That, I seriously doubt, especially considering the fact that neither the Dreamcast or its games were ever that popular to begin outside of hardcore gamers/arcade gamers/fighting game fans.
Anyone who was selling bootleg games at that time would have been focused more on the PS1 which further proves my point as it was pretty easy to do on that console and there was never any harm done to it by bootlegging. The same can be said for the PS2 and Xbox, both of which had very large mod communities when CD and DVD recordable became affordable to the mainstream/included with PCās, broadband became more prevalent, and P2P had really taken off.
gotta agree on this one. I found the story to be too confusing and I even watch Sci-Fi and understand all that stuff! For some reason I just canāt get into or follow the story on HL and HL2.
I guess you could say it was the first of itās kind to go that far, in terms of graphics and exploration. The conversational aspect wasnāt as developed as western games but it was still pretty good. The combat was essentially a stripped virtua fighter. Length was pretty good so all in all it was the best cinematic game of itās time. The next game to beat it in my recollection was Grand Theft Auto 3.
This. Omfg this. Not to mention all the said systems, sub-systems and character creations are ALL the fucking same. Just different environment/main characters. The dungeon layouts arenāt unique and character stacking is the stupidest fucking thing ever.
If youāre talking strictly about Sonicās own levels, then hell yeah, that game was great. Everyone elseās never passed beyond the āitās okayā rating for me, but overall, one of my favorite Sonic games ever. Shit, dare I say itās my ALL TIME favorite? Bring on the hate.
Pretty much what I think, and not just because I like MGS.
ā¦'cause itās funny to beat a dead horseā¦I thought Shenmue was in the āso terrible itās funnyā category, though Iām sure I posted commentary on that before. The first time I saw a friend playing thru, it was cracking me upā¦nonstop comedy, this game. It would be the perfect game for a games version of a Mystery Science Theatre 3000 type of show. Even the Xplay review of it was hilarious to me, when they cut together all the thousands of times Ryo has to ask people about sailorsā¦
āhey, did you see those sailors? Know anything about sailors? Iām looking for info on some sailorsā¦did you hear anything about the sailors? Iām trying to find out about some sailorsā¦where can I find those sailors?ā
Then there was the bit with the job, where Ryo has to push boxes around a warehouse, and that supervisor is constantly barking out orders about the boxesā¦I still laugh when remembering that and so many other little things about the game. I shouldāve bought it just because it was so amusing to me. Comedy.
Seriously. There are some pretty die hard fans of the series, which makes it even funnier. Iāve seen Shenmue being labeled as game design perfectionā¦
God damn gamers will latch onto anything, long as it makes them hardcore/underground/or dare I say ācoolā
QTE is one of the worst things to happen to video games, KH2 was choke full of that button mashing-gameplay dumbing shit. Which I hope, is not the case for FFvXIII seeing how itās being developed by the KH team.
I love Shenmue. I liked how it really tried hard to get a real world atmosphere. People would be at different places at different times of day. Different weather, time and day. The fighting system was NOT turn based, VF system. QTEās made cinematics more engaging. Learning new moves from allies and lookin at ur VMU was cool. Love the little touches in the game like the arcade with classics. I loved the story too, it was simple but the characters made it deep. The english dub was real bad but I found it amusing and laughed at times.
Ryo will ask the same generic question to anyone depending on what needs to be done. And the english dub didnāt help at all. It was cool though how you didnāt have to read boring text. It took RPGās to the next level. The time the game came out the graphics were insane. Shenmue 2 even pushed it further with a deeper story, and improved on everything the first failed at. Shenmue will always be hated though, but I love it.
My big problem with Shenmue (DC) was that Ryoās expression never changed. I looked at his lifeless face for a few minutes and just stopped playing forever.
