Unpopular gaming opinions SECOND IMPACT

I like gog. Mostly because the games I buy on GOG are guaranteed to work while the games on steam can be hit or miss depending how old they are.

GoG takes the time to update old games so they work on modern machines.

Gaben is the fucking savior and prophet of gaming you faithless piece of shit.

You better fucking acknowledge your own sins now, download and install Steam and buy 10 fucking Orange Boxes, send 9 to your friends and play the shit out of the one you kept yourself for next fucking two month or your heretical ass will burn in Games for Windows Live, where everyone comes and lends you amazing games you want to play, but each time you turn on the console it asks for an online pass BUT GUESS WHAT ITS ALREADY USED!

GFWL is shutting down next year, so it’s too late to jump on that bandwagon.

But real talk, I already bought the physical copy of the Orange Box back in 2008. Shit was surprisingly cheaper than the console versions ($25 IIRC). I threw that game away though, because Half Life 2 is a shit game and TF2 was always gay.

Rather play 1.6 in some laggy ass Vietnamese server.

Well 1st time ive ever heard someone not like TF2. Still rather play TF2 over trash like CoD and Halo series

Then you haven’t seen the TFC/QWTF diehards who are still upset about the removal of class specific grenades and bunny hopping.

QFT. I set this up for my GF cause she hates keyboards and was playing Q3 on a couch with a mouse in one hand and a 360 pad in the other. Only problem was, we could never get the bluetooth drivers to stick on her rig, so you had to have the USB cable jabbing into your leg at all times - kinda killed the comfort and convenience aspect for us.

Still though, the PS Move costs what, $20 - compared to crap like the FragFX, which charges ~$90 for a mediocre, low DPI mouse, it’s a great deal.

Also people think a setup like this kills your binds because you can’t insta-switch to specific weapons. If you have a mouse with plenty of buttons, or just get smart with your bind scripts, it’s simply not true.

How do you use the move to play Quake? Really interested in this as i am not that big a fan of Keyboard play either. Personally I’ve ways wanted to be able to use to control stick part of the wii nunchuck combo on PC for movement while using the mouse for aiming. Still havent found a way to get that to work tho.

I think that the bad sport rating is the dumbest system I’ve seen in an online game ever.

If someone is griefing me in game and I just outright nuke the shit out of em, and everything about them There should be no reprocussions in the form of a stupid hat attached to my head.

We use the PS Move ā€œnavigation controllerā€ which, is similar to a nunchuck. http://webassetsf.scea.com/pscomauth/groups/public/documents/webasset/sc_large.jpg

You just have to get a generic bluetooth dongle off Amazon or Ebay, then download this Motioninjoy program w/ drivers, and it syncs so you can use the buttons, d-pad, and analog sticks as ordinary pc controls. IIRC Xpadder also comes in handy - among other things you can set the analog stick to toggle between walking and running dependent on pressure, even if the game has no innate analog support. I wish I could give you more specific links, but I did this ~2 years ago so I lost the info. I’m pretty sure it’ll all come up pretty early in a google search though.

Personally I like to set up the left bumper as jump and the left trigger as crouch. I use extra buttons on the mouse as direct weapon binds - if you come up short on buttons, you can set it so holding the left trigger or left bumper alternates all your available weapon switching buttons to a second set of binds (i.e. mouse 5 switches to rockets, but when holding LT, it switches to grenades). This effectively allows you to directly access all 8 weapons with only 4 buttons, so it even works with A/B/X/Y on a 360 pad. Then I use the d-pad for extra stuff, like dropping weapons/ammo, toggling between different mouse sensitivities, BFG, or skipping/restarting maps on my LAN server. Select and start do scoreboard and menu.

So with the right binds, you can pretty much do everything in the game without a keyboard.

There is a way to do all this with a wiimote or nunchuk as well, though it’s more complicated and I never got it to work. There is a lot of info out there, especially if you look up how people are syncing with the Dolphin emulator. Again, once you get the controllers synced, Xpadder or something like MotioninJoy should let you use them in any game by translating your Wii inputs to fake keyboard and mouse signals.

Awesome man i never thought about trying it with my PSMove. Now i have a reason to remove it from the packaging. Ill be googling it up, i never could find anything for the wii controls but thr move sounds much easier to work with anyway and has more buttons. Thanks again.

Are you guys being serious? Playing QL with a psmove controller is like trying to play fighting games with a steering wheel controller. It’s fucking impractical unless you just want to fool around.

I am 100% serious. using WASD for control flairs my carpel tunnel like crazy, and i lose myself on the keyboard all the time. I am very bad at using a keyboard for movement.

Hmm, I’m glad I grew up using KB+M pretty early. Mouse aiming=GDLK.

I used to play this one game called Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. Not only did you need to strafe with the A+D keys left and right at high level, you would want to be tapping Z+C keys as you strafed to make your character lean in that direction(this changed the position of your characters torso/head, and made it harder to get shot in those areas. Leaning while running got so big, that in the games expansion, they removed being able to lean+run at the same time. )

^ I think that really helped my KB+M execution over time. I started PC gaming in the late 90’s and early 00’s, those were the ā€œgolden yearsā€ of PC gaming imo, Quake 3-engine based games all day.

Yea I wish i had gotten into keyboard/mouse gaming a lot sooner then I did so that playing that way would come more naturally to me. I can play this way, but I’m not terribly good at it, and I don’t enjoy it very much for reasons mentioned above. One of my few ā€œgaming regrets.ā€

FYI: Call of Duty runs on a heavily modified Quake 3 engine.

That being said…

The best way to play Quake 3 Arena is on a 360 controller with your internet on a Wi-Fi connection. Locked at 30fps all day.

Yeah, I know.

Source=heavily modified Quake 1 engine still.

$$$

There seems to be barely anyone on QL at any given moment, which was one of the reasons why I quit a year ago. The other reason was because I was a scrubby bitch. Hahaha.

But I miss it and want to play it again now that I have a gaming ahem notebook, and also because no other multiplayer game suits me like QL. It’s a one of a kind shooter.

  • I created a new QL account recently and my username is also "blueleon"
I’ll subscribe to premium later and hope that QL continues to grow and exist.

i dunno how useful keyboard and mouse will be while inside the game

i think having a sharpshooter and full body recognition and macro awareness will wipeout any beliefs behind keyboard and mouse in the future. may take a decade though

I was playing Unreal Tournament '99 for the first time in years last night and there were still some populated servers up.

Rise of the Triad 2013=awesome arena shooter if QL is that dead. Check it out in my sig or watch a video of the MP, it’s fun as hell.
