I hated the series after 10, though some people love it, so whatever.
Gray Fox, I loved MGS3. I consider it the best in the series next to MGS1, what made you get frustrated in that game? I’d like to know.
I didn’t know anyone didn’t think The Legend of Dragoon wasn’t awesome.
The majority of people prefer Chrono Trigger over Chrono Cross, I’m in the majority in this case. Would like to see some people get butthurt over people liking B game over A game, though. Everyone has different tastes/opinions.
I still need to play Turtles in Time OG, everyone likes it better and it pisses me off ive never played it, oh ya and fuck everyone on srk about rpgs, only person I can talk to is Weeks and Duc if he ever post again, fuck everyone else
I had way more fun with the Shenmue games than any GTA. Put me in front of Shenmue or GTA4 and I would put in Shenmue and drive a forklift for a few hours straight. The forklift controls better than the cars in GTA4.
I liked a lot of the incredibly fine details and options added to MGS3, I was just awful without radar. I was so used to it, and it felt awkward fumbling back and forth between first person and 3rd person sneaking. Or using sonar/whatever the fuck the other thing was. Seemed like a cool game, but I just didn’t really have fun with it, and at the end of the day that’s all that really matters eh?
I agree about the dragoon thing too.
Bullshit, I think I like pretty much everything you’ve mentioned so far! I think it just seems like a lot of people don’t because they’re the ones you notice. Just ignore them rather than letting it get to you. (not to sound like a douche or anything)
I do disagree with you about WRPGs though, I don’t think they have bad stories. I can see how you’d prefer a singular plot over a diverging one or branching one, but it’s a bit of a stretch to say wrpgs have no plot or are just side quests. I’ve played some jrpgs that have had some god awful plots too. (Grandia 3 I am looking at you)If you don’t like em that’s one thing, but don’t let the “jrpg’s suck” people turn you against them.
Everything or Nothing and From Russia With Love >>>>>>>>>>> Goldeneye, which was a mediocre N64 FPS which happened to have the license to the best Bond film in decades. Doom 64 was the best N64 FPS.
Dragon Age was good but not great. Suffered from the Bioware problem of not being able to be subtly evil and engineer a rise to power. Also had annoying sidekicks, a lame final boss, not enough ending options, and wasted voice talent. Seriously why did they waste Tim Curry as a minor villain? The only reason to do that is if you have someone like Jeremy Irons or Alan Rickman as the head honcho.
Warcraft 2 is still the best game in the series.
Morrowind >>>> Oblivion
Jedi Knight and Jedi Outcast were awesome.
Civilization needs to adopt more aspects of war gaming. 5 is so it should be the best civ ever.
Both of those were awesome, (and I’m not trying to copy what you did) but I thought Terranigma was the best out of the “series”(unless there were more I didn’t play). I played the European version rom a while aho and it was a really fun game. in fact this reminds me, I need to buy it for my collection
random fact, Soul Blazer is actually Soul Blader in Japan(I have it in box :bgrin:). I wonder why they changed that 1 letter?
I’m with you on that man  though it could be because I suck at racing games
Lunar the SSS and Lunar 2 are superior to all Final Fantasy games except for Tactics. Tactics Ogre>>Tactics, and TO: A night of lodis>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Tactics advance.
Lunar was the shit. They were hard too. Lunar Eternal Blue was like the only game I’ve ever played where I got to the final boss and couldn’t beat him.
seriously man, In Lunar 2 I had to level a lot and still couldn’t beat the last boss without using that dragon crest that made the whole team invincible for 1 attack. I had to spam that crest every single turn, even if he didn’t attack everyone. Then when I got to the post game, holy shit even just the first dungeon in the prologue was fucking hard as hell.
I need to replay these games, but my copies are in Cali. I might get the PSP version, but when I started the demo I noticed they changed the lyrics to the opening theme.it’s not bad, but it isn’t the same
Terranigma would have arguably been the best in my mind if not for that abysmal ending. BTW, Is your copy of Blader the T-16 version or the SNES? The reason as I understand it for the one letter change was because Blazer (SNES) is a remake of Blader (T-16).
Also, I’ll see your random fact and counter with another: The Granstream Saga for PSX is also part of the Soul Blader series, according to the devs of the game (all former Quintet and Enix employees).
Oh, and one more for you guys: Lost Odyssey owned all FF games that weren’t Tactics. It also owns Mass Effect for free.
EDIT: I’m on a roll so I have yet another to throw out there: The Last Remnant is in the top five of Square’s best games ever made, and an absolute must play even if you have to play the flawed X360 version. The PC version is a masterpiece that reminded me why I loved the company.
Yeah, I loved Terranigma but I agree about the ending. And copy is definitely the super famicom/snes version. I grabbed a bunch of random awesome (or at least awesome to me:rofl:) when I was studying abroad.
I never knew about Grandstream Saga being part of the “series.” interesting. I never played it because it didn’t look too hot, and friends of mine said it wasn’t very good.
And oddly enough I was having a conversation about Lost Odyssey today, and he was giving it high praises as well. I really want to play it but don’t have a 360. Same with Last Remnant though I can actually play this (once I upgrade my PC)
Just to clarify I do think that JRPGs are better able to tell coherent stories, but lately they have nothing to say. I’ve heard Lost Odyssey was a great game, and I’d like to give it a shot, but I don’t have a Xbox360. The last JRPG I truly enjoyed was Suikoden V. Did it have some moe? Yeah, but it wasn’t the point of the game. Did it feature an effete main character? Yeah. But it gave a good reason for that (he grew up in a matriarchal state), and it had a compelling story of a prince trying to avenge his family and protect his kingdom. I don’t find the stories of any JRPGs I’ve played lately very compelling at all.
A big part of the reason why I think Bioware is making solid WRPGs these days is that the WRPG has been under the radar for a while and is just now making a comeback. Sure there was NWN, but those games were pretty weak for the most part in the story department. The writing in DA:O and Mass Effect 1/2 has been top notch for the most part, and has done characterization better than any JRPG I can remember, even if it isn’t very plot driven.
