It’s been a few years since I played an Onimusha game but I have very fond memories of the franchise…even Dawn of Dreams to an extent, even though I hated that they got rid of RE controls.
Genma Onimusha>Bayonetta. And yes I know they’re very different but they’re both in the umbrella genre of 3D action games.
I was looking through my PS2 collection and was quite pleased to find that I do have all 4 Onimusha games (1-4, no spin offs). Might have to dig out the PS2.
Jubei, Samanoske and goddamn JEAN RENO are all such awesome characters. Nothing but great memories and multiple playthroughs of all Onimusha games for me(other than 4.) Really wish they’d announce a new game for next-gen or toss us an HD collection.
Next-gen Onimusha with next-gen graphics=GGPO. Deep Down on crack.
@Hawkingbird When you say RE1 do u mean PS/Saturn or GC?
Super unpopular opinion
RE3 is slightly better than 2 just barely. I liked the ammo making mechanic. It gives you some diversity in different playthroughs. Plus Nemmy<< every monster in RE2 besides Birkin
I’ve never played Genma but I have heard stories about the “Evil Doll” and it sounds like something that would fill my life with trauma and fear. I’m not even kidding. Some Chinese horror movie did that to me when I was 7-8 years old and it never shook off until much later.
But anyways, Onimusha 1 > Genma for the simple fact that #1. It alters the original game and those changes ruin the story. Think about it. #2. It’s on the xbox.

For fucking real. I grew up playing Onimusha and in some ways I’ve modeled myself after Sam and Jube.
When I bought my PS3 I had high hopes for an HD collection but it never came through. PCSX2 still isn’t up to snuff so all we can do now is cherish the moments we’ve had. :happytears:
Genma only added Oni 2 mechanics to oni 1 and made the game harder, Ogre tower and armor, Evil dolls. None of it ruined the story/game, but it being on xbox is dumb.
I meant the original Resident Evil. I never had a chance to play the remake. I put RE2 above RE3 as I felt that game had better replay value and the dodge made Nemesis encounters easy. You master the dodge Nemesis ain’t gotta touch you. Also fuck that water purity puzzle near the end of RE3.
Genma is way better than 1, it’s really one of the rare times where an updated port is exactly that. And it had to be on xbox to take advantage of it’s higher tech specs, it looks noticeably better than 1 on PS2.
It’s honestly quite a shame that a crapload of resources were (in my opinion) wasted on re-releasing JSR instead of JSRF. I would’ve hated losing some music tracks like The Prune and some of the Beastie Boys (whatever that song was) but the rest of the sound track is awesome enough and I would’ve repurchased JSRF in a heartbeat.
I’ve no idea who to petition or where I can go to demand or at least show interest in another JSRF type game other than by buying JSR… Which I bought… And was underwhelmed by…
Also, it has occurred to me that the emulated JSRF on 360 may make it impossible to unlock NT-3000 because of graphical errors… Sigh… Which I think means you can’t get Potts… Siiiiiiiiiiiiiigh… At least you can get Zero Beat… Which took me for fucking ever back in the day. Whiff hit confirm landing all those platforms like 1000000 times.
curious as to why zero is at the bottom of your list, I thought it was good and introduced the team dynamic, story is a little questionable but it does make some sense
I still think the REmake is the best re game ever made
RE0 is at the bottom of my list for two reasons. I hated the character switching mechanic as I personally found it annoying as it was a pain to manage the resources of two active characters. When the two characters were together the AI would burn through those resources like nothing. Secondly, the absence of item boxes made the backtracking extra tedious. Nothing sucks more when you made your way to the underground of the training facility and the item you need to progress you dropped at the site of the train crash.
Zero is by no means a bad game. I liked it the least of the main series games I played.
