so I read the first few pages of this here wonderful thread and I still havent seen a great confirmation on whethers to block LOW or HIGH if you are standing right next to Blanka when he starts this bad boy up. Last night I was playing my buddy and was standing right next to him on start up - I blocked low and ate the full Ultra. I’ve stood next to him and blocked HIGH and ate the full Ultra. I really really hate his Ultra - it’s the only way he can beat me.
You block low first then immediately block high before he falls on you. Depending on your character, you might be able to hit him out of the ultra after you block the low hit, before he falls. For example rog can just low fierce this ultra etc. Record a dummy doing it in training mode and figure it out.
quick question, ive been trying to do a crossup w/ the ultra and it never crosses the guy up… when someones down i do hop > ultra and my char is basically right ontop of the other char and still doesn’t cross em.
any suggestions?
I can never get Blanka’s ultra to do it’s full work I usually get one lousy hit out of it ticks me off any tips?
turn of turbo fire and then hold down the 3 punch buttons and release as your opponent falls
great advice mullah!
now i can finally do it the right way.
::turns turboz off::
I hate how Blanka’s ultra gets beat by a shoryuken or an up ball (I’m ok with the up ball one).
was that you with the blue sweater playing at ai today?
Maybe he meant like he didnt know you could do that with the ultra as well?
Nope, but I’ll be there on Sunday. Don’t know how I’ll distinguish myself, but I’ll be at registration. See you there, BMX
Every Blanka that I run into online (which is a hell of a lot lately)
throws out desperation ultras from like half screen as soon as their ultra bar is completely full,
or at least by the time they only have 1/4 hp left,
& there have been occasions where I was positive I was blocking it correctly and I still end up eating it for like 30-40% of my HP.
People must fall for this a lot for it to be something that almost every Blanka user does.
For the sole fact that it seems so unpredictable,
I’m thinking about testing other moves against it that might beat it out.
I’ve seen a lot of people complain about getting beaten out of it by a lot of specials,
maybe all armor-breaking moves can beat it out in that first phase when the ball hops?
just block. and punish their dumbass!
Unless your grammar is terrible, what you are trying to say here is that you cannot block a point blank ultra on reaction, you have to be blocking low before the ultra ‘cut-scene’ or it will hit.
This is false.
You can have your stick neutral, not attacking, see the ultra start up, and block low to avoid getting hit by the hit-stun effect. I don’t know what test you ran to arrive at your conclusion, but you’re wrong.
yes, because you don’t look stupid correcting people’s posts made shortly after the games arcade release last year.
You have to block Low-High-Low. Low-High only works if the Ultra hits you in some way before it lands on the ground again. I’ve seen a TON of people not block low from half-screen ultras and then wonder why they get hit. Practicing the good habit of blocking Low-High-Low even if it makes no difference in that situation will in the future make it so you never get screwed by the one Ultra that could.
Another note: EX Tiger Uppercut/EX Shoryuken if executed when the BlankUltra reaches the peak of it’s jump will beat it out. Even a regular uppercut/shoryuken will trade with the Ultra and you’ll take only 1 hit where as Blanka will also take damage and lose his 600 damage.
so do we all agree now that blanka ultra outside of punishing whiffed moves has now been rendered useless because at high level everyone knows how to block it?
such a good thread
Nah dude, linking it is the way to go.
I think the reason that the ultra is affective against sweeps and not in air kicks is because the “Shocking” animation which i call a stun, isnt affective. Remember it isn’t an anti air unlike Blankas super. With that being said, as long as your far enough away from it, you can recover and block. Now i just this around and im not sure if its true, but supposedly if you block low before the ultra you wont get stunned.
