That’s why everyone should play player matches, find one person and you can play em forever.
Game really needs a lobby system like GGPO, everyone joins the same room, challenge whoever the hell you want whenever you want instead of this searching malarky. (I guess this wouldn’t work too well on console though, what with having to navigate with a stick/d-pad, they could slim it down with a room per country/region or something)
Does anyone remember what the fix is for getting randomly reset back to the first round and losing GP in Championship Mode?
There’s a openDNS fix in the PSN forum, it didn’t completely fix it for me, but did significantly reduce how often it happens.
i think the dumbest part about the online system is how you can’t ‘avoid a player’ on xbox live until AFTER you’ve played them.
this is really annoying when i will see a name in the quickmatch i try to connect to, but it says ‘unable to play’ when i click them. so ok i refresh the search.
then i see their name again, and 2 otehr names, so i click on a new name. same thing - ‘unable to play’. so i refresh again.
then this time i see those same 2 names and someone from japan with a 1 bar connection. so i refresh.
same thing AGAIN.
then i’ll finally find a match or win a championship, then start the search over again.
and i’ll see those 2 guys AGAIN!
like wtf … whoever wrote this search engine is not the brighest crayon in the box.
the worst though is when i’ve seen the same name in the list twice, and the 3rd person will be a person i can’t connect to also. so it’ll have a quickmatch result list of 3 people i cant even play. then i click refresh and it shows the same exact list again…
I think you see the same players again because they have opened a lobby and someone has entered it and hit ready, but the host has not hit ready. I dont think it removes players from the list until the host has hit ready. So sometimes you get these guys who are hosting but not paying attention and their lobby is full but because they have not hit ready you get all these unable to play errors.
I still don’t get why Quick Match brings up japanese/korean results.
sorry, but quick match should just automatically pick people from my own country, rather than randomly select 3 people from around the world. Dunno about the rest of you, but I think I have only seen 5 people TOTAL from other countries that have connections I would even consider to be decent.
I think so too.
It’s weird because sometimes you get a more detailed “Unable to Play - Game is full” message and sometimes you just get generic “Unable to Play.”
I’ve also noticed that sometimes when I host a game after not being able to get into any games (seemingly because others are joining them so quickly), I sometimes have an issue where nobody joins my game for like 10 minutes. If I recreate the room, they join in seconds. Seems odd.
The last thing I’ll mention is a random shot in the dark guess I have about the “unable to play” message. If the Host of a game finishes a game and is on the medals screen but never pushes a button that would actually finalize the game and take you back to the lobby screen, while the other player leaves, does this game show up in the list as a joinable game? Perhaps this is where the Unable to join games come from?
Couldn’t have put it better.
I think those people who you get “unable to play” are usually those who have not configured their gateways/routers/modems/firewalls etc properly, so something as trivial as a ping gets through (so they show up in the search results), but something which requires more permissions like hosting a game (acting as a server) will get denied and that’s why you get the unable to play message.
Its exactly why those same people can connect to you when you host the game, your setup is configured properly, your exe is now the ‘server’ and will have all the relevant permissions needed to play.
Microsoft needs buy the Halo matchmaking system and provide it as a default. Bungie really has this online stuff down. The matchmaking, the replays, nothing to complain about. Capcom on the other hand…
I get the unable to participate in this session when I try to play with a friend in private player match.
you’re on the right track, basically if you make a lobby, you’ll be connected to anybody who’s searching. However i do make arcade request and i get paired up with people and end up on the 2p side, which means that either they made a lobby or they also had arcade request on.
so you’re right azrael, just making an arcade request is your best bet, and you can chill out and do somehting else in the meantime
Seriously they just need to fix the “UNABLE TO PLAY” shit…
I find matches fastest when I play arcade and accept challengers…searching seems very stupid…It was fine before they implement the championship edition…I would see floods of people when i do search but now…i only see 1 or 2…and most often get the “UNABLE TO PLAY” !!!
I just go and make my own room and some joins fairly fast. Now I kick if you have one red bar…
Fight Request really is the only way to go.
This is my theory:
It’s actually fight request that’s messing things up. Why? When you try to join a room, and you get the “Unable to Play” message, is that person in fight request or in a lobby? I guarantee that in 9 out of 10 instances, this person whom you can’t join is in fight request. I have over 2500 online matches and I can’t remember, aside from a few, scant isolated cases where I got the “Unable to play” message when trying to join a room where the player hosting simply created a lobby. Either I join instantaneously, or I get the ‘Room is full’ message. If you don’t believe me, try it yourself: count how many “Unable to play” (not the “Room is full”) messages you get from lobbies, and how many you get when trying to connect to people who are in fight req.
Now, some people claim that the “Unable to play” message is due to an issue with either firewalls or NATs not being properly configured. That may well be the case. But I doubt it. And the reason is that if the people I’m unable to connect to when they are in fight request mode set up a lobby, I can connect to them instantly. And this is probably because of the way Fight Req. works: constantly searching for matches and acting as a host and the number of requests it can handle are probably very limited. And there are several moments during fight request arcade mode in which other players can’t challenge the fight req player: transitions, etc. Or maybe the reason is that search results take so long that by the time they are in, the player in fight request mode is no longer hosting but actively searching to join a host (since fight req. seems to alternate) and you only get the information when it’s no longer useful. Who knows.
In my opinion, Fight Req. is idiotic (so in order to fight other people I have to play the computer? Huh?) and it seems to be the culprit for the difficulties people face when trying to connect to other players.
At any rate, and since I vehemently refuse to play arcade mode to fight online matches, I usually just host matches. Seems the fastest way of getting fights online, specially in championship mode.
Now, even if we took fight request out of the equation, it still takes too long to find matches, because most lobbies seem to be full even before the game comes back with the results for the search. This game takes an inordinate amount of time to come back with what is basically a list of pings and as a result, by the time the results are in, they are pretty much irrelevant. HDR does it almost instantaneously; why can’t this game?
Obviously because SF4 is very hardware intensive and three-dee.
Same reason they can’t use decent netcode.
Duh.
A lot of people’s problems with “the internet” is their fault, even without them knowing it. Especially when they complain that it “always” happens to them, there’s obviously something wrong with your connection/ISP.
I also get this. I can join private sessions but I can’t invite… that’s where it comes up for me… “ugh” sf4 and hd remix online… what a joke
