Capcom is not going to make Sentinel like MVC2 Sent. The whole reason they made him like he was was because they knew how cheap MVC2 Sent was. Scrubs cried their eyes out about MVC3 Sent (who was just a typical big body character you have to actually block against) so there’s no way they’re even going to touch giving him MVC2 Sent neutral.
I certainly don’t expect Sentinel to be buffed to MvC2 status, but I think they should deffinately make some changes that lead in that direction. Right now all Sentinel really does is sit back, spit lasers, fire bombs, try and abuse his armour, catch a sly j.M into a combo, harddrive… Sentinel is a really good assist character but when it comes down to it he really isn’t all that good of a point character, at least no where near as good as he should be.
Sentinel needs a little bit of his old flavour back, not so much that it makes him over powering but just enough so that he can actually apply some sort of pressure game. Increasing the hit box on j.L down and to the front would allow him to actually control people on the ground from the air and give him more ways to apply pressure from a slightly further distance. Also slightly increasing his movement would make him less of a target when being cornered and allow him to position him self for better use of his normals in block strings and combos. This would allow him to have arial pressure akin to MvC2 without actually making him too broken; giving him less overal damage would make it so that while he now has better movement and a better j.L, he doesn’t get quite as much damage for the increased ability to find hits.
I think that sounds pretty fair, I think it would give Sentinel what he needs to be a top tier without actually making him too strong. He would still have low health, he’d still have a large hurtbox, you would just have to be a bit more careful when you’re moving into that mid screen range. It would deffinately make him a more fun character to play and ultimately I think that’s what matters.
There’s nothing really wrong with TACs, the mechanic isn’t going to go away, perhaps its hit stun properties might be adjusted but I doubt they’d take away the mechanic or make it any less of what it already is. That’s why I suggest for up TAC taking red life because currently it does nothing, where as the other two gain or take meter. It gives people more of a reason to use an up TAC and gives people more of a reason to fear and counter them. If we nerfed the TACs hitstun properties I think TACs would become a very bland mechanic and not something used as often as it is now. In one way that’s a good thing, but I think by making such dramatic changes like removing infinites people need more of a reason to use the mechanic.
I didn’t suggest nerfs because honestly I don’t think it needs nerfed. It has already become an integral part of the metagame and is a part of what makes this game so balanced right now. I know a lot of people would argue that’s bad design, but I really don’t mind things like this fixing some of the games problems.
I’m not arguing for the mechanic to go away, I’m saying that there’s no reason to make it stronger. In most cases TACs lead to death and meter, if a patch happens the meter gain/meter steal bonuses should just go away. There’s not much else you can do with them, so just make the unneeded bonuses go away. It wouldn’t affect the TAC game at all.
If they took away the bonuses and left everything else about TACs as they are that’s a compromise I could live with. To be able to keep infinites for meter building is something I’d rather wasn’t removed as it gives a lot of characters more relevance and allows people to acomlish goals without making meter gain or damage ridiculous like it was in vanilla.
Though I’m not sure how that would effect mind games, or characters such as Phoenix who are always on the threat for meter. On one hand it’s useful for Phoenix to be able to gain meter on the off chance of a down exchange, on the other hand it’s useful for Phoenix to not be constantly worried about people stealing meter from a side exchange as well. As it is right now players are pretty much guaranteed free down exchange against Phoenix teams, whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing is something that probably should be considered.
capcom has the ability to make a new version of the game but marvel wants some money up front and capcom does not want to do that. it has nothing to do with contracts and licensing. its money
if the community was smart they would be hounding combofiend and haunts for info and start a kickstarter to cover the cost because at this rate the game will stale in less than 2 years
I couldn’t help but notice how much of my attention this caught. Considering how well Skullgirls was able to pull it out, I wonder if it would be a feasible idea in this game’s case…
I have my doubts that would work. Capcom receiving charity for a game update is not a good look for them. They’re a multi-million dollar game company, after all.
This game is clearly never getting updated, but Capcom hasn’t been doing that well financially lately and I wouldn’t put it past them to eventually kickstarter their IPs when DLC sales stop giving them revenue.
