Universal Overhead vs. Forward s.HK

Ibuki has a LOT of attacks. She is such a technical character, and has so many Specials. If that wasn’t enough, as it looks where I’m standing, Ibuki has two universal overheads. One being the obvious (MP+MK), the other being Forward s.HK.

I’m curious as to when I should use one over the other. Both seem to get the job done, both appear to move at the same speed, but the only difference I can see is that her UO (being her j.LP) has a shorter reach than her Forward s.HK.

Should I be favoring one over the other? Or is there a method to this madness.

i thought ibuki’s overhead was forward s.MK?

i just found this out for myself yesterday… ok, so she’s got 3 UOs… WHY??

I always thought forward s.HK could be blocked crouching.

Towards MK (a command normal) is an overhead, Towards HK is not an overhead so it can be blocked while crouching.

Most of the cast have at least one other overhead besides Universal Overhead.

Some Examples:
Akuma: F+MP
Hugo: FP, cr. HK (it has overhead properties through at least some of the move), and… MK?
Dudley: F+HK
Ken: b+mk. f+hk and last two hits of mk (while held) are overheads also, but not practical.

Basically, it’s just more tools to work with, just try to mix it up and to not be too predictable. Also, Towards HK is a decent poke as long as it’s not parried or whiffs (it can whiff under some crouching opponents.)

Yea, I was thinking “What version of the game am I playing?”.

Lol shows how much I know. Thought a UO was just a character taking a leap. Thanks y’all.

I personally seem to love using f. mk at a reasonable distance to get in and combo on the enemy. (Works wonders on chun, if you’re not too close.) and mp+mk when you’re really close and just need to get that grab, while keeping pressure on them.
