rules

lovin the watercolors. They were always one medium I could never get the hang of. I always envied my mom’s skill with them. I may have to give them a go again sometime soon.

think the 7/11/08 is the date for hellboy 2.
