University of California, Irvine: Tuesday Night Casuals

What are you guys playing tonight?

Sorry for the day late reply. Typically, we have Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, King of Fighters 13, and sometimes Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition 2012.

You are also welcome to bring your own games/set-up if you want to bring something. We had a set ups for SFxT, Skull Girls, Street Fighter 2, and Soul Calibur 5 once in awhile before, so don’t feel limited to the games I listed above. We are going to encourage Persona 4:Arena in the near future though.

Bumptity Bump with info on our first (test) monthly tournament

I have a few questions.
Will you be doing casuals during the tournament today?
Are you running KOF on ps3 or xbox? I want to bring one of my friends but he only has a ps3 controller. Would it be posible to borrow a controller otherwise?

Yes, we tend to have 1 or 2 stations available for casuals. The game on those stations will typically depend on the line up of games. For example, if AE is being run and the next game is TTT2, then the casual stations will be TTT2 for those players to warmup for the next tourney.

KOF will be run on both systems, but we primarily have PS3. This should work out for your friend I hope

Sorry for the extremely late reply

Do you guys run ranbats over the weekend? Or is this just on Tuesdays? I can’t make these ranbats on weeknights due to other obligations. However, I will do my best to go there whenever I can.

Edit: Is marvel usually run on ps3 or xbox? My stick is for ps3 and I don’t have a converter to xbox just yet. If I do need that converter do you guys have any suggestions? I prefer the cheapest but I also would like it to be reliable. Thanks.

We run a monthly tournament on the weekends. Nothing in terms of an actual ranbat anymore due to low attendance. Tuesday nights is just a casual session gathering.

Marvel is usually run on both PS3 and Xbox. We tend to have a majority PS3 players, especially pad, so marvel will always have at least 1 PS3 setup. As far as converters go I don’t really have much info regarding that. Usually people just dual mod their sticks.

It’s 2:45 right now and I’m going to be on campus until 5. Are there any AE cabs on campus that people regularly play on?

Not that I know of. I believe there’s a UMVC3 cab you can play at the ZotZone. They may have AE if you check.

Are you guys having casuals tonight?

Updated tourney info post for Nov. 10th

Session for this Tuesday (11/13/2012) has been cancelled due to room problems. It will resume on 11/20/2012.

Hey Irvine guys, lets get a Skullgirls tournament happening at Socal Regionals!

http://www.shoryuken.com/forum/index.php?threads/socal-regionals-2012-side-tournament-interest-check.172490/

This upcoming session (December 18th, 2012) will be the last session we will have for the year due to administration’s recess at UC Irvine. We will resume Tuesday sessions at January 8th, 2013.

Have a good holiday!

Is January 8th, 2013 (tomorrow) still going down? Slight typo above as 2012 was written. :c

will there a gathering tonight ?

Are you guys holding a session tonight or taking the week of cause of SCR?

We’re hosting a session tonight (check the first post for details).

RANBAT!

We will be hosting a bi-weekly ranbat instead of a monthly tournament. Why? Because we felt the ranbat format is best suited in helping us identify our most talented and dedicated FG@UCI winners with a big prize.

Altogether, we will host 8 ranbats this season (6 for a certain game that is still to be determined). Games featured this ranbat season include:

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition 2012
King of Fighters XIII

Tournament will follow the Double Elimination format and utilize a typical standard rule set, which will be mentioned in detail within each ranbat event created on Facebook/SRK.

Ranbat points will be distributed as follows:

1st - 8 pts
2nd - 6 pts
3rd - 4 pts
4th - 3 pts
5th - 2 pts
7th - 1 pt

So what are the points for? FG@UCI wants to give back to our members whome have helped us get to where we are today: one of Southern California’s hotspots for competitive fighting game gatherings. And we wanted it to be something big.

UMvC3 season prize: Paid trip to CEO
AE2012 season prize: Paid trip to CEO
KOFXIII season prize: TBD

We are still working to determine the prize for KOF and in the process of finalizing the prize for UMvC3 and AE2012, but wanted to announce it now so that people can prepare themselves for the ranbat season. It will be a paid round trip to CEO. The winner will still have to pay for lodging. We are still working on tournament entry being waived to the winner.

Now, the ranbats will be open to any and all players; HOWEVER, there will be stipulations to receiving the season prize.

  1. Sponsored players will not qualify for the season prize. The point of this ranbat is to help our growing members with a chance to get out there and to give to our community, not others. We feel that there are a lot of players in our group that have the talent, dedication, and possibly the experience to compete at large events such as CEO, but not the means to travel.

  2. Player must be an active supporter/member for at least the past 6 months-to-a-year. Again, we are here to give back to the people who supported us.

  3. If the winner of the ranbat season is unable to attend CEO, then the next available player based on overall points will receive the season prize.

  4. In the off chance that someone happens to win 1st in both AE and Marvel, a decision made by FG@UCI council will take place to determine the 2nd person that gets to go.

we hope this is a decent enough prize, coming from a very humble group such as ourselves. We will update the post with rankings throughout the season and add details as I get them.

Season Schedule

Ranbat 1 - February 23rd
Ranbat 2 - March 9th
Ranbat 3 - March 23rd
Ranbat 4 - April 6th
Ranbat 5 - April 20th
Ranbat 6 - May 4th
Ranbat 7 - May 18th
Ranbat 8 - June 1st

Update

In case some of you did not read or receive our event, we’re making this separate post to raise awareness for the possibility of including a 4th game to our ranbat.

You may have noticed there are only 3 games featured this ranbat season (SF4, UMvC3, and KOF). Where’s the 4th game, you may be wondering? We have decided that the 4th game needs to earn its spot. Whether it be SFxT, P4A or even Melee, we need to see players that want these games here.

So during the first and second ranbat (Feb. 23rd and March 9th), we are going to do side tournaments for ANY FIGHTING GAME that you guys wish to be featured in our upcoming ranbat season.

The stipulation is that you must bring the set-up for your game of interest!

For example, if you wish for Melee to be the 4th ranbat game featured this season, then you must bring a Melee setup and help galvanize Melee players to come. This applies to all games, whether it’s MK9, Skullgirls, SCV, Shaq Fu, or what have you. Based on turnout from the first and second ranbat, whatever game wins (overall attendance) will be picked up for the remainder of the ranbat season, and we’ll determine a season prize for it as well.

So there you have it. As much as we’d like to accommodate all games and players (we really do), we’re unfortunately limited on resources (both time and equipment). You can’t spell out FGC without the community, however. So please do your part in campaigning your game of interest and we’ll do what we can.

If you are interested, then please post here and let us know what game/setup you will be bringing. This will help us allocate room for your game at the event.
