hmm we need a gameworks night after you get back

haha sure, but I’ll probably lose every other round.

I’m talking with Thomas about the controls on the cabs. Worst case scenario, I’ll just order some convex buttons. Best case scenario, we’ll get Daryl out there(?) and put in a couple P360s.

How many convex buttons do you guys need?

Here’s the plan I sent to Thomas:

  • Figure out how many convex buttons you want and what color
  • Figure out what else is wrong/needs to be fixed
  • Verify with the hub manager that we can get someone external into there to install new sticks (buttons can be done by anyone, but the powered 360 sticks require someone with a clue)

Once that’s done, we can order stuff and contact Daryl once it arrives.

I say we only need 2 360’s w/ buttons in one of the cabinates. If people want to get better, they’ll have to play the better players on the better cabinate.

That makes sense , and would also be cheaper. I would also be good with a HAPP comp stick and a really stiff spring. I don’t know how long 360’s in the hub would last due to all these nigs playing all day, everyday.

Question is, would the hub boss lady let us just open up the cab and work some magic? She may be for it, but the assholes that actually own the machine (Music Vend) may cry about it like some emo bitches. We would actually be improving the condition of the machine, but they may think other wise.

MusicVend (Mountain Coin) owns them? Really? Wow - I didn’t know they did rental themselves.

Thomas asked Daryl to look at it - that’s the last update I have. Hopefully we can get an answer on a) if it’s possible and b) what it’ll cost. The button update alone should be pretty straight-forward and could be done by a monkey. I’d really like to have Daryl or somebody else with a clue install the stick, though.

MusicVend (I think they’re Mountain Coin now) sells joysticks at retail prices, so a p360 from them may run $120. Just a warning here…

update…

-row said cody has some 360s we might be able to “borrow.”

-i’m thinking about planning a tourney to fundraise for the new sticks/buttons. seems like there’d be a decent number of people interested.

-… if we did the tourney we’d need to borrow someone’s mas… or xbox to dc converter for a mas

-kitty said she’d ask music vend/coin about fixing the machines (checking on the status of that today… will update later).

I would willingly provide some monetary funds if they are needed. If we all pitched in, it should be relatively cheap(er).

so i went to the UW on sunday, and err, were the fierce and roundhouse buttons on the main machine out front purposefully disabled for no assists or are they just broken?

I have not been there in some years. However, I believe that when the HUB arcade got a second MvC2 machine in 2002, they disconnected the assists on the old machine (the buttons were already suffering from overuse). The old machine was kept around as an alternate format–sans assists–that people could play while they were waiting in line to play the main machine.
I’m not sure if this was what you’re referring to. Fernando told me this was the case way back when. Speaking of which, if Fernando still in the area? Anyone know?

Nah Fernando graduated a long time ago. The assist less machines were like 3 years ago, when Fernando was organizing an assist-less tournament. they were returned back to normal afterward.

the HUB really deserves to have functioning marvel cabinets.

The cabs at the UW work from time to time but they just go borked again at some point. They’re used so much and so roughly that it’s just a matter of time before it gets broken again. If folks played a bit softer (although I know it’s difficult to do that with MvC2), I think the sticks would stay fixed longer.

And hot damn, I haven’t logged into this account in more than year and haven’t posted regularly in like 2-3 years.

If anyone is wondering, I’m the big guy that plays teams like Venom/Doom/Jin, Hayato/Sentinel/Psylocke, and etc.

Rairu: I need to play you again Evan (if it is you. I can’t remember anyone’s names around here anymore), been ages since I played Marvel against you assuming you still play some. The last time I did was at Tim’s place like years ago.

yup im still a big marvel head. im pretty much always down to battle. how is Tim doing? i haven’t talked to that guy in forever.

cabs will be fixed soon (within the month with 360s and convex buttons). assists work fine. no-assist tourney was YEARS ago. lol. evan, come to the uw thursday nights and bring your mas. then we can have a real tourney at david’s house. hit me up foo! 2063721814. thomas.

Yo Thomas, you guys play any other games besides marvel? Gameworks is nice, but too expensive.

I dunno, I haven’t talked to him in awhile either. I’ve been busy with school mostly.

i think david plays some cvs2 and both alan and david play gulity gear… they play everything i think, just not nearly as well as they play marvel. i don’t really have time for the other games :stuck_out_tongue:

David plays Mario Smash Brothers and Hello Kitty Island Adventure

aaaaahahahhaahhahaha

o btw, for those that don’t have facebook. the one thing holding me back from collecting money/doing a tourney is that the last time 360s were ordered, they didn’t fit. so the hub manager’s gonna get some guy to come take a look again and imma try take some pics so we can get a second opinion.

the cab’s old, but no THAT old is it?!
