Unpopular gaming opinions SECOND IMPACT

People who say old nes is low tier, are people who havent lived though the 80’s and dont understand and never will.

Edit: Its really hard for this new gen gamers to understand what it was like back then cause they didnt live though that era.

  1. You’re comparing games in different genres, that have nothing to do with one another, and you don’t even give terms for the comparison
  2. You base worth on graphics
  3. You are accusing people who like a video game for many years of living in the past
  4. Your game has not even come out yet

I’d say you have red bars for being a fucking idiot, not a naysayer.

And you are here because…?

You know what you’re right. And I never will understand. And I as a youngster proclaim “I respect the 80s” for starting everything off. Likewise with hip-hop(Rakim the God), sports (OG Jordan), and everything else. I will never understand the powerglove, or the ghostbusters before the new ghostbusters, or Sega Master System, or cartridge cleaning, or dependability. The late 80s-early 90s cats which I came from learned from this.

It was a good system just that like you said I missed out during the golden years.

ya i can see that, cause people actually do that, but their problem is they cant disguish what is actually good and not haha…

your ability to analyze a game as an adult and as a child is different, when you are young everything becomes more fun and you are not expecting much, but as you grow old you start have expectations, what keeps your attention and your interests change…

i grew up in the 80s and there were not a ton of good games…i went back and played some of the games i thought were good, and really, they were not…

Well its also cause you’ve already played them before. Hell I cant go back and play my old games anymore cause Ive played them way to much and now im borred of them.

Well, it’s about personal preference, rather than ignorance of the system. It’s pretty bad when only 2 or 3 games at the most jump out as something appealing to me, after all this time DS has existed. Phoenix Wright? Please…games that appear to have absolutely 0 replay value don’t appeal to me at all. I like to get games that might be enjoyable more than once. What else is left on that desolate island of “gaming”? Castlevania(I’ve never been a serious fan of this franchise) and a couple of Sonic(this is much better and more entertaining, imo) games, ok, sure. This is the extent of this so-called “great” system? I feel there should be more than that by now. Even the Viewtiful Joe game on there looked like trash, and I was probably the biggest Viewtiful Joe fan ever. It’s really just strengthened a bit by the backwards compatibility to GBA. In fact, there were actually more Advance-era games that interested me—Gunstar Superheroes(probably the most fun I’ve ever had with a portable game so far), the Super Mario Advances, and Astroboy

…such a tragic fall from grace though, speaking of that franchise(VJ). Part 2 was disappointing, then Red Hot Rumble ended up being much worse…easily one of the biggest disappointing game experiences ever for me. It still saddens me that Viewtiful Joe 3 seems about as likely as MvC3 at this point. I already gave up hope.

-In-game artwork for most of the old SNK/Neo Geo games was ugly as hell. Take a good look at those butt-ugly visuals of World Heroes…take a long look and seriously try to tell yourself that’s aesthetically pleasing. Capcom had some terrible visuals too, but it was mostly cover and magazine-related art…the in-game stuff usually looked ok, and much better than the eyesore worlds of World Heroes and Art of Fighting. Samurai Shodown was the exception though over in Neo Geo land…I remember it always looked cool.

Have you even played any of the shit you are bashing? Almost every time you mentioned a DS game it was followed by ‘looks like’ and then an insult. If you haven’t played any of it, how are you in a position to judge it?

1: And? The basis is that playing GTA can last for hours regardless, doing missions, or fucking around. Fighting games only become fun with human opponents. Any genre that is good in single player mode is >>>> fighting. You can only play practice mode so much…

2: Not really 100% true. But on the other hand, I have a 360, and I don’t want to waste it’s power on some low-res sprites that Capcom made in 1994. Even moreso when I get a PS3, I’m not paying $600 to play some kind of CFE crap, just like I didn’t pay $400 on a 360 to play CFE.

3: No I’m not. I got blasted for saying I was trading my MVC2 for PS2 for a GTAIV pre-order. Its like I was being punished for not wanting to hold on to that crap. Double standard.

4: And because of the title, I already know its the game of the year.

Guys keep bitching about no new Capcom fighting game, learn to play something else. They’ll listen alright, and shit out CFE2, and everyone will be complainin about how the roster is shitty, and every other aspect of the game, including the graphics, so meh.

You don’t always have to play something to know right off it won’t thrill you. Besides the 0 replay value, it doesn’t even appear to be fun in the first place. I prefer action/adventure, finding things, killing things…super-human abilities in an interesting world, interesting/deep competitive(against people) strategy…Phoenix Wright has none of that due to the concept. You’re in a courtroom, taking on a case. As I’ve said before, that would be more entertaining to me as a show or a movie, not a game.

Also, visual presentation is reasonably important. Nothing about the Viewtiful Joe DS game is appealing to me, other than it happens to be in the VJ universe. All the things I’ve read/seen about it means it’s just not good enough compared to the console VJ games. There was what, 2 enemies on screen at once? Then, it looked(yes, there’s that word again) slow, awkward, and boring…something a Viewtiful Joe game should never be(*with the exception of the “Slow” superpower). Videos, previews, and pictures are usually enough to gauge your level of interest in any game out there. Surely you don’t have to play every single game that comes out to judge whether it interests you? Say you’re not into the FPS genre at all…do you really have to play “Black” to know for sure it’s a piece of shit in your opinion? What if nothing about those WW2 shooters appeals to you…it is then a waste of time and money to even rent that, when it already looks like trash from the things you’ve read and seen about it. If the very concept of the game itself isn’t appealing to me, then hey, I’m not wasting time playing that.

-Puzzle games are things I would play for free, or for a dirt cheap price only…so they hardly count towards my interest factor in a system…they aren’t a “real video game” to me, in the same way something like Smash Bros., Viewtiful Joe, Actraiser, Unreal Champ 2, etc. are. It’s like something light…to make the food comparison; the puzzle game is like a light salad to me…or a 50 cent bag of chips…compared to the real games being that big plate of lasagna with a side of garlic bread. The last things I’d get a portable system for are puzzle games.

…and srk already knows…RPGs aren’t my thing at all unless it’s real time action. I’ll be nice and avoid the cheap shot since I took one a few posts back, fulfilling my “RPG Hate” commentary quota for the day.

-I actually remember playing Metroid on a DS demo/kiosk thing at a Gamestop or something…and it was just “ok” at best for me.

Well the PSP is doing ok, but its very hard to compete with a handheld that has been around for years. There has been other hand-helds that were around but everyone remembers gameboy has beaten every hand held ever to come out. DS is a good hand held for what it has Mario Kart, New mario, Starfox, metroid, Dragon Quest Rocket Slime, Puyo Pop one of the best puzzle games ever, and Pokemon diamond and Pearl. With games like that is hard for PSP to compete.

PSP is a new handheld with most of there games just ok for right now, im sure it will pick up once it gets more games like Silent Hill 0.

Now though PSP is over priced and even though it has some good games its not worth it. As for me I got DS cause Puyo Pop and Dragon Quest Rocket slime are very good games And also im getting Dragon quest 9 its going to be a free style rpg like legend of mana.

Edit: there are non-main stream games on the DS that are fun also, just people tend to only look at the main-stream games and not try some of the old ball games.

I would say it’s not fun, single player or otherwise, but that’s just me. If you think it’s better than multiplayer games because you have to have other people to play them, the idiocy of that statement stings me.

So you’re saying that you bought a new system and now all older games are extinct… because their graphics are worse? You do understand that playing new and old games are not mutually exclusive acts?

Well I hate MvC2 as much as the next person, but that is the tone you were giving off, that older games suck.

…Game of the Year of what?

how is psp overpriced??? compared to what it can do and what the ds can do the psp is a fucking steal plain and simple, that shit is cheap…

Some people rather play games on there hand held. If I want to watch a movie ill use a dvd player, if I want to surf the net ill use my computer. Ill get a PSP later once more games come out like silent hill and god of war.

The ‘But my toothbrush can do algebra’ argument fails, a handheld gaming system is for games, and the PSP’s game library blows. Why in gods name does anyone want to surf the internet on a psp or a phone? As for music, it’s terrible compared to an MP3 player like my iPod, and as for movies… wow don’t make me laugh at that shitty-as-fuck movie format. I’m gonna pay the price of a dvd, but for something where I can only watch the movie on a 3 inch screen! Logic!

Toothbrushes shouldn’t do algrebra, they should brush your teeth, and handheld gaming systems don’t need to do all the other shit they do, just games. And the PSPs games suck, end of story.

Not to be offensive, but you’re bashing the DS, yet you’re not mentioning any of the killer apps (i.e. the games made by NINTENDO)? This is like bashing SNK using Art of Fighting as you’re backup instead of Samurai Shodown or King of Fighters. If you’re going to bash the DS, at least mention a Mario game or something. It would sound more justified.

I personally don’t think Bioware’s gameplay systems (Infinity, Aurora, etc.) are all that great. It just seems very boring and lifeless to me IMO. It’s probably just not my thing, even though I liked some of their games (Jade Empire in particular, mainly because it felt more fast-paced and fluid than some of their other games).

King of Fighters 2003 was not all that bad. Yes, Duolon was broken as hell (and seriously, so were guys like Daimon, Malin, K’, and Ash, but to a lesser extent), but the gameplay was very fast and fun IMO. It’s gameplay system just needed more refinement, which was delivered in the form of KOFXI.

Drown your face in gasoline, your usefulness is expired.
