How are you going to say what the gameplay feels like and you haven’t even played it yet?
Female…? I didn’t look very hard for breasts, but looked like a guy to me.
To be fair to some detractors, the main promotional poster prominently features two underage-looking characters and laughably nonsensical Engrish. Even if “anime” is misused as an insult due to ignorance of the term, the viewpoint has some justification. The truth is, it doesn’t help that Japan is a culture whose media is filled with bizarre (at least to Western eyes) and perverted fetishes. BlazBlue, perhaps the most popular “anime” fighter, is a smorgasbord of weeaboo stereotypes.
No matter what anyone says, whether it be chicks or gaming, looks matter. This is SRK, supposedly the most “hardcore” of FGC, yet people complain about Turtlefighter 4 then avoid a more offense-oriented game like Arcana Heart (homing button FTW) because “LOL lolis”. At the end of the day, people will play the games that appeal to them, whether it be gameplay or visual design, and all our little donjon cheering section can do is spread the love and maybe convert or at least edify a few naysayers out of the Capcom legion.
Game looks promising. I’m digging the whole “Denizens of the night” feel, nice to see someone picking a theme as opposed to “smorgasbord of anime figureheads we know someone will like.” One or 2 of the good ones are fine but the indie market seems saturated with it. How an you have 3 different games, about three different things and they all have goddamn maids. lol
And while im here: Oy, Capcom. If you done want to do DS anymore, Ill gladly take it from someone else. I hope this and skullgirls makes a splash. Shame we wont get to play UNiS till next year or so.
Spoken for truth.
Most of the backwash is hate, but we must at least acknowledge that there is a bit of basis for some of the wariness.
…Should we really give a shit either way, though?
I mean, I don’t know about any body else, but I do still remember an era where some people thought that the likes of Darkstalkers, JJBA and KOF (or rather, SNK in general) was “too out there” or whatever. And then after that, it was GG, Melty and whatever else that people wanted to hate on next by the dawn of the new millennium.
The bottomline is that this really should be nothing new. Especially for those among us who have been a part of the FG scene for a decent amount of time. In the end, the game will do more to speak for itself, and it will draw a following that way, if it’s good. And those who continue to hate, that’s their choice.
Pretty much this.
I remember when Guilty Gear was the lulz anime hate on srk. But now those same people are like “GG was awesome compared to the games out now” I won’t point names, but yeah.
The games will speak for themselves and haters will hate. That’s the way internet works.
Too True. As with anything… it’s part of the cycle.
So how do you think Waldstein will play? I know it’s VERY EARLY to talk about it what with zero info ATM, but seeing how he has long arms and looks to be the heavy/power type character, do you think he’ll be a very good zoning character?
Going along with the whole “Last Blade+Melty” vibe I’ve been getting from what we’ve seen thus far, I wouldn’t be surprised if Waldstein ends up playing some what similar to how Shigen played in LB. In other words, Shigen ended up being more of a striker that relied on the range and power that his normals and specials provided, rather than being a “pure” grappler on speed.
Of course, this is still very early. 7 months until the next thing closest to a “loke test”, any one?
**
I never said anyone should.** I certainly don’t. I’m not an internet tough guy, just trying to see where others are coming from. Seethe your fangs. No ones coming at you. Don’t misrepresent me.
The way you wrote that implies that pubescent girls in skimpy outfits, oft flashing their panties while fighting, isn’t disturbing in slightest bit. I understand where people are coming from when they shun Arcana Hearts. I hope this game doesn’t get tagged with that image. I want it to achieve Melty status, at least.
Most of the characters in Arcana Heart are fully clothed and don’t look like lolis at all.
They don’t really have skimpy clothing but there are a number of lolis and all characters appear to be listed as 16 or less years old or “unknown” age.
And it is undeniable that the whole basis for the character design in AH was to pander to different fanservice fetishes.
That doesn’t mean the game is bad, of course. But you can’t hide the gigantic fanservice aspect of AH.
And Eko really creeps me out.
There are panty shots in Arcana Heart? How’d I miss that?
Yeah it’s fan-service as hell.
I don’t really read any of the story stuff, they just (mostly) don’t look like lolis.
But really, it’s not like SF doesn’t have a schoolgirl flashing her panties every time she does anything and an exceptionally young-looking military officer in the thongiest thong of all time.
If we are aging characters appropriately, Sakura is like 40 years old is SF4. And Cammy is old enough to do as she pleases, which includes wearing completely nonsensical skintight battle outfits. On the other hand, AH3 has a ten year-old, in a bathing suit, floating in a liquid blob. Oh, I almost forgot to mention the eerie, unhuman, level of physical development many of the girls have experienced.
And, yes, I am kinda hopped up on troll pills atm.
i didnt know 2 out of 23 characters was “many” especially when one doesnt look too young for the chest
point is people who actually care about hardcore fighting games and their incredible depth easily look past stuff like this and everyone else is a pussy
yeah I like just can’t play a character who isn’t of legal age
because playing them is akin to sexing them
right?
“Young looking character but actually their age is xxxx years”
I think I’ve seen this before.
if liking robotic three year olds who look like pornstars is wrong i dont want to be right
