Geez. I saw the title of the thread and before I opened it I KNEW that MoM was going to be on there. I randomly load that game up a few times a year and love how I STILL love that game Between picking trolls for the regen and creating your own artifacts…
lol War Trolls are broken. 2 movement + regen = dead non-range 1 movement troop
Yeah, I was thinking that I should prioritize getting all my important unit ‘factories’ done quickly, since every week that goes by increases the max. units you can make, I think. That and getting the statue done early to maximize profit from that. I’ll try and go about it a little differently this time.
What are the most useful spells? I was thinking Cure would be good, but since it’s only healing one unit at at time, when you have huge stacks, it seems kind of pointless. Magic Arrow wasn’t doing a shit ton for me either. I guess just buffs seem the best, for now.
The castle improvements seem pretty important. I got raped so hard when my castle was invaded. I had some Iron Golem groups but they didn’t seem to do much. I guess having the extra ramparts and moat make a difference.
Syndicate looks great, but I think I had some problem with it, that I can’t remember. Like not getting it to run right or something. I started playing Baldur’s Gate II recently, and that’s super amazing too, if time consuming.
Ah ha! Well, since you’re looking to play some obscure/ underrated pc games, check out:
Lemmings
MYST
Mech Warrior
TIE Fighter
(I know, I’m a fucking riot ;).)
Yep this man knows what he’s talking about. PS:T was the first of its kind and the sad thing is, probably the last, too.
Machines: Wired for War by Acclaim. Not the best RTS out there at the time but I enjoyed it. Just really liked the actual units. And it was one of the first (or was the first, not sure) RTS game that allowed you to go into first person mode in one of the units.
HoM&M III was the best one. I played #4 for a bit but it reeeeeally slowed down my computer. I found out later that it was due to a glitch that caused memory leaks or something. I never bothered to patch it because I had already moved onto another game by that time. I never played HoM&M 5 but I’ll give #6 a shot if the reviews are decent.
I played the hell out of the HoM&M 3 demo. I memorized the map and could guess where the ultimate artifact was based on like 1 obelisk puzzle piece. :looney:
GTA1 was very underrated at its time, no one would have said it would turn into one of the most famous game series nowadays
I used to play X-Com: Apocalypse for hours and hours during summers.
Master of Orion I and Master of Orion II used to eat up a lot of my time too.
Making a dwell (choose between pen or factory) and buying a hero on day one allows you to get an early army by giving all the stuff to one guy (remember that you can leave the other guy with only 1 halfling or 1 boar with the Caps key) and do minor fights for the first week while you build the statue, the well, the magic guild and the rest of dwellings up to the ivory tower.
For spells, in Level 1 Haste and Slow are pretty good to make engagements happen sooner or later to your convenience (buying time for your shooters, or your units getting to block shooters) by increasing/decreasing movement and making units move sooner or later on each turn. Bless and Curse are very strong, and are best used on units with wide damage range. Cure and Dispel Magic are used to uh? dispel magic; the cure HP restoration is not too important. Remember that Slow and Haste override each other, as do Bless and Curse. Magic Arrow may be useful when there is some shooter stack you are not able to block.
In Level 2, the boss is Blind, as it makes a stack completely unable. Lightning and Cold Ray may be pretty effective, with 25x and 20x your Spell Power in damage.
Then come a variety of spells with mass stuff: Mass Haste, Mass Slow, Mass Curse and Mass Bless are all good, and so are Chain Lighting and Meteor Shower. And there?s the broken stuff, Town Gate, Dimension Door and the combo of Black Dragons + Armageddon.
Yeah, the moat is a must, and the extra towers are generally effective. They own Knight and Barbarian armies, as they have no flyers.
Remember to attack enemy archers and protect you own. Unlike in H3, ranged combat goes all or nothing. Flyers have unlimited movement, and archers have no distance penalty.
I haven’t played many RPGs, but BGII was the only where I actually cared about what to do.
