If that’s the best retort you can come up with, I don’t even need to waste my time…
I respect a lot of women… You wouldn’t know any of them though, because they don’t get constant media attention for pretending to be “victims” of non-existent problems, and just get shit done.
Anyway, to make some things clear. Maybe there were some cases where women did something wrong and then claimed they were harassed when they were just being criticized. This itself, does not invalidate the issues women face in today’s society. A few bad apples does not change this fact.
I don’t know why men are treating this like some kind of gender war. Most feminists push for women’s rights to be roughly on par. They aren’t pushing in order to topple men. Get rid of that ego and see things for the way they are.
This is a group of women going to the UN to demand the internet censor not bullies, not violent and hateful speech, but being told to fuck off, or having people disagree with them. No matter what country it originates in. Not even asking for men to be included in this ‘law’. So yeah, you’d do what again? Ban facebook because somebody told somebody else to fuck off on facebook?
This over-reliance on government interference is going to be the downfall of society. Can someone teach anyone personal responsibility? Every goddamn idiot out there trying to start a new civil rights movement so they can be seen as important in history.
Hey dumbasses, laws don’t do shit to change how people feel about you.
Considering that only about 50% of the world even has internet access, there are more pressing problems the U.N. should be addressing in order to protect women. For instance, human trafficking, which is involves hundreds of thousand of women a year, is still a big issue worldwide. The industry is worth billions and exploits women and children sexually. The U.N. should also focus on the atrocious behavior of some of its members when it comes to women’s rights.
Those are worthwhile endeavors. Harassment of women online is not really worth the resources when it looks to only affect the most privileged of women.
I’m not particularly in favor of what the link is referring to - this UN censorship, as it seems impossible to enforce. I was just talking about how the term feminism has unusually bad connotation associated with it because of feminist extremists (and keep in mind, extremists exist in practically every activist group).
(I can’t and won’t speak for Preppy, but personally I don’t have a problem with marking people as trolls if I absolutely have to, in part because some of you are so bad at ignoring them or being baited by them. Same with people flagging posts for things other than actual bots.)
Anyway, I doubt that this will go anywhere, but it’s still annoying that it’s at least taking away time from other, legitimate issues that could be discussed at the U.N. This even if the U.N. has largely always been a worthless piece of shit rarely gets anything actual useful done. So really, wasting time aside, all this does is show that both groups involved are even worthless than they had already shown themselves to be. Nothing else to really say about this other than a sarcastic “well, that’s surprising”.
I still personally don’t even know what “GamerGate” was about and still don’t really care, especially when it’s been pretty proven that these type of people only get stronger and get more exposure from and proportional to the level of vitriol thrown towards them, warranted or not.
So “you should have listened” just ends up a nice, masturbatory little pat on the back to give yourself unless you have an actual plan to solve the damn issue in question, i.e. discredit these people before they do any actual damage (or just implode themselves). Continuing to give attention whores the attention they desire isn’t exactly a winning strategy.
The “you should have listened” part refers to the fact that NO ONE should be taking these people seriously, nor giving them the time of day…
A light skimming of the “GamerGate” controversy would have told you and anyone else that is surprised at this stupid UN shit that in the first ten minutes of research…
GamerGate died the second the PR battles happened. It’s as big of a joke as the UN.
The only reason it holds relevance to me is that Canadian politicians actually name drop it interviews (Liberal) or even welcome people like Anita. (NDP)
Or have SJW policies.
