You do realise that lots of RPGs are not focused centrally on the narrative right? This is not to say that the plot is unimportant, my dispute was that certain genres (well, really only one) would depend on narrative progression much more than RPGs, and by certain genres I really mean Point and Click Adventures.
Also, if you’re focused too much on an RPG with a focus on story, you’d miss out on lots of gems. =\
personally for me nowadays i only play games i can play with or against my friends or online, if i play anything else the gameplay is a strong plus that strings along a good story. thats why i dont play RPG’s anymore its just full of bullshit chit chat that strings along a fun solo gameplay
chrono triggers dialog isnt full fledged like other games but the world and the way you can manipulate it gives you a true sense of actually time travelling, which makes its whole world an interactive story. the best zelda games has this quality too
i dont play many RPG’s anymore because they just arent as good as final fantasy’s best, they’re just anime novels with gameplay tacked on. but a game like Digital Devil Saga has a MANGA quality to it, which is head and shoulders above any pop infused anime RPG.
correct me if im wrong though, i honestly want a good reason to play a “good” RPG 
By saying anime novels with gameplay tacked on, I am given the impression that you’re missing out on a lot of RPGs.
Try for the PC - Fallout 2, Planescape: Torment (this in particular has an exceedingly strong narrative), Arcanum, Mount and Blade (my game of the moment), Wizardry 8.
For PS2, a few I can recommend are Summoner 2, Wizardry: Tale of the Forsaken Land, and Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter (good visual direction, minimalist approach to story).

Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter was the best BoF game, IMO.

and all those RPG’s on ps2 dont hold my attention, partly because the visual style of the world even down to the menu of western RPG’s make me want to hang myself medievil style
as for dragon quarter, havent played that yet 
all western RPG’s just remind me of rehashes of Tolkien’s imagination (shit lotr is fucking EVERYWHERE)

Celes was NOT the main character of the second half of FF6. Her storyline importance ended somewhere around the time Setzer joins you, with the exception of little moments with Locke after the Phoenix Cave and in the ending. Terra remains the game’s most important character, especially in the ending, even if you don’t re-recruit her (since she joins anyway).
More RPGs need ensemble casts like FF6. That way, if one character has a particularly grueling, uninteresting story (Cloud) you can just follow another also-well-developed character. The only downfall is generic dialog, since devs are lazy and don’t want to give every character appropriate dialog for every situation.
Dirge of Cerberus sucks hard, but it at least gives the option for a keyboard and mouse. Console FPS games don’t allows this more often… why, exactly?

Megaman 9 having NES graphics is bullshit. Yes, gameplay makes or breaks a Megaman game, but there’s a reason 7 and 8 were so ridiculously pretty.
Mario Galaxy is the Wii’s best game.
BUY BLASTWORKS. It’s a Wii shmup that’s fun and features a fully-featured level, bullet, and ship editor, as well as an online repository for said custom levels/bullets/ships.
I wholeheartedly agree that the N64 sucked. It was a complete waste of memory space.
Shinobi III was amazing but MK3 was ridiculous considering the amount damage a combo can inflict. MK2 was simple yes but is still better IMO.
Halo series is weak, but then again all fps are weak to me.
