Upcoming Site Improvements

While definitely a trollish question, looking at the trend is interesting.

Here’s the estimated pageviews from Alexia for the trailing six months (as of the time of this post):

Note:
[]The graph above is in % of total pageviews of the web. While not absolute numbers, the delta is still in a downward trend (see the 7 day/1 month/3 month table to the right to show percentage drop).
[
]About 30% of this is from the forums. Even if all of the traffic to the forums were to go away, it wouldn’t lead to what seems to be an almost 50% drop in overall traffic to the main site. However, it doesn’t allow you to split out exactly what traffic is coming from which subdomain.
[]Alexia is an estimate and SRK keeps it’s numbers to itself last I checked (not sure why, most large sites publish their pageview numbers, regardless).
[
]Whether or not the estimate above is attributable to changes in the forum or for other reasons are not possible simply from this data.

Just out of curiosity, exactly what was causing the avatars to be so blurry when enlarged? Was it a programming error and if so, how did you guys debug it?

And I’m still trying to figure out how to change the title below my avatar.

I actually already did and no cake - went searching for the config statement in the core afterwards and couldn’t find it.

I was using a constructor (http://php.net/manual/en/language.oop5.decon.php) to alter the thumbnail config (they’re 40x40 by default for optimal performance) but for some reason it was ignored by Garden (the framework upon which Vanilla is built). I had Lincoln, one of the core programmers, debug it and I don’t think he ever found out what was going on. In the end, he did find a way to manually override the config which worked out.

Input icons in combo threads are still a mess. L is now light instead of left, R has disappeared, SNKA, B, C, D don’t exist at all. Why couldn’t the code be standardized and kept the way it was?

Left = :b:
right = :f:

is there a reference for what code works and wont work? I’m kinda shooting in the dark here reformatting. {size} doesn’t seem to work and list only works with {list}{*}

and rewriting my thread, the tall pngs for directions really make it awkward:
[]sjc.:u:+:h:, :qcf:+:l: (land), :qcb:+:l:, :s:, sjc.:d:+:h:, :qcf:+:l: (land), :s: (optimal, body must slightly fall after :qcb:+:l: and :d:+:h: must be done ASAP)
[
]sjc.:h::u:+:h;, :qcf:+:l: (land), j.:u:+:h:, :qcf:+:m: (land), dash, :qcb:+:l:, :s:
[]sjc.:u:+:h:, :qcf:+:l: (land), j.:u:+:h:, :qcf:+:m: (land), dash, :qcb:+:l:, :s:
[
]sjc.u+H, qcf+L (land), j.u+HS (land), qcf+L, s.HS (good for awkward characters and confirms)

sjc.u+H, qcf+L (land), j.Mu+H, qcf+L (land), s.HS
Vertical spacing and kerning in text goes to hell and harms readability and over all presentation despite the assets being very nice.

The pngs for directions have unused negative space, this is causing them to float to high and push surrounding objects away more than needed… That needs to be trimmed out so that the arrow in all directions will be flush with the edge. They should then be resized so that the outer circle is the same size as the attack notation circles. The attack circles should have enough padding to vertically center with the notation icons to avoid a constant height change.

can I has search for a specific thread?

I get it, but why make everyone have to rewrite their threads instead of just using the same code? Unless that change happened before the forum transition and I missed it.

Fortunately, it’s a relatively minor change. I don’t think too many threads will suffer much from it.

@Celerity for the record, we’ve been using Forward for :f: and Backwards for :b: for the longest time now.

EDIT: We’ve also been using Light for :l: for the longest time now as well, at least since 2010 when we made the first MvC3 combo threads.

Fair enough then, I’m just old.

Still need ABCD back though.

I’ll trim and resize the icons ASAP. Simply added them directly from the wiki in good faith :smile:

P.S.: Regarding icons I’ve missed, please post a link to these along with their shortcut (:whatever:).

@ifbpwnstar: Is this better http://shoryuken.webhutt.com/discussion/3/testing-resized-attack-icons?

P.S.: These are all the icons I’ve included (hover them for a couple of seconds to reveal their shortcuts)

:3k: :3p: :360: :a1: :a2: :alpha: :atk: :b: :beta: :d: :db: :df: :dp: :f: :gamma: :h: :hcb: :hcf: :hk: :hp: :k: :l: :lk: :lp: :m: :mk: :mp: :n: :p: :qcb: :qcf: :rdp: :s: :u: :ub: :uf:

I’d say a big part of the drop is that there has been very few majors in the recent past while a few months ago, you literally had majors every weekend.

What’s the story on Best Of? Previously we had a “most recent post” list on the right in that table: I feel like that may work better than Best Of.

Yes, they could even be a little bigger, but now they are readable and don’t disrupt verticle spacing and kerning. Thanks!

Any way to get our bookmarks showable on mobile?

Avatars are fixed. Thank you based god.

Now…how about this “notifications” thing? There’s got to be a better way. I shouldn’t have 250 notifications within the span of 5 hours.

Also Tapatalk is still AWOL.

They look decent enough. However, if you csn give me a couple of days, I can come up with a simpler, more refined looking batch of icons.

The changes are coming along regularly and relatively smooth.

Quick question, is anybody else using the Dark Theme getting these flashes of the Light Theme, as soon as you load up a page? It’s kind of bothersome at night since I have these random flashes of bright pages trying to blind me.
