I think Sonic has a better personality then 99% of FF characters.
The Halo games are overrated, mediocre shooters that only appeal to the massive amount of people whoâs first FPS was GoldenEye.
The last great Final Fantasy was VIII. 9 was meh, 10 was boring, 11 was a japanese EverQuest(right down to the monster camping), and 12 just detracted from the series too much to even warrant caring. Fuck XIII when it comes out.
Western RPGâs are not as good as they used to be. Eastern RPGâs are just much more fun to play by comparison, mainly because they actually let you play a role instead of the game doing it for you. Also, the stories are much better.
The Wii sucks. Once you get bored of the gimmick, the system is just boring. The Wii is not a game system, it is a toy.
Unreal Tournament III is a very underrated game and itâs fucking awesome.
Danteâs Inferno is just as fun as God of War, if not better. Stop with that âomg its a copycat game SO BADâ shit.
Call of Duty: World at War had the best campaign out of the whole series.
Grapplers should never be low tier. All hail SF4 Gief.
Super Metroid is boring.
The Xband Network was the best online gaming platform ever.
The Super Smash Bros. series are fighting games for kids and are not fun.
The Dreamcast failed because the PS2 was simply a better system.
Blue Dragon was a disappointing game.
Sacred 2 is a really fun game to play.
edit for possible racist opinion.
Basically final fantasy 7 was a marketing ploy and disc 2 and 3 werent as solid as disc one. the steampunk theme was used for disc 1 and midgar to showcase the power of the playstation and because steampunk was a contrast to fantasy, it went well with the contrast of ff6 technology to playstation technology.
also ff7 might be looked back on as a great game because its what rpgâs should have been like. the non linear story of disc 1 was unpredictable and the friends you made were also unpredictable. its just that the rest of the game didnt live up to disc 1, but you realize why when the only thing they had to sell to the public was disc 1 content. the steampunk theme s almost dropped in disc 2 and 3 and you realize midgar was the only major city on the entire planet and that the entire planet might have a population of 2 million people and that 90% of that comes from midgar. you should feel let down and scammed. but when youre 9 years old, youâre too busy being amazed at having a large sword and being the center of attention in a fictional universe to contemplate these problems.

Wipeout was the PS1âs first ever killer app. It wasnât Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo or Symphony of the Night.
-
The quality of playing online on PSN is just as good as it is on Xbox Live in my opinion. Except itâs free. (For nowâŚ)

I honestly donât mind Namco Bandai charging for extra stuff thatâs already on the disc, considering none of it is overpriced and most of it isnât necessary to the core of the game (ex. the SC4 holiday costumes that were only about $2 if I recall)
Western RPGs =/= JRPGs as far as Iâm concerned. Gems and disappointments on both sides (although if I had to choose, Iâd say there are more gems from JRPGs than WRPGs - KOTORs and Mass Effects arenât common, FF9s and Dragon Quest 8s kinda are).
FF9âs and dragon quests are also a lot easier to develop.
This observation is based on what exactly? Youâre gonna have to back that up.
I wouldnât know. Iâm not very familiar with any Final Fantasy games that donât have aeons or fayth in them. That said, no one in any Final Fantasy game Iâve played has a line as cringe-worthy as âSonicâs the name, speedâs my game!â
Hey, 1991 calledâŚ
Bioware and blackisle etc have to make games that allow for branching story paths, because they adhere to the roleplaying princible. whereas JRPGs are more like an adventure game like grim fandango, but make things look RPG by giving the game RPG elements.
also what i was accusing asia of doing to RPGâs was popularizing this new formula, which had a profound effect on early mmoâs and is what created everquest. ultima online came first but that formula doesnt work because it doesnt feel familiar to what most gamers grew up with, the everquest forumula feels more similiar to the Final fanstasy formula, and is what created the everquest craze which for the last decade or more has influenced mmoâs about 10x more than ultima has influenecd mmoâs.
most mmoâs and many asian mmos are based off the everquest formula now and are extremely shallow games, maple story, tales weaver etc. but everquest would have never been possible had they not had JRPGâs to copy from and turn online. the JRPG formula doesnt work in princible going online, but it does work in practice because of the familiarity with JRPGâs.
thus if JRPGs didnt encapsulate people throughout the late 80âs and 90âs. people wouldnt have any expectations as to what an RPG is supposed to feel like or play like, and they wouldnt have prefered Everquest to ultima, WoW wouldnt be an everquest clone ergo JRPG inspired game, it would be inspired from ultima or something else, and the mmo games we would be playing would be a lot more fun.
So basically youâre putting blame on itâs influence? If so your beef is with fellow gamers rather than JRPGs themselves. Blaming Call of Dutyâs success on FF13âs linearity is similar, and just as reaching.
Counterstrike might have been great for its time, but its overrated and past its prime now. There are better tactical shooters out now.
Tribes 2 was the best tribes game in the series. Star-siege Tribes and Tribes:Vengeance (T3) werenât bad, but I hated how easily anybody could just run in and grab the flag without getting touched. Tribes 2 was more balanced overall and had ALOT more stuff you could do to contribute. It was one of my most favorite online team shooter games.
Unreal Tournament 2003 was awesome (for about a week). But I was disappointed with UT2004 because they didnât make any changes to the gameplay/engine except add vehicles and onslaught mode and an unnecessarily absurd amount of content which, honestly, didnât do much for me besides making a feeble attempt to keep UT2003 on life support.
Fallout 2 is a broken game with too high an encounter rate and too bloated. Fallout 1 was awesome though.
Tomb Raider 3 was probably my favorite in the series
Half Life 1 was kind of boring, but HL2 rocked
I thought the addition of Vehicles in Call of Duty: United Offensive detracted greatly from the game
Tekken 2 was good. But Tekken 3 was a disappointment because too many of the old characters were replaced and many of the character endings were totally nonsensical or just sucked compared to T2 character endings.
The Bloody Roar series is good.
In late 2007, Fire Pro Wrestling Returns was released. The controls are not user friendly when you first start off playing itâŚbut once you get the hang of itâŚoh man. This game should definitely not be missed by any wrestling fan. And for only 8 bucks and some change at AmazonâŚGo. Go get it!
this is untrue in my experience
SF2HDR on ps3 frequently has issues finding matches and has a large tendency to freeze during load times and dropping connections requiring the user to reset the game. I have never encountered these issues for the same game on xbox 360
the yakuza 3 demo is complete trash.
there. i said it.
graphicallyâŚjust no. this is 2010. it looks very, very last gen.
the amount of text in a game like this is veryâŚtwo or three gens ago.
having an fmv/cut scene and then the fact that you have to go through pages of text explaining the cut scene that was already explained during the fmvâŚjust no.
the fightingâŚna. iâm good.
its just very boring as far as gameplay and the game is very dated looking.
we probably arenât getting yakuza 4 if sales will be the deciding factor as to whether or not sega decides to bring this over to the u.s. instead of bringing yakuza 3 over, we should have had vf5r available for d/l before vf5fs drops.
XBL and PSN being equal is grossly untrue. XBL is clearly better and PSN is playing catch up - as stated by Sony themselves. I never understood why people avoid some of the most obvious things. Iâm not saying XBL is better in some fit of fanboygasm, Iâm just regarding general quality and feature set. Itâs more than just âplaying games onlineâ. Of course they both do that well.
Final fantasy 8 is not only the worst final fantasy(possible exception 2 because I havenât played it and heard it sucked) itâs one of the worst rpgâs Iâve ever played. ALL the characters are all awful, the story is comically bad, battles are âmash SQUAREâ and your summon kills everything, you have to GRIND MP and you are better off not casting spells and just taking the stat boosts. The freaking card game was more fun than FF8 actually was.
FF7 is overrated but still good.
Youâre being a total drama queen over FF8. No need to over embellish.
No I donât like emulating anything to be quit honest with you. Iâd rather play them on a console on my big TV. I am simply pointing out that flaw in your logic. Saturns still a bitch to get running to actually now that I think about it. The point though is that being able to get stuff somewhere else doesnât invalidate a consoles worth.
The older I get, the less cool Japanâs Idea of cool is.
Skinny guys with ridiculous hair who brood for 40% of the story, open up and tell you their totally predicable back stories and then become nice guys are no longer interesting to me.
Twenty-two year olds who are military higher ups or in some other position that takes most people their entire careers to obtain. Take me out of the stories.
People in their mid thirties who act as if they are over the hill fogies who have seen it all and done it all, take me out of the story.
As snarky as Nathan Drake is, he never comes off as one dimentional like most smart ass characters from Japan.
Donât even get me started on the âPerky girlâ, âSad Girlâ or âTough girlâ Cardboard cutouts.
I will say that Vivi and Yuna are my favorite jrpg charaters. Very well written.
